Today’s news has brought us the names and/or summaries for the first four episodes of season 3. They are:

1. Wait for It (airing 9/24) - Robin shows up with a date and this motivates Ted to ‘get back out there’. We also learn something major about ‘the Mother’.
2. We’re Not From Here (airing 10/1) - Ted and Barney set up a ploy to pick up women. Robin is still dating Argentinean Adonis.
3. Little Boys (airing 10/8) - Coming soon.
4. The Third Wheel (airing 10/15) - Ted’s new attitude attracts women in the present and one from his past.
5. How I Met Everyone Else (airing 10/22) - We learn how Ted first met his new fling as well as other first meetings.

What are we going to learn about the mother? Who is the ‘Argentinean Adonis’? We already know who the “one from his past” will be. Let the speculation begin!

Imagine that after getting viciously drunk on Red Dragon shots, having his jacket set on fire, learning the true definition of “karaoke” and waking up next to a sullied and unconscious Danica McKellar in The Pineapple Incident Ted didn’t bungle the whole thing up, Trudy didn’t take off out the fire escape, and that we, and Ted, actually saw her again. As all the ads are showing, Mandy Moore will appear in the season premiere of How I Met Your Mother.

Her character sounds interesting. Show creator Carter Bays described her appearance as:

“Ted is freshly single and on the rebound, and on his first night out, he meets Amy, the ultimate bad decision,” explains Bays. “She’s the tattooed, vodka-swilling trainwreck that Mandy Moore thankfully never turned into. We can’t wait to see what Mandy does with it.”

I have liked Mandy Moore in both her guest appearance on Scrubs and her role on Entourage playing herself in Season 2. I usually get nervous that a guest star will overshadow the normal episode dynamic and the episode will suffer but HIMYM has gotten it right 2/3 of the time I think. Specifically I’m referring to the successful Wayne Brady episode (Single Stamina) and the Jane Seymour appearance in Aldrin Justice. I, personally, felt that Columns was one of the show’s weakest episodes, which had Bryan Cranston as Ted’s boss. This episode spent way too much time on their story and the addition of his new character wasn’t enough to support the plot.

So how will Mandy Moore do?

According to my calculations, that means that the episode airing on 11/19 will feature a slap. That’ll be a good six or seven episodes into the season, which is a good long wait since Stuff.

What context will the slap be in? Random? In response to something Barney says to Marshall? To Lily?

This is a little old but that doesn’t make it any less awesome.

For those who aren’t familiar with the piece, this is a song from Les Miserables. The two intended performers of the song are the escaped prisoner Jean val Jean and his pursuing officer Javert. Val Jean has just admitted his guilt but is pleading to not be taken to jail as he has just promised a woman that he will watch after her child. Javert doesn’t trust him and a lyrical scuffle ensues.
