St. Patricks Day: Kissing! Violence! Marriage! How I Met Your Mother!

via Watch with Kristin at E! online:
I’m hearing the show returns with a St. Patrick’s Day episode, in which Ted makes out with a married chick and gets popped in the face by a drunk dude. Good times are ahead for him and Barney, no doubt!
Also, props to commenter Jess for scoping me on this news.

Neil Patrick Harris Interviews Ryan Reynolds
Neil Patrick Harris filled in for Regis Philbin on the day Ryan Reynolds was visiting. Friends in real life, the interview had a great give-and-take rhythm. I’m a huge fan of Reynolds, unabashedly so. I saw Definitely, Maybe and it’s actually very good.
Kudos to reader Misha who had some very nice things to say about the site, the show, and recommended I check out this clip. Thanks Misha!
PS. Who’s that annoying trophy wife sitting to NPH’s left? She reminds me of the woman at the bar who always follows up the funny thing someone says with the most boring statement you’ve ever heard and is met with only silence.
PPS. Reynolds is rumored to have been cast as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I’m all a twitter about the film since it also stars will.i.am, Liev Schreiber, and Taylor Kitsch (Gambit!!) It’s also directed by Gavin Hood (who’s been all artsy up till now making films like Tsotsi.) Hoo-ray!
PPPS. I wish there was a clip with better audio than this. At first, I thought maybe there was just a loud A.C. running in the background but it’s almost rhythmic which makes me think it’s actually some evil German techno beat.

Neil Patrick Harris on Conan O’Brien
He recently appeared on Sesame Street as “The Shoe Fairy”, he attended the Victoria Secret Fashion Show with Jeremy Piven, he loves puppets, and he does a mean Regis Philbin impression.
He seems like a really funny guy. I’d have a beer with him.

How I Met Your Mother: Return Date Announced

Mark your calendars: How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, and The Big-Bang Theory will all return on March 17, 2008. This will make for one great St. Patrick’s day.
Is there a chance the writers will work the holiday into the show? St. Patrick’s Day at McLaren’s has to be—to borrow phrasing from commenter Eric J—legen “why does the supermarket put the eggs and orange juice in the same section as the” dary.
As soon as I find out anything about the episode, I’ll post it up here.

Official: “How I Met Your Mother” Back in Production, 8 More Episodes for Season 3
The Washington Post has the “yes”, “no”, and “maybe” list of shows which will have more episodes this season. What’s on that list? How I Met Your Mother. That’s right, it’s coming back. While I’d love a full season, I’ll take an extra eight. That will make a 19 episode season. Hopefully the strike will help the show get picked up again next year, as I bet the “we didn’t have a chance to finish a whole season” argument will secure us a season four.
Since I have to assume you all watch more than just HIMYM, here is the rest of that list from the Washington Post:
Yes
ABC: Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Samantha Who?, Ugly Betty, Women’s Murder Club
CBS: Big Bang Theory, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, Ghost Whisperer, How I Met Your Mother, Moonlight, NCIS, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Numb3rs, Rules of Engagement
Fox: American Dad, Back to You, Bones, Family Guy, House, King of the Hill, The Simpsons, ‘Til Death.
NBC: Law & Order, Lipstick Jungle, Medium, My Name Is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock
No
ABC: Big Shots, Carpoolers, Cavemen, Dirty Sexy Money, Notes From the Underbelly, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies
CBS: Cane*, Viva Laughlin.
Fox: K-ville, Prison Break, 24
NBC: Bionic Woman, Chuck, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Journeyman, Las Vegas, Life
Maybe
ABC: According to Jim, Boston Legal, Cashmere Mafia, October Road
CBS: Shark, The Unit
Fox: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
NBC: ER
Shows in bold are the ones I’m excited to see returning (or sad to see leaving), in case anyone cares. In the comments, don’t just talk HIMYM, all shows are fair game. What are you guys excited to see come back?
*Personally, I’m actually glad to see Cane canceled since that means that Nestor Carbonell can come back to Lost. Also, It’ll be nice for Scrub’s final season to play out as close as possible to the plan.

Carter Bays: There will be eight more episodes

What a banner day for How I Met Your Mother fans. First, Marshall and Lily’s marriage is celebrated, now we’ve got the closest thing to confirmation yet concerning the strike’s end. Carter Bays, co-creator of the show, had this to say:
”We’re unbelievably stoked to be getting back to work. The chance to finish out the season is a dream come true in pretty much every way: getting our crew back on the payroll, getting our staff off the picket line and back in the writers room and, most of all, actually writing again. And doing eight more episodes will feel really good. And I couldn’t imagine a season-three DVD with just those first 11 episodes on it. Eleven episodes didn’t feel like a season. We’re TV, not HBO.”
That Bays, he’s a funny guy. Although we knew that already. I agree though, we’re all stoked for more episodes. If you look back, it is the final half dozen episodes that really bring it home at the end of every season. What kind of monumental event are we going to see this year?

Mr. and Mrs. Awesome come in Fifth

TV Guide recently ranked the top ten married television couples. Guess who came in at number five? Lily Aldrin and Marshall Ericksen. Not bad after less than a year of marriage. The rest of the ranking was as follows:
- “Friday Night Lights” Tami and Eric Taylor, played by Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler
- “Medium” Allison and Joe Dubois, played by Patricia Arquette and Jake Weber
- “Desperate Housewives” Lynette and Tom Scavo, played by Felicity Huffman and Doug Savant
- “Everybody Hates Chris” Rochelle and Julius, played by Tichina Arnold and Terry Crews
- “How I Met Your Mother” Lily Aldrin and Marshall Eriksen, played by Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel
- “The Unit” Mollly Blane and Sgt. Major Jonas, played by Regina Taylor and Dennis Haysbert
- “Lost” Rose Henderson and Bernard Nadler, played by L. Scott Caldwell and Sam Anderson (editor’s note: my second favorite on the list)
- “Ghost Whisperer” Melinda Gordon and Jim Clancy, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt and David Conrad
- “Family Guy” Lois and Peter Griffin, voiced by Alex Borstein and Seth MacFarlane
- “Scrubs,” Carla Espinosa and Chris Turk, played by Judy Reyes and Donald Faison

Strike Update: Forecast Good for How I Met Your Mother

This is all speculative and, while I’m not a real journalist, I am an optimist so you’re damn sure I’m going to report it as fact. TVFodder’s Day 95 WGA Strike Recap has the prognosis for how likely many shows are to return and how many episodes they will have when and if they do so. It seems that shows like Heroes and 24, that have long story arcs, aren’t looking like they’ll return. The good news, however, is that How I Met Your Mother is listed as one of the shows likely to return with the most new episodes once the strike ends—between seven and nine most likely.
This is great news. I could care less about new episodes of Heroes since it hasn’t been good since the middle of season 1. I’m sad Scrubs is in danger but this is a How I Met Your Mother blog so no crying, only celebrating! Nine new episodes is great news, let’s hope that the strike resolution continues to advance at the currently predicted rate and we can see the rest of this season sooner rather than later.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Red Band Trailer
I haven’t watch this yet but I just found it and wanted to get it up for everyone to see. “Red Band” means the trailer is R rated so if you’re young or easily offended or at work, you’ve been warned. I’ll update once I watch it.
What do we think?
More on the movie here, here, and here.

As the Strike Ends, Carter Bays has a Problem

So, it looks like the strike might be coming to an end. That means we’ll finally get some new episodes. It seems like it’s been forever since The Platinum Rule aired doesn’t it? It does to show co-creator Carter Bays who was recently quoted in EW:
”It’s been a long strike,” [Bays] admits. ”I can barely remember all our characters’ names, much less what we were planning to do with them. Is our show the one with Jim and Pam? If so, we’ll probably have them hook up. Awkward!”
I love this guy. But seriously, it’s been a long time. What do you hope the first new episode of How I Met Your Mother is going to cover? Any other thoughts about the end to the strike? Party like it’s still Fat Tuesday in the comments.
