A LAME Baby?

It’s official, there’s a little one on the way. Not on the show, necessarily, but in the lives of Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof. People confirmed today that Alyson is expecting.

Congratulations to Alyson and Alexis!

This raises a lot of obvious questions in regards to the show. Will it be written into the plot? Will they film more now so they can avoid it? What do we think?

    They’ll just work around it.

Wow congrats to Alyson. I hope they don’t try to write it in right now because that would move LAME’s story line way too fast. Maybe they can film some and just plan to take their normal vacation at a different point in the season. Of course if she’s only a month or two along they’ll be able to hide it and she’ll give birth in the off season, so good planning guys. Maybe Alexis (that’s a chick’s name) can come back and we can see some more Sandy Rivers!

I figure Lily is pregnant in Oct of 2009 after seeing her NOT drinking the scotch in the Intervention epsiode…BUT, she did not look to be showing so she was probably newly pregnant, Lily(not Alyson)

So I am thinking Lily will not be pregnant and they will write around it, which I know the writers can do for sure.

I also know if Lily and Marshall do have a baby this is one show that can do it..and it will rock.

How can they write around it? I don’t think even the HIMYM could do it well enough that it doesn’t seem hokey or tacked on.

And Lily can’t just hide behind counters and boxes or be on the phone all the time.

Or, if they feel like it, since it’s in Ted’s head, just ignore it completely. Ted had bad memory, so what?

  6.  Payel | October 22, 2008 @ 5:15 pm

This world is so cruel…….a couple is expecting a baby, that’s such a big moment for them. And all we can think about is a TV show? Shame on us. :P

Here’s the thing: most people don’t announce pregnancy till the second trimester. Which means they probably knew when they shot Intervention (or at least had just found out). So they’ve got something figured out, I’m sure, and did when they shot her not drinking the scotch.

My post from two weeks ago…..haha

Lily’s not drinking scotch in 2009 wouldn’t work in relation to Alyson Hannigan being pregnant now. The scene in 2009 takes place one year later, so October of 2009, and if she’s supposed to be pregnant there she’s not showing. Alyson Hannigan is due in spring of 2009.

    thats great!!!! :)

I know this is off topic, but I’m watching Private Practice on ABC and Carl the bartendar is in it! He’s playing a husband who’s wife is having a difficult child delivery. It was so nice to see him lol

  12.  MarieMJS | October 22, 2008 @ 10:53 pm

Well, the intervention episode did feature “the year 2009″ but who know if they will make one season = one year because of that? They could speed up the rythm a little to reach that moment from the intervention episode and makes it similar to Alyson’s pregnancy… It’s totally possible and would work the same in the storyline. It’s no real time, they can just go around it, as long as they don’t nuke the fridge (whooops, jump the shark ;) ).
I wouldn’t mind seeing a baby in the show next season, I’m pretty sure it would add some fun and let’s be honest, the writers won’t be able to go for the same dynamic with characters after 5 years of this, things HAVE to change :)

Whoa. Kurt “The Ironman” Irons from The Platinum Rule is on Pushing Daisies.

It’s weird that he’s all shaven and not sobbing like a woman.

Not the proper article to comment on but there isn’t one so…

OMG Did anyone see Colbert Report last night? I think we have a fellow fan. When doing a skit on generic first names and occupations (ie Joe the Plumber) he mentions…

WENDY THE WAITRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (you can see it now at Hulu.com. It’s in the first few minutes)

  15.  Kevin | October 23, 2008 @ 11:30 am

When Mariska Hargitay was recently pregnant, the producers just used angles and trick photography and never had Det. Olivia Benson get pregnant. Of course, Mariska’s SVU character was not married, and Alyson’s character is, so that could make a difference. Still, I feel that it is probably too early and they will do the same thing that they did on Law and Order.

They do drink a lot on this show. Is the alcohol on the set real? Looks like there is a lot of fake beers and cocktails in Alyson’s future.

  16.  Chrysee | October 23, 2008 @ 1:16 pm

Supposedly in the pilot (?) when they drank at the end with Ranjit, the alcohol was real and Ranjit the actor (don’t know his name, sorry) does not drink for religious reasons, but no one had mentioned to the actors that the alcohol (it may have been champagne? I haven’t watched the pilot lately) was real. So I’m sure they know now to be careful.

  17.  Chrysee | October 23, 2008 @ 3:00 pm

Also, Lily wears a huge variety of very trendy and adorable clothes (well maybe less now after their credit fiasco? But then again, Marshall did just get a job) As long as Alyson doesn’t balloon up and gain lots of weight around the face or upper arms or other telling non-belly areas, they can probably get away with babydoll dresses or tunic length sweaters or other looser-but-still-trendy items until the last trimester if they want to hide it. But judging by how recently the creators suggested there could be a baby in the near future, they could try to work it in somehow? Maybe? But it won’t be impossible to hide if they don’t want to write it in.

If I recall, the $2500 bottle of scotch scene just said 2009, no specific date, even though an entire year is implied. Perhaps one of them has reason to celebrate a new job or promotion and just springs for it sometime in January 2009. Then soon after, Lily can reveal she’s preggers and move the story line accordingly. Then come Season 5, they do a montage of the summer and Lily getting huge and then giving birth.

I hope they don’t do too much of that stupid hide her behind a lamp or table crap.

    Congrats to Alyson!

  19.  john darc | October 24, 2008 @ 3:58 am

    Ted’s math implies it’s a year later. 5 people, 10 dollars a week, 52 weeks, 520 dollars a person, 2500 dollar scotch.

  20.  john darc | October 24, 2008 @ 3:59 am

ah, I didn’t read the whole thing. Maybe it could be a splurge, who knows.

  21.  Chrysee | October 24, 2008 @ 8:22 am

I could see the scotch being earlier I guess. The idea seemed to be a year later because of everyone’s like major life changes, but already Ted and Robin have negated theirs. So the only change left to celebrate would be Marshall and Lily’s new life in their apartment. Or Lily being pregnant. Or Robin and Barney getting married. lol who knows.

  22.  Payel | October 24, 2008 @ 3:32 pm

Is it true?? Next week no episode!!!!? :(

  23.  JD | October 24, 2008 @ 4:51 pm

That’s correct. There’ll be a new episode the following week.

  24.  L.keller | October 26, 2008 @ 1:42 pm

    JD,

I know that you confirmed that there is not going to be a new episode next week. But i think it would be nice to put a post everytime there is not a new episode, because with the present state of things we are pretty tense to know more.

I read your answer #23 but it is a bit confusing because you said:

“That’s correct. There’ll be a new episode the following week.”

1/ That´s correct- usually shows enthusiasm and answers a positive question. In german you answer “Doch” when you want to say yes to a negative question. The same as in basque with “Baietz”. Perhaps changing the blog into german or basque would appeal to a smaller audience, but definitively would make a more accurate blog.

2/ There will be a new episode the following week.- You wrote that on Friday. If you didn´t read message #23 you probably think that there really is. The following week could mean the following week from that monday, but without having that information it means next week from today (sunday 26).

And getting ahead of you… yes, I do fear an intervention. But being in Germany probably is a 40 letters long banner, so they won´t do it. I am not in a “super important dessert scholarship”. But thanks to HIMYM I think I am learning German quicker (Prosieben Saturday .14h. 2 chapters), not very nice voices though.

By the way, thanks to the anonimous person that uploads right before it ends every week’s episode. Now from E! Ontario.

  25.  L.keller | October 26, 2008 @ 1:45 pm

I myself made an error. I wrote “if you dind´t read message#23″ when is “message #22″. Stupid!, stupid!, Stupid!

  26.  L.keller | October 26, 2008 @ 1:52 pm

too much. I made an error in the error correction. Hopeless.

  27.  High Hoper | October 26, 2008 @ 2:30 pm

JD does an amazing work here with this page, and, although none of us pay him to do it, I can’t understand why you tell him what to do. He is a fan of the series as everyone here, and I really love coming here and reading all of the story he tells, as I love every commentary and different points of view. But telling him what to do (about writing if there’s an episode this week or no) seems to me so selfish…

  28.  Payel | October 26, 2008 @ 3:41 pm

i don’t know whether it’s completely irrelevant , but I always felt thankful to JD for this wonderful site. I know there are hell lot of sites for HIMYM, and some of them has posted spoiler for even episode 10 by now. But according to me this is the best site for HIMYM. Mostly because here we can meet and express our perspective to other fans.
Thanks JD (no matter how wrong you were about intervention ;) )

  29.  Wingman | October 27, 2008 @ 1:13 am

Yea. many many thanks to JD. This is the only HIMYM site/blog I read because I find it the most insightful, and the other fans/commentors are good too. And with the 150 comment on the last post, seems like the site and show are growing its fan base.

We could all choose to waste our lives away on countless other HIMYM sites, but we choose to waste it here.

So thank you JD and HYMT Fans.

  30.  L.keller. | October 27, 2008 @ 1:39 pm

Nothing farther from my intention than to order JD what to do. I think it is an awesome blog. But as we know from HIMYM “It´s hard to convey tone on emails” as it is on comments. My intention was to suggest JD that even if there is not a new episode this week, people (like me) want to be 100% sure that there is not, specially after last week´s episode. Because the weeks when there is not episodes people don´t comment much and that will give an excuse to do it (having a new post).

And I did correct his phrase “That’s correct. There’ll be a new episode the following week.”… not because that was the first thing I read and I thougth that there really was a new episode today, but to make a humoristic atttempt that i thought could be funny. But try to be funny and elegant writing from a turkish parlor in germany(i am not german) with people speaking loudly through webcam or telephone in all the languages of this earth, with a flu, with that insane turkish music and a connection speed that makes a donkey look fast.

I repeat myself and say that this blog is awesome, and I love JD in a manly way, and that I do click always on the banners so JD can keep the site without having to spend his own money. And of course sorry (to JD) if I have offended him in anyway.

  31.  High Hoper | October 27, 2008 @ 5:51 pm

@L.keller.: My apologies. I think I have behaved like an asshole on this issue. Sorry. Sometimes I forgot this is nothing serious that my life depends on it… It’s a place to have fun alltogether around this element, HIMYM.

    Once again, sorry…

by the way, how would everyone prefer the lily pregnancy if they finally write it to the story? Tell it from now on, or in flashbacks during “mid-end 4″/5 season?

  32.  JD | October 27, 2008 @ 7:45 pm

    Hey guys!

For some reason I wasn’t getting these comments in my email, whoops!

@l.keller, sorry for the confusion! I know I have a lot of international readers and my english lends itself to the coloquialism side of things (even for people from the US, I am very much from New England, I talk wicked good.)

@everyone else, thank you so much for the kind words! I really love this site for the community (that’s you guys.) When I started there weren’t that many sites which gave me a leg-up in terms of building a community. there are others now (that are much more reticent about posting news updates, i might add) and I wish them luck. I stopped posting every spoiler and news item because I already had what I set out for—an amazing community. So hats-off to you guys for fulfilling my vision of what a HIMYM site could be.

I’m going to post a couple things later tonight or tomorrow to tide us over until the next new episode (#6 “Happily Ever After” aires on November 3rd, 2008AD at 8:30 EST on the CBS network) Hope that was clear :)
