More Casting News: Stella has a Sister

TVGuide, in all their infinite wisdom, has released details concerning the appearance of Sara Paxton as a new character on How I Met Your Mother this season. Turns out Stella has a sister. A sister that’s about to be wed. From TV Guide:

Sources tell TVGuide.com exclusively that Sara Paxton (Summerland) has been cast on the CBS sitcom as Nora, Stella’s sister. Stella’s bride-to-be sister. Except that the wedding doesn’t seem to take. For Nora and her beau, at least.

Seeing as the big day is all paid for and whatnot… I’m hearing that Stella decides to seize the moment and elect to walk down the aisle herself, with Ted awaiting her at the other end of the runner.

Now that might suggest that Ted and Stella actually end up married. Asute fans of the show will note, however, that things (especially weddings) don’t always go as planned and pre-vow breakups are not uncommon.

What do you guys think? I’ve never heard of this girl before (she looks like Amy Poehler crossed with Alexis Bledel.) Any opinion on her as an actress? Any thoughts on what this plot development will mean for our hero Ted?

    I honestly thought he and Robin were going to get married and split as I always thought that would be a nice twist to the show. This way, Ted getting married creates the upfront appearance of knowing the mother, but she doesn’t have to be. As was stated, it is possible for them to split and I think that is the inevitable result since Chalke has another show to shoot for full time.

    I agree with Gravity above. Maybe Ted and Stella will get married but they break up later. As much as I love Sarah Chalke being on the show, the whole Stella-being-the-mother theory still doesn’t work for me because she already has a daughter.

    SPOILERS***

    I think they will break up just before the wedding, or Ted will think something and go astray just when the famous sentence of “do you take stella bla bla bla” and decide not to get married, thinking about what robin says that this is not the grand finale he deserves

    ***/END OF SPOILERS

    BTW, Sara’s cute!

    Ah, this must be the wedding she asked him to at the end of last season (the groom being the “I’m a vegan” guy).

    I doubt very seriously Ted and Stella are going to end up married. I’m clinging to the notion that there’s no way Stella is the mother. They’re hitting us over the head with Stella’s presence and this marriage thing for her to be the mother. In true HIMYM form, the mother is going to be some crazy surprise twist whenever they decide to reveal her.

    I seriously bet this is the episode they break up. Like with Robin, the real possibility of getting married will make them break up. I love Stella, but I too still don’t think she’s the mother.

    I’ve seen Sara Paxton in Sydney White.. She acts quite well but I don’t like her.. :P
    I so hope Ted and Stella don’t end up getting married! I mean, I like Stella but she just doesn’t fit as the mother.. and if they get married, there would no longer be any suspense about who the mother is. It’s kinda cool waiting for the mother to appear.. :)

    I saw sarah paxton in superhero movie… it was a bad movie but she was cute!

    i think The Modern Gal has the right idea. I think stella initially says yes to wedding proposal. fast forward to the sisters vegan wedding and something happens where stella and ted have to split. i have no basis for this, just my thoughts :)

    Wow, first Stella, now her sister. That’s a hot family.

    There’s no way Stella’s the mom.

    @john darc Excellent obscure reference to the show. First Time in New York is an underrated episode.

    @JD

    I actually love that episode (as I love many of the episodes of the show) and was sad to see they couldn’t get “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” for the DVD. So they end up cutting one of my favorite lines.

    @JD and @john darc

    Wait, do people not like that episode? ‘CAUSE THEY’RE WRONG.

    I’m guessing everyone has seen this from Michael Ausiello on Entertainment Weekly.Com by now:

    “Former One Tree Hill bad girl Danneel Harris has replaced ex-Summerland beauty Sara Paxton as Stella’s sib Nora, sources confirm to me exclusively. Although showrunners Craig Thomas and Carter Bays adored Paxton (whose hiring was first reported by my buddy Mitovich over at TVGuide.com), a Mother insider says the duo felt the part called for a slightly older actress. ‘They want to find another role for [Sara] on the show,’ confides my source.”

    PS. There is no way Stella is the mom. I keep waiting for Ted to pull out the the yellow umbrella and Stella to say, “Hey, that’s my best friend So and So’s umbrella”. That would be classic HIMYM.
