As you’ve surely noticed, the comments look different all of a sudden. That’s because I’ve decided to use the IntenseDebate commenting system. Don’t freak out, it’s going to be so much better. Now you can:
- Have threaded discussions. Reply directly to a comment to have an easier to read discussion.
- Create an account. While this isn’t mandatory (you can still comment without an account) creating an account saves time since it keeps you logged in so you won’t have to type your name and email over and over.
- Track your comments. IntenseDebate tracks your comments not just here, but on any blog that uses the software. And since it was just purchased by the folks that create WordPress, I think we’re going to start seeing it used a lot more. If you have a ID account, it keeps you logged in so you can comment on any site using IntenseDebate without having to re-enter your info
- Voting. Now you can give comments thumbs up and thumbs down, kind of like on Digg. I think that’s a cool feature.
- Create a profile. Once you create an account with IntenseDebate, you can create a profile with links to other social networks, have it update with your Twitter status, upload an avatar, and more.
If you want to read more about IntenseDebate check out their web site or the excellent write up Chris Coyier did on his site.
I hope you guys like the change. Let me know your initial thoughts about the new system.
PS. Since I’ll be using my global IntenseDebate account I’ll no longer appear as “JD” in the comments but as “JustinDickinson” instead. That’s always been me, just not the me many of you have known. Hope it doesn’t confuse!
PPS. On old posts My comments will still display as “JD” but won’t be highlighted any differently. It sucks, but I’ll deal with it. Forward progress!
Season 4, Episode 8: Wooo! Discussion
By JD
Great, a Robin episode. It’s about time. Although it wasn’t really just a Robin episode, it focused on everyone. This double plot line makes me wish they’d done this all along instead of letting some characters languish in episodes past. Tonight we saw that Robin and Ted’s lives have been better, that Marshall really is Ted’s best friend, and that sometimes Lily wishes she was single (apparently still from the first time she went out with Robin in Sweet Taste of Liberty.)

Woooo! recap will be delayed
By JD
What up yall. After I requested people not post spoilers in the comments it’s like daddy just slapped mommy at the table and everyone is all tense now. It’ll be OK, I promise
Since I’d rather not focus on the drama, let’s just move right along. Tonight’s episode “Woooo!” I know nothing about, plot-wise. I also won’t be watching it until tomorrow since I’m going to an Iron & Wine show tonight and won’t get home till late. Anyone else a fan? I wanted to make a post where people who aren’t seeing live music can discuss the episode in the interim before I write my review. I won’t be reading the comments until after I watch the epsiode so as not to spoil anything so try to behave while I’m away.
As I’ve done in the past, once I write my recap I’ll close comments here and link to the new recap. I won’t move these comments over as there’s no good way to do that and it’s also not entirely necessary, I don’t think. Feel free to wait for the full recap but if you’re just bursting to discuss, at least you’ll have a place to do it.
PS. There are some Iron & Wine songs that would work well on the show. They should get on that!
Upcoming Gueststars

I didn’t want to post about this since I find the subject to be a complete waste of time but I’ve been getting a lot of email regarding the rumors so I thought it was prudent. I’ll be brief however.
Yes, it’s true that three reality TV personalities will appear on How I Met Your Mother playing themselves. You know which three. One is “famous” for being friends with another girl who was lucky enough to live in the town that was the second choice for the setting of a reality show. The other is “famous” for being a jerk to the first. The third is “famous” for making a sex tape and having a huge ass.
Am I upset about this? A little, but not in the way you might think. I don’t really care about seeing them in an episode. The fact they’re playing themselves leads me to believe it’ll be more akin to Heidi Klum and the other Victoria Secret angels’ appearance last year in The Yips as opposed to a character role like Britney Spears. I can deal with that and it won’t really effect my enjoyment of the show.
It bothers me because I hate to see How I Met Your Mother become the entry point to “real” acting for any musician, reality star, athelete, ex-con, cyborg who wants to make it out of their current caste. The show deserves more than that and it’s definitely better than these people. Put MTV’s rejects on Gary Unmarried or any of the other trite sitcoms. Why How I Met Your Mother anyway? It doesn’t seem like this show shares a demographic with Date My Mom’s Ex Husband viewers.
It’s not my problem though and there’s nothing to be done about it. I just hope this doesn’t become a trend.
Also, a bit of housekeeping. Please, please, please refrain from posting upcoming episode spoilers or previews in the comments. Links to these things are fine, just try not to copy and paste. A lot of readers (and at least one of the writers here) likes to stay away from such things and throwing them up in the comments makes that difficult. At least make it a choice to see the spoiler (like with a link.) I don’t want to delete comments so please just don’t do it then I won’t have to.
Thanks!
Season 4, Episode 7 “Not a Father’s Day/Jeremy’s Sock” Discussion
By JD
This is a little late but I’ve been sick for a week and I’m only slowly rejoining the living so my apologies for the quiet week.
Before anyone jumps on the “continuity error” yes, Barney made a reference to having paternal scares before in Something Blue but tonight wasn’t suggesting this was the first time he’s had a scare, just something about this time motivated him to create a holiday.
So Marshall and Lily want a baby. Robin’s homeless and Barney never wants to have kids. It was a great episode tonight, full of quality laughs. Plus LAME are in their new apartment and seem pretty happy.
