A Look at the Rest of How I Met Your Mother Season 3
Spoilers follow, do not read if you’re not into that sort of thing.
Without a new episode this week lets take time to look at what’s coming in the future.
First, we’re getting 20 out of the 22 originally planned episodes. This might affect how I position the season vs seasons…
Next week, April 14th, The Simmons Report.
After Marshall witnesses a work buddy get yelled after handing in a report, he becomes paranoid that the same will happen to him.
Also rumored: Marshall quits his job and Stella might return. There’s been some buzz about both her and Britney Spears returning. I don’t really care if Britney comes back but could we see a return of Sarah Chalke? John Cho? I hope so.
The following week we get the Robin Sparkles episode featuring her other hit song, the eponymous “Sandcastles in the Sand”, which is a sad ballad. I can’t wait to see the music video. Watch MySpace for it before the episode premieres in case it’s leaked.
This episode will also feature James Van Der Beek as Simon, Ms. Sparkles Canadian love interest who returns from her past and rekindles her childhood crush.
Other news on the four other upcoming episodes:
- We’ll meet Lily’s older brother before the season is over
- Barney might end up with a girlfriend
- The gang will face a “life-changing moment” according to Bays that will play into “the ideas of this show, about destiny and free will and how little control we have over our own lives.”
- Craig Thomas likes Barney and Robin together. “Their scenes are great. The cool thing is, we can explore their chemistry by having the two of them go out and kind of be each other’s wingman. We know we’re going to do that.” Sadly, Craig “can’t comment on that” when asked about a potential romantic fling between the two.
What do we think? Will these episodes be legendary? What about all the hints at Barney’s plot lines? I personally can’t see him with a girlfriend, but I trust the writers not to disappoint. It could be funny if he dated a girl that was really aggressive and kept him on edge.

Barney with a girlfriend?? It may play out differently than I picture it in my head, but I equate monogamous Barney with Sweatpants Barney from The Yips…kind of defeated.
Has Lily ever mentioned a brother before??
Some interesting twists and turns…But mostly I am really excited for Sandcastles in the Sand.

I’m really curious about that life-changing moment affecting the whole gang… Any ideas what that could be?
I really can’t picture Barney with a gf. We’ve seen his sensitive side in the last episode though. Maybe that was some step to the next level.
I’m looking forward to the last eps of the season. Can’t wait to see Robin Sparkles again! I agree with ky on the t-shirt. I kinds like it, too.

Also, maybe Barney’s girlfriend will be Robin? That wouldn’t be too bad. But I prefer him single, really..just keeping the lingering chemistry between those two boiling away under the surface is so awesome.

Watched a bunch of old episodes today, here’s three things I noticed:
James Stinson (Wayne Brady) and Tom’s wedding should be this season (episode 2×10 “Single Stamina”), although much of the story was played in that episode.
Ted’s 30th Birthday is coming up! And there’s supposed to be a scene with a goat! (episode 1×21 “Milk”)
Victoria returns from her Germany fellowship this year (episode 1×16 “Cupcake”)…would be nice to see a cleavage-baring return of Ashley Williams.

Barney having a girlfriend is really interesting &……….impossible to imagine. Only one person stand a chance i guess- Marshal’s Prof Lewis.
I am scared about the life changing moment. coz their life rocks!!!
I am too looking forward to Ted’s 30th birthday. But i wont like if victoria comes back. So let her fall in love with a geman guy & get married to him.
I didn’t understand one thing……will this season contain only 20 episodes??

I´m also thinking about waht this live-changing moment could be, and I have two theories:
1. Remember when Marshall went to see Stella in “Ten Sessions” and she told him the mole he has is a little irregular? Maybe it actually IS something dangerous, just like Marshall thought?
2. Looking at the spoilers, there is a chance of Marshall loosing his job. And let´s face it, without a job, there is no way he and Lily can afford their appartament, especially with all those creditcard bills we know are still there. I see a financial disaster coming.
What do you think?

@Marcy: Well, your theories sound interesting, but Bays said the life-changing moment would have an impact on all of the gang. So, I can’t imagine that one of them becomes seriously ill, since it only affects the rest of the group to a certain extent. Honestly, I don’t like that one, it would be too sad. Your second theory again only deals with Lily and Marshall.
My first thought on this matter was, either Lily or Robin become pregnant (or maybe both at the same time? No, just kidding : D) However, that also wouldn’t affect everyone of them. It’s pretty hard to think of something to happen. …or I probably just complicate things in my mind. However, I am sure Bays and Thomas will have prepared something really huge for us.

In an interview with Carter Bays that I listened to recently, he said the life-changing event was going to happen to Robin. Granted, that may not still be the case as they could have changed their mind since then (this was several weeks ago)

My husband really wants the sweatshirts the How I Met Your Mother gang always end up wearing. They are faded sheatshirts with a three leaf plant patch on the left arm. Any idea of where I can get that for him?
