Season 4 Episode 2: World’s Greatest Burger Discussion
[pictures to come on a Thursday in the future.]
Tonight we saw a moment in Marshall’s life. Much like season one saw Ted having adventures that turned him into the man he was to become, tonight Marshall had one of those maturating experiences. This wasn’t a mission to lick the Liberty Bell or help his car reach 100,000 miles, this was a mission for the World’s Greatest Burger. Continue reading…

Robin’s Dad Has Been Cast - Eric Braeden

TVGuide reports that in an upcoming episode we’ll get to meet Mr. Scherbatsky, whose name is also Robin.
Eric Braeden of The Young and the Restless fame has scored a gig on How I Met Your Mother, playing Robin’s father. His name? Robin Charles Scherbatsky, Sr.
The storyline set-up: As Ted and the gang hide in a restaurant from… er, someone, they each take turns recounting the one person they would most hate to run into. Robin’s pick is her pop, seeing as she has Daddy issues — in that hers always wanted her to be a boy.
I think this sounds like a fantastic episode. How perfectly HIMYM is it that Robin turns out to be named after her dad? The show does a great job saturating character’s backstories with larger-than-life moments, and Robin’s have always been some of my favorite flashbacks. I can’t wait for this.

How I Met Your Mother to Be Shown on Lifetime

Twentieth Television sold off-net sitcom How I Met Your Mother to female-focused cable network Lifetime Television for a once-per-week run starting in fall 2010.
I’m not at all happy about this. First Project Runway, now HIMYM. I respect that Lifetime’s trying to expand their reach past shitty movie-of-the-week but I wish they’d picked up a different show than How I Met Your Mother. It just doesn’t seem like a good fit. Maybe for the Lifetime of the future, but that rebranding is going to take a longer time than between now and when HIMYM stars airing.
Although, I can’t fret too much. Look at shows like Scrubs that, right now, have episodes on three or four different networks. We’ll see I guess. I was holding out for TBS.
What do you guys think?
NOTE: As far as I can tell this only refers to syndication, not first-run content. Sorry that wasn’t clear.
Update: Reader Humberto points out:
“Lifetime forked over a strapping $82.5 million (or about $750,000 an episode multiplied by 110 half hours). That’s the second biggest license fee ever ponied up by a cable network for a sitcom in the first cycle” -Variety
Well done HIMYM!

Stella’s Sister Has Been Recast

EW reports that Danneel Harris is replacing Sarah Paxton in the role of Stella’s bride-to-be-but-wait sister. They switched last minute because they wanted someone a little older for the role. Bays and Thomas love Paxton however and hope to use her in the future.
This new girl looks OK, even if she spells her name stupidly. Is she related to NPH? Maybe they just met on the set of Harold and Kumar. I think she looks a little bit country. If you Google Image Search her there are a lot of sexy pics, if you like that kind of thing.
While on the topic, I’d like to point out the eerie resemblance that Sarah Paxton has to one of the biggest HIMYM fans I know, my friend Cora. Look at this, isn’t it uncanny?

Season 4 Episode 1: Do I Know You?
[pictures to come Thursday]
This was a powerful season opener. We saw a half hour of pure How I Met Your Mother glee, unencumbered with guest stars or lame plot lines. Plus, John D’arc liked it so it must have been good (he’s a tough critic.) When that beautiful harp music came in over the cold open I was so excited for what was to come. This is going to be a long one, so get ready. Continue reading…

Happy Season 4 Premiere Day!

So we’re just hours away from the season 4 premiere of How I Met Your Mother and the excitement is palpable. What will happen? What did Stella say? What will Barney do? Who owns the yellow umbrella? What will Lily’s new hair style be? We’ll find out the answers to those questions and more tonight. After the show, check in here for my thougts, likes and dislikes, and join the discussion. I should have the review posted in a few hours after the episode airs.
In preparation for the premiere there’s been a lot of press surrounding the show lately. Earlier this month the cast auctioned off their jeans for charity and now CharityBuzz is working with CBS to give one lucky bidder the chance to win a walk-on role in an upcoming episode of How I Met Your Mother. Check out the details for that opportunity on the CharityBuzz web site.
Just in time for the season four premiere we’ll see Forgetting Sarah Marshall released on DVD. I got an early copy and I have to say that the special features are really impressive. I highly recommend checking out this DVD if you were a fan of the movie. There’s enough extra stuff there to fill up a weekend and who doesn’t want to spend a weekend with Jason Segel, Mila Kunis, and Kristen Bell?
While you’re waiting for the premiere you should check out the Pop and Culture blog where they love HIMYM as much as we do. I did an interview with them about the show and this site. Check it out!

Robarn - What’s to Come

With the premiere just five days away, it’s no secret that the beginning of season 4 is going to deal with Barney’s new found interest in Robin (seriously, who hasn’t had a crush on her?) How do we think that’s going to play out? There are a few scenarios:
- Barney goes all-in and Robin isn’t as excited about the idea
- Barney tries to play it cool but can’t hide his desires.
- Barney ignores his feelings and overcompensates by parading a cabal of hotties under Robin’s nose.
I’m sure there are other angles but I’m curious what you guys think. How’s it going to play out. Also, and more importantly, how is it going to end?
PS. How awesome are those pictures?

How I Met Your Mother’s Legendary Catch Phrases
How I Met Your Mother (specifically, Barney) has brought back the catchphrase, we all know this and love the show for it. Now we can see them all, rapid fire. Whoever put this video together is a genius and hats off to them for their effort. It’s nine minutes of pure HIMYM awesomeness.
UPDATE: In got taken off YouTube pretty quickly but I snagged it beforehand so I’ve hosted it here myself. Click the image above to view.

More Casting News: Stella has a Sister

TVGuide, in all their infinite wisdom, has released details concerning the appearance of Sara Paxton as a new character on How I Met Your Mother this season. Turns out Stella has a sister. A sister that’s about to be wed. From TV Guide:
Sources tell TVGuide.com exclusively that Sara Paxton (Summerland) has been cast on the CBS sitcom as Nora, Stella’s sister. Stella’s bride-to-be sister. Except that the wedding doesn’t seem to take. For Nora and her beau, at least.
Seeing as the big day is all paid for and whatnot… I’m hearing that Stella decides to seize the moment and elect to walk down the aisle herself, with Ted awaiting her at the other end of the runner.
Now that might suggest that Ted and Stella actually end up married. Asute fans of the show will note, however, that things (especially weddings) don’t always go as planned and pre-vow breakups are not uncommon.
What do you guys think? I’ve never heard of this girl before (she looks like Amy Poehler crossed with Alexis Bledel.) Any opinion on her as an actress? Any thoughts on what this plot development will mean for our hero Ted?
