Bachelor Party Discussion

Last night we saw a repeat of Bachelor Party from last season. I like this episode, although I prefer the B story (Robin’s inappropriate wedding shower present) to the A plot (Barney messing up Marshall’s bachelor party). That long description from Lily’s grandmother who thought Lily was about to open an antique sewing machine when in fact she was opening…something else was an inspired piece of writing.

Lastly, this episode was important because it showed us what made Lily finally come home. Barney flying out there with a ticket for her was a rare compassionate moment for him. He’s always shown a need for Marshall and Lily’s relationship to succeed (the ying to his bachelor yang it would seem) and it finally explained why Barney was so mean to Marshall during The Scorpion and the Toad.

Thoughts?

PS. Again, sorry for the limited posts. I’ve got a list of blog drafts a mile long and once I get situated you guys are in for some great content. Look forward to polls about returning guest stars, recaps from old episodes, legacy season vs. season talks, and maybe even a contest where we give away a DVD. Hang in there folks, it’s going to be a legendary new year.

How I Met Your Mother Season 2 DVD Easter Egg

Via DVD review:

On 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s release of ‘How I Met Your Mother: Season 2′ the studio has also included a hidden feature for you to discover.
Insert the first disc of the DVD set and from the Main Menu go to the ‘Special Features’ section. Now highlight the ‘On’ menu entry for the first Commentary Track and then press the ‘Left’ arrow key on your remote control. Now press the ‘Up’ arrow key and an icon will be highlighted on the screen. Now press the ‘Enter’ key and you will get to see a sketch of one of Hammond Druthers’ designs in the show.

I haven’t confirmed this yet, but it sounds awesome. Anyone have the DVD? Can you confirm?    Update: Reader RFRY (of milesdavisforpresident.net) sent in a screen shot. It’s the new hero image above. Pretty legendary.

“Yeah you did.”
“Had to.”

Season 3 Episode 11: The Platinum Rule Discussion

This week’s recap was written by Have You Met Ted long-time fan Jason “The Mix”. Jason offered to take over this week since I’m in such a flux with the move. I’m super excited to share his thoughts with you. As Broda would say, the Force is strong with this one. Without further adieu I present Jason’s recap:

With this episode was the last new one we’ll see for a fair amount of time, however, if were we’re going to go out on any episode, I’m glad it was this one. It left us with a sense of mystery, and a cliffhanger of sorts with more than one person in Ted and Barney.

This was, as older Ted put it, the story of making decisions that we aren’t prepared to live with, “and the consequences that follow”. This episode in particular is one I found to be fairly iconically Ted, in that there are several episodes where the focus is upon Ted making a bad decision, or simply unwise, even though he knew before hand it was a bad decision to be making. In fact, that’s generally been the overlaying theme of the entire season so far. Old Ted at the beginning of the season puts it as going through what he needed to go through before he meets the mother. In the end, this episode is sort of a more hilarious stepbrother to “Nothing Good Happens After 2 AM”.

Thomas and Bays Speak: Strike Woes, 11th Grade Teachers, and a Maternal Admission

letter-from-the-editors-ted-and-robin-on-couch.jpg

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, creators of How I Met Your Mother (the show is semi-autobiographical for them) have posted a letter to fans on the HIMYM MySpace page. It looks like The Platinum Rule will be the last new episode until the TV Writers Strike is sorted out. It’s all very sad. Read their letter below:

The Platinum Rule: Wait for it…

platinum-rule-wait-for-it.jpg

Sorry guys, I just moved to NYC and started a new job this week so I’m all out of whack for HIMYM. I don’t have time for a proper recap of last night’s episode yet. We can discuss it here and hopefully you won’t have to wait too much longer for a full wrap-up.

A couple things that stood out as good:

  • I loved all the crazy time shifting. It’s nice when an episode covers just 30 minutes of the characters time as well as ours and is filled in with flashbacks.
  • Lily’s hair was crazy. I like that they play around with the characters like that. There’s so much coverage about Hannigan’s hairstyles each season, then they throw it in as a gag
  • Barney was in near-overacting stage. In a good way.
  • That door-slam-slide was awesome. I boo-booped Tivo back over and over to watch it again
  • Did anyone notice that dramatic turn as Barney and Robin suddenly were very close?
  • Why does Robin only find these wussy guys?
  • It was good to see more of Wendy the Waitress

Worth noting: At the end of the episode future-Ted tells his kids (and us in narration) that this is “the end of [his doctor] Stella’s story, at least for now.” Foreshadowing?

Sorry for the short post. Hopefully I’ll be back to speed next week.
