Robarn – What’s to Come

With the premiere just five days away, it’s no secret that the beginning of season 4 is going to deal with Barney’s new found interest in Robin (seriously, who hasn’t had a crush on her?) How do we think that’s going to play out? There are a few scenarios:

  • Barney goes all-in and Robin isn’t as excited about the idea
  • Barney tries to play it cool but can’t hide his desires.
  • Barney ignores his feelings and overcompensates by parading a cabal of hotties under Robin’s nose.

I’m sure there are other angles but I’m curious what you guys think. How’s it going to play out. Also, and more importantly, how is it going to end?

    I cant decide between the 2 latter ones:

    # Barney tries to play it cool but can’t hide his desires.
    # Barney ignores his feelings and overcompensates by parading a cabal of hotties under Robin’s nose.

    I think:

    Barney will try to play it cool by parading a cabal of hotties under Robin’s nose; however, eventually his desires will show.

    I think irony pretty much requires that #1 happen eventually, even if there’s some amount of ignoring feelings/attempts at playing it cool beforehand. The universe has just been waiting for the man who’s left a string of heartbroken women behind him to land in a situation where the tables are turned. Also, Barney is nothing if not impulsive and enthusiastic, and I can see that aspect of his character playing out with Barney deciding to jump in with both feet. And then Robin is sooooo cautious.

    The one thing I hope they don’t go for is the “parading a cabal of hotties,” just because it’s a theme that’s been thoroughly explored on this show with Ted and Robin’s relationship, albeit with slightly different motivations. I can see Barney keeping up his normal routines with women while trying to play it cool, but if they go that route, I think the angle very much has to be Barney trying to prove to himself that he’s not in love with Robin, rather than Barney trying to prove anything to anyone else.

    I agree with neoKn. I also think it could be the two latter scenarios. Barney doesn’t know how to deal with this kind of feelings. He hasn’t been in love since… what was it? 1998? So he tries to pretend he’s still after all the women in the world but Robin.

    They don’t show up at the future flashbacks. They’re gonna get married. Not that I want it, but that’s a big possibility.

    i think they’ll become very serious. but you have to remember that somewhere during this season robin will be living with ted. maybe it will be robin playing it cool… ???
    and what about that goat??? lol!

    Come on guys! Robin is going to travel the world. Next stop: Tokyo. She’s going to trample on Barney’s heart. You know he’s the eternal victim. And he plays “wounded” so well…

    Plus I really don’t want to see Barney de-fanged.

    I don’t think we’ll see Barney de-fanged at all. Bays and Thomas have repeatedly assured fans that that’s the last thing they have in mind. Instead, they’re just going to have a lot of fun with brOTP while still keeping Barney, Barney. :)

    I’m not reading any spoilers though. I’m putting my fingers in my ears and going “la la la la” right now. Tis the trouble with being a British fan… Totally torn…
    Next Monday I will be crying! And possibly booking a flight to the USA.

    @ agon I’m at work so I can’t check, but can anyone remember if in The Goat Ted said Robin was living there, or living with him? I feel like he said she was just living in that apartment, not with him specifically.

    I think it will be a combo of everything. I love RoBarn, and I would love to see them try to do a kind of secret thing eventually, maybe with Robin thinking it’s just sex and Barney falling deeper. That would be the set up for a confrontation and for Robin to have to make a decision.

    @Courtney, they didn’t specify that Ted was still living there when Robin was living in the apartment and for awhile I thought the same thing you did, and that I’d figured out their secret. However, I asked Carter Bays about it and he implied that Ted in fact was still living there when Robin moves in. So much for that idea!

    I agree those pictures are wonderful. Cobie looks gorgeous, and so does NPH for that matter.. haha. ;)
    I also agree that he’s probably going to parade hotties around and try to act cool… but I think there will be subtle parts where he cant hide it and does something nice for her .
    Im just so excited to see what happens!

    That photo of NPH is very cool. did you find it the same way as Robin’s?
    Man she is hot, but isn’t that an accordion? That’s the top of the line when it comes to “sexy” instruments.

    To Tara: Yea, I’m spoiler-free myself, but the interviews with Bays/Thomas leave me optimistic. :) The wait will be so worth it. Are you planning to watch it when it airs in the UK, or watching it online?

    I saw a trailer for the premiere (I assume it’s the premiere) where Barney is in his apartment with Lily and apparently trying to tell her about his crush on Robin but has some issues getting it out. I believe he ends his failed attempt to tell her by saying “What’s up with you?” in his clearly-fake-casual way. Looked promising.

    @G – Online if at all possible! But that’s relying on the nice fans from the USA taking pity on us. I doubt iTunes will work – it certainly didn’t with Dr Horrible.

    BroTP is preferrable to RoBarn anyway. ;)

    As I´m a total spoiler – junkie, I´m not going to say but except for, that I think the entire Barney/ Robin thing will be somehow going on for the entire season ;)

    @G and Tara: As a true shipper I´m also definately pro BroTP. RoBarn simply sounds odd. And BroTP has this wonderful double meaning :D

    I don’t know how long it will take for it to get to this point, but I feel like the goat episode has clued us in that when Marshall and Lily finally move into their new apartment, that Robin will be moving in with Ted. Will it be Robarn moving in with Ted? That is the question.

    @Kevin – yeah, this bothers me. I just can’t imagine Barney moving out of the fortress of barnitude in order to move into Marshall & Ted’s old ramshackle appartment. Even if it does have Robin in it!

    @Marcy – the double meaning of BroTP ‘aint lost on me! Tee hee. Especially given the “deleted scene” 3-way (on YouTube and I’m sure you’ve all watched it) with Marshall, Barney and Lily. (not to mention of course that play where Neil and Josh were lovers…) Oh, what they do to us! :D :D ;)

    Personally, I think it’s going to be all three of those options. We’ve seen before that when Barney get’s flustered, he doesn’t generally go with just ONE option, but rather a litany….

    I still hold-up to the idea that Robin and Barney will NOT be ending up together, but funked if I know, they’re good for each other….I just don’t want them to end up together.

    As for the pictures. Damn.

    @Jorjilm – AFAIK, Out Magazine deliberately posed Neil as Steve McQueen in all the photos for their photoshoot. Thus the lack-of-suit-ness. I’m sure someone will post a link to the original iconic pictures of Steve.

    I’m so excited about this upcoming season! I really don’t know how it’s goign to be for barney to deal with this feelings cause he’s such a jerk with women that I have no idea how they’re gonna make this plot work out =p
