Hold on tight, I’ve got an idea
OK, so I had an idea tonight. We all love HIMYM and have a grand old time discussing it here each week. I know there’s a lot of other stuff out there that I like as well, and I imagine you all do too.
So I was thinking, we have this great group of people that is expressive, and opinionated, and likes to talk, what if I started another blog that covered everything that wasn’t HIMYM?
So here’s how it’d work: I’ll fire up the new blog, and post topics once, twice, maybe three times a week. Then all of you fine people who come here to talk HIMYM can go there and if the current topic interests you, we talk about that there. I think it’s a great idea. What do you guys think?
As far as topics, I’m sure we’d talk about other TV shows but I’d also like to discuss music, movies, books, news, etc. I’m also thinking you guys could suggest topics, if there’s something you’ve been thinking about but I haven’t brought up.
So, thoughts? Leave a comment if you think you’d subscribe to this other blog if it exisited and participate from time to time. And if you wouldn’t, leave a comment and let me know why.

Well that'd be the idea. The other blog would cover all of that. we could talk about chuck, and the big bang theory, and whatever else we want.

I'd recommend opening the blog to additional authors to ensure a good spew of content on both blogs…

I would subscribe if there were a couple of topics we could discuss each week, such as sports, current events, pop culture, etc. I only watch HIMYM so I wouldn't discuss tv shows

Jd that does sound like a really cool idea but you need to take a hard look at the comments after the "Prop 8 musical" post. Many people are displaying wide ranges of political and religious views, and not everyone is positive to each other. You want to be sure you are ready to handle more conversation of that type if you open a new site.
But I think it's an awesome idea

Maybe I wasn't clear in explaining. Other topics would be discussed, but it'd be an open format. Maybe one week I'd make a post about Chuck, but that wouldn't mean I'd post about it every week.
I don't want to do a forum because, to be honest, I don't like forums. They always fill up with minutia and I can't keep up with them. The point of the blog format is that I like to voice my opinions on things that I like and I love hearing from all of you.
As far as guest authors, I'm all for it. I've spoken to a few of you about co-writing in the past so this is a logical step.
Well it sounds like you guys would be into it. I'll add it to my list of things to do.

Honestly, a good Chuck blog would be the best thing ever, heck, I'd even contribute. Course, I'd be open to other stuff too, I'm always up for a good discussion.

I think it's a wonderful idea, and say more power to you. Having guest posts would really help you out, and broaden the scope. Of course you would be the editor, and approve of these guest posts. Music, books, events, and other great shows that don't have great blogs/sites/fan communities online.

No I thought it was pretty clear. And I see the point on forums, they do become spaced out, over run, and usually end up having people bicker endlessly.

If it's gonna be a blog, I think the less topics, the best. Concentrate on 5/6 issues (for example: cinema(general), music(general, I offer myself to help on this matter), chuck, big bang theory, pushing daisies and offtopic. A review from last episodes from that 3 series (pushing daisies will end soon :S) and some articles from the other things (one of each per week?although offtopic could be done more often) …
I think it can be a thing!

If we are talking about more than 2 TV shows, I think a multitude of blogs would be unwieldy and messy. It would seem more sensible to set up a forum…

I think it would be wise to use the WordPress' User administration. there will be contributors who will be discussing certain TV Shows or any certain topic (for each person) then there would be a moderator who will check the posts.

No… bad idea. We have all come here because we like How I Met Your Mother. We all watch the show religiously ever week. If we didn't, we wouldn't have hunt down a blog that relates to it. Honestly I wouldn't be interested in a blog for any other TV show, and probably neither would many of the people here. You would just be talking to yourself.

I think exactly the same. It would be a chaos to run a blog for music, for example. It could work based on one thing ('the big bang theory', for example)… If you want to talk about many things, I think a forum would be better…

I think its a good idea! I dont think it would hurt this HIMYM blog, because you're so committed to this blog, and I dont think the new blog would take away anything. Plus people can choose if they want to view your new blog or not. I think it would be nice to have a place to discuss other topics with nice fellow himym fans

I'm confused as to how people would think an idea like this would somehow be a Bad thing. It'll be vaguely tied to hymt.com but past that, it just happens to be most of the people that frequent the site talking about other topics of interest. It's a completely separate website…..has no bearing on this one.

I think it's a great idea. I have no worries about quality of this blog going down, up or sideways. Those of you who don't think you'd like another blog by Justin, just don't bother subscribing…..problem solved.

HIMYM is the only show I watch.
But a forum would be awesome because then we could tailor it to other interests as well. Plus then you don't have to read things you aren't interested in… unless you are really bored…. or avoiding your masters thesis….

Yeah, I'm not saying I don't enjoy other things, but I probably don't share these interests with you. The same goes for most bloggers. If you were to have another blog at least SOME focus should be retained. Perhaps it would only focus on television?
