Official: Britney Spears Returns to How I Met Your Mother
Better watch your step and I hope you aren’t wearing open-toed shoes because TVGuide.com just dropped some info. Britney Spears is now officially set to return to How I Met Your Mother for a May sweeps episode entitled “Everything Must Go”. But wait, there’s more. It’s a spoiler, so proceed at your own risk.
TVGuide says:
In the episode, titled “Everything Must Go,” Barney and Abby realize that they have one thing in common — their mutual hatred of Ted. The new “couple” decide to go to the bar to flaunt their new relationship in Ted’s face. Desperate to get a rise out of his former pal, Barney pops a surprising question to Abby.
I know what you’re thinking: Barney hates Ted!? Fallout from his makeout session with Robin last week, perhaps?
Update: Here’s a snippet from the script:
Barney: Oh, wow, Ted, long time no see. I guess you’re wondering why I haven’t called in a while. See, I’m kind of done with the whole having a life and being awesome thing. Now I’m all about staying in, wearing loose-fitting clothing, and watching bad movies my girlfriend makes us watch.
Ted: That so?
Barney: I’m sorry, have you guys met my girlfriend, Abby? She’s my girlfriend, and I just love her love her love her. We’re in love, just like Tom and Katie. [Jumping up] I’m in love! And there’s nothing about it that makes everyone around me uncomfortable or annoyed!”
I don’t like the sound of this at all! Barney hating Ted? I know we saw him raise up off the table ala Darth Vader in Game Night last year, does this complete his transition to the sith with Ted playing the role of Obi Wan? Did I stretch too much for that metaphor? What do you guys think?

Since Ted calls Barney “uncle Barney” in his stories, I guess it will all turn out o.k. in the end, but I certainly don´t like the way that is ahead of us.
Bringing Britney back is one things that bugs me, but bringing her back as something that sounds like Barney´s new “girlfriend” bugs me much, much more.
And Barney hating Ted (Shouldn´t it actually be the other way around anyway?)? I really do hope this won´t last for too long. But I must admit, that I simply don´t believe in Barney turning “evil”, well “eviler”. Not after his hippie past. But who knows, maybe instead of turning evil, Barney will return to the forces of light (well, at least a bit).
I pray to God that Bays and Thomas know what they are doing.
Oh, and I still want to know where the mysterious girl will play a role, because she has to, right?

I really don’t know what to think. It all sounds extremely weird to me. Barney’s Girlfriend, Hatred to Ted…
Bays, Thomas: Where are you taking us in the finale!!!?? There are many things in the last episodes (since no tomorrow) that, if they all come back together at 3×20, there will be a mushroom cloud of emotions!

Barney’s just pissed off/hurt because Ted ditched the bro lifestyle to date Stella. It’s not the first time we’ve seen it, and it won’t be the last – remember his reaction when he found out James was monogamous? This reaction’s more severe, but it’s essentially the same thing.

I think Bays and Thomas are just trying to create some dramatic tension between Barney and Ted now that there’s been a separation of the bros.
But I think somewhere down the line, something’s going to give and they’re both going to realize that they need each other.
