Season 4, Episode 7 “Not a Father’s Day/Jeremy’s Sock” Discussion

This is a little late but I’ve been sick for a week and I’m only slowly rejoining the living so my apologies for the quiet week.

Before anyone jumps on the “continuity error” yes, Barney made a reference to having paternal scares before in Something Blue but tonight wasn’t suggesting this was the first time he’s had a scare, just something about this time motivated him to create a holiday.

So Marshall and Lily want a baby. Robin’s homeless and Barney never wants to have kids. It was a great episode tonight, full of quality laughs. Plus LAME are in their new apartment and seem pretty happy.

The Good

Drunk Baby Lily is awesome. Think about that whole bit for a second. Picture how that would’ve played out on any other sitcom. It would’ve been terrible and cringeworthy. Enormous credit to Alyson Hannigan for having the comic chops to pull that off. But how did the merger go?

Robin is awesome. Shooting beer cans off the roof? “Didn’t you hear? I’m the lead anchor on CNN and I got a penthouse overlooking Central Park that’s made out of gold. Get your head out of your ass Marshall.” Is that a Canadian delicacy? The in-the-carton beer float? It sounds delicious. Cobie Smulders could stand to have a few of those late-night.

Ted and Robin’s bickering is full of great one-liners too. It’s interesting, and realistic, the way Robin and Ted end up living together. It didn’t work with them dating how’s it going to play out now that they’re single?

The Bad

Not a lot to complain about here. We saw Marshall and Lily moved into their apartment finally, the subject of a baby was discussed as it had to be considering recent real life events. But now that LAME have decided against a baby, how is it going to play out?

I didn’t love the “Ted’s already a dad” montage. Not that I don’t think he is, I just didn’t care for the way it played out. I did like the way they chided him for it though. And the examples of Robin hating babies was unneeded (for me, and I’m sure most of you, casual viewers maybe not) since it’s already clear Robin hates kids.

Oh, and ever since a buddy in college talked about “Pink Sock” one night I find the word “sock” horrifying when used in a title. Don’t know what a “Pink Sock” is? Be happy about that. I’m sure it’s on Urban Dictionary but I’m not about to link to it. It’s gross.

Favorite Moments

  • Marshall as a chick is awesome. Nice touch having both him and Lily think (s)he was cute. (He does make a cuter ugly girl than a creepy guy. See, his hair could be worse.)
  • I love how Barney answers his phone.
  • I can’t believe I haven’t heard sperm referred to as “little Michael Phelps” before.
  • Barney in church was fantastic. What was he going to swear to never do again?
  • “Dinner is a baby.” “Lily, that’s horrible!”
  • “You know what else is huge? Marshall’s head. That thing’s the size of a late August watermelon. Marshall’s baby coming through there? Yowza….” Good thing Robin didn’t visit Marshall’s hometown that fateful Thanksgiving Lily made that realization.
  • Drunk Baby Lily really was amazingly hilarious.
  • “Anytime you even hear the word ‘kids’ you get two little lactation stains on your shirt.”
“Thank God you aren’t a mom. You’re such an ice queen any baby nursing from you would get brain freeze.” <– contender for best joke ever from the series.
  • “I have a permit for that and the other thing was a gift.” Yeah, a gift you gave Lily at her shower.
  • The epilogue Karaoke at the end was awesome.

Barneyism of the Week

“Cheerleader Effect” – aka Bridesmaid Paradox, Sorority Girl Syndrome, or Spice Girl Conspiracy… When girls in a group appear hot only when together. Taken alone? Sled dogs.

Did the “Not a Father’s Day” club feel reminiscent of ‘NO MA’AM‘ from Married with Children to anyone else? For some reason with the t-shirts and the lame guys and the meeting in the bar I was heavily reminded. The greeting card and scotch-baptism were a nice touch.

Yea, i thought baby lily was freaking awesome.

the barney scene where he’s in chruch i think can be filled out to at least an episode!!!

    extras people extras!!

  2. Diana |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:19 am GMT -4

I watched the episode on my DVR, and as soon as they dropped the “notafathersday.com” website, I typed in the link. I enjoy the full pledge for the day. AND that the day is sponsored for Goliath National Bank.

“Dinner is a baby.” ” Lily that’s awful!” – might just be the line of the night.

Other lines – from the gentleman on the TV – “Did any one else see that naked lady?”

Did I miss something? What did Robin do with her dogs when she moved to Tokyo? Will she get them back living with Ted?

  3. Gravity |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:32 am GMT -4

Robin sent the dogs to her relative’s farm in season two. She hasn’t had them for a while.

I think “Dinner is a baby” is my favorite line ever.

I have a sneaking suspician after the events of “Shelter Island” and now “Not a Father’s Day” that Robin and Ted may be on their way to another hook up. Whether it be a one-night Slapsgivings-style affair, or back to a full-blown relationship remains unsure to me, but I think these two aren’t quite done with each other yet. Which actually would make Barney’s storyline even more interesting.

The LAME baby situation puzzles me too. They’re not gonna have a baby, but Alyson is preggers, so is it fun camera angle and loose clothing time? I’m thankful for it actually, I think a kid screws with the show too much, though I loved everyone (including Barney’s) reaction to the sock.

  4. Calin |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:00 am GMT -4

i have a feeling lily gets ‘accidentally’ pregnant later in the show. how are they gonna hide it, seriously?

but great comic relief although there’s not much development in the plot, i was trying so hard not to laugh out loud while watching it in the office =D

  5. natsirt |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:00 am GMT -4

Pretty lack-luster episode in my opinion. I didn’t buy drunk baby Lily. It came off as forced and predictable. Barney was lame this week.

Best parts were the Marshall girl and creepy guy, the Dinner is a baby line, and I liked Barney’s initial recation to hearing he might be a father “We’ll be in touch.” Seeing Alyson in a nightie was enjoyable as well.

I agree something is going to happen with Ted and Robin. I’m not pleased about it. I want it to go away so we can focus on Ted not being a lame loser but becoming someone a woman might one day actually want to marry.

  6. Ally |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:08 am GMT -4

Wasn’t too crazy about drunk baby Lily, but the episode overall was fantastic! Ted and Robin stole the show. I agree with those above that “Dinner is a baby.” “Lily, that’s horrible!” was the joke of the night.

  7. Hee |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:17 am GMT -4

I enjoyed this episode, a lot. Although, the Barney stuff was pretty sitcommy and bad. I did kind of enjoy Broadway dancing and singing Barney, but I also kind of didn’t because (the dancing part) was a little too much for this show.
Some elements of the Lily and Marshall stuff was bad too. Baby Lily was good, but drunk horny Lily was kind of bad.

I loved Ted as a dad jokes!!
I liked the website, but I was disappointed that it has an alteria motive.

Also once again Robin is wearing a screaming amount of yellow. I believe she was wearing yellow in the scene with the baby with Ted? Remember back to Shelter Island the word baby was written in yellow in Japanese next to her? Put the pieces together, it’s all right there!

And I’m sorry, what? Are Marshall and Lily living in their vertical Dowisetrepla apartment already?? What is with all these dropped plot lines?!!

  8. Geri |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:23 am GMT -4

“I’m one scotch and soda away from the cantina scene in star wars” – best line in the episode!

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! It was a nice balance of funny and serious issues. I was a little perturbed that we didn’t get a Lily and Marshall move to DOWISTREPLA episode. I think they could have done some funny stuff there. Still, I understand they want to move the plot along.

I’m also not sure what they’re gonna do to hide Alyson’s pregnancy but I hope it’s not cheesy. Or maybe LAME will have an “accident”, but I doubt it.

Jason Segal holding that baby made my uterus do back-flips! *SIGH*
I love how everyone got all ga ga (pun intended!) over the baby sock. Yes I DO know what a pink sock is and YES it is gross! Thanks for putting that visual in my head JD!

Drunk Lily was hilarious – sexy and funny at the same time. Only Alyson can pull that off! Her breakfast time in china joke (hot buns, spicy pork…there’s something in there!) was classic HIMYM. Has anyone else here ever made their respective other “wish I hadn’t puked on your shirt bacon” after a long night of partying? lol!

I too checked the notafathersday.com website as soon as it was mentioned and I love the fact that it’s sponsored by GNB. The blue barney face on the pregnancy test is a bonus! Barney’s “what up” to God was pretty funny and the Cat Stevens karoke was ridiculous funny. We definitely know that one guy who uses Johnny Banana as a fake name, has NO chance of ever getting any woman pregnant. Not with THAT fake name!

What can I say about Robin? She’s back in full force and I couldn’t be happier! Cranky Robin is Legen – ok I won’t say it, but dammit I want to so I will – dary! Letting the baby sniff her was so awesome and her “bitch be drunk line” had me rolling on the floor. Ted and Robin’s banter is so great and it’s what I really missed in the show. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens with the two of them now living together. I think a lot of us are hoping for a hookup and if they do, they’ll have some material for a Robin, Ted, Barney love triangle. Robedney? Tobarney? Whatever!

  9. Kevin |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:26 am GMT -4

    @Calin
As I have mentioned in previous posts, pregnancies have been hidden before on major tv shows. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was pregnant during one season of Seinfeld, and Mariska Hargitay during a season of Law and Order SVU. I thought the clear difference here was going to be that it didn’t make sense for Elaine to get pregnant, but it made perfect sense for Lily.

Best line of the night by far:
C’mon, you know if one of my little michael phelps gets past that he’s going for the gold!

  10. JackAtak08 |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:50 am GMT -4

I didn’t think this episode was all too great. I was looking forward to a stand alone episode, but they still did one that advanced the plot and it wasn’t terribly funny like the rest are. Overall, just a decent episode.

  11. High Hoper |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:29 am GMT -4

Some good jokes, but this is really a 4-5/10 episode. Himym seems to have lost what it made of it the best sitcom nowadays. Where’s the romantic Ted on his quest for true love? Why it seemed in this episode that so many jokes were forced? And seriously, without Barney, the series would have fallen a LOT.

I really liked some things of this episode, really (what up to God from barney was AMAZING, for example), but really, after seeing this episode and knowing the spoilers for the episodes to come, I really think that this season is going to be worse than season 3, which was really under seasons 1 and 2.

Maybe this show doesn’t stand for 7-year duration and it should end this season instead of be on air forced. I really think this is the best sitcom I’ve ever watched, and I love it, but we had some episodes really BAD and I think, the more we get into the story, the worst it gets. Forced jokes, one-episode stories, trying to make the damned puzzle work where they have to fix what they told in past episodes…

Really I think this show is coming down now. Please, give it a good epic end instead of letting it fall apart. Please.

  12. Tash |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:46 am GMT -4

    To Gravity:
I totally wonder that too. I just hope it doesn’t play out like it did when Jane Leeves (Daphne) was pregnant in Frasier and they just played it off as her getting fat!
This episode was hilarious. I’ve found the past few episodes to go by really fast, but this one seemed like a good full episode.
LOVED the “dinner is a baby” “Lily, that’s horrible!”
I actually laughed and slapped my knee…

Question to anyone that can answer: Did the sock make Barney a into the idea of a Baby (at the end)? It worked on Robin….so is that what happened to him?

  13. OpenCasketForTheLadies |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:51 am GMT -4

I thought this episode to be average. Didn’t think it was great, didn’t think it was bad.

There was a lot of humor in it though, which really made me laugh.

Unfortunately, thanks to JD, I had to look up a “pink sock” on urban dictionary and for the love of god I wish I hadn’t.

Also notafathersday.com is pretty funny; i especially liked the greeting cards.

I do however hope they focus a bit more on Ted’s quest for the mother in the remainder of the season. That’s what it’s really all about. I mean i love watching all of the characters in this show but I kind of miss “romantic” Ted’s quest for true love.

  14. J |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:53 am GMT -4

    @ gravity

episode 11 is called benefits… as in possibly the friends with kind.

  15. Jeff |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 04:31 am GMT -4

    Continuity nit-picking time!

So Marshall Lily and Ted all went to Wesleyan (where Carter and Craig went). The diploma on the wall of Marshall’s apartment says “Ohio Wesleyan University” – a completely different school. Boo, background set builders! Boo I say!

  16. Dale Chumbley |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 04:42 am GMT -4

As always, wonderful recap and synopsis.

I agree completely about the NO MA’AM similarity. The minute I saw that I said exactly that to my wife. Totally made me flash back to the days of Al, Jefferson, Griff, Bob Rooney and the others.

The 10 Commandments of NO MA’AM:
    1. It is OK to call hooters ‘knockers’ and sometimes snack trays
    2. It is wrong to be French
    3. It is OK to put all bad people in a giant meat grinder
    4. Lawyers, see rule three
    5. It is OK to drive a gas-guzzler if it helps you get babes
    6. Everyone should car pool except us
    7. Bring back the word stewardesses
    8. Synchronized swimming is not a sport
    9. Mud wrestling is a sport

I do believe that Barney would agree with most (if not all) of these as well.

  17. Juan |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 05:02 am GMT -4

    “It’s breakfast time in China.”

    Hilarious!

  18. Marcy |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 05:30 am GMT -4

O.k, first of all, am I the only one who really wants to know exactely HOW Barney and Robin broke that ship in the bottle? I mean, come on, that look on their faces!

Anyhow, the episode was solid, but not above average. I´d give it 6 out of 10.

It was great to finally see LAME´s new home, Marshall at work and we got to know how Robin moved in with Ted. All this was awsome and combinded with some great gags.

BUT, honestly, I totally HATED baby Lily. In my opinion it was neither good nor funny, just annoying. Also, I do understand that Robin is having a rough time right now, but being this pissed off and mean towards LAME? I suppose it was just me, but it kind of seemed out of character (she is a cynical person, all right, but I didn´t expect that!).

On the other hand, I really enjoyed Barney this week, even though “Not A Father´s Day” is clearly not as awsome as Barney wanted it to be. Great continuity here by the way. We first saw Barnbey getting all excited about babies when James told him that he´s going to be an uncle (and I personally loved that side to him and was very happy it came back for a moment this episode) and now we have more or less the same reaction after seeing the sock. I tell you people, Barney is totally going to be a dad one day (and I hope that Robin is going to be the mum to his kids, but even if she won´t he´ll make a great dad. There´s potential in him!). And the karaoke at the end of the episode? Fantastic! Ted and Robin in the cab were also great! They still have some sort of chemistry that is hilarious (but not of the “let´s get back together” sort).

All in all, there were good moments and bad moments. As I said, a solid episode, but it could have been better.

P.S: I know this has been said a lot lately, but after re-watching parts of season 1 yesterday, I really have to say; when on earth did Cobie get so thin? She should eat something!

  19. Floris |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 07:03 am GMT -4

Yes. I am a happy HIMYM fan today.

Just watched the episode and it was awesome. I’m not that good in english so i keep my summary short. But this was a epsiode i loved.
It had all the great himym ingredients.
Many Flashbacks, more story lines. Barney ruled with not a farhers day. And a lot of funny jokes. And a new website notafathersday.com.
So now i am gonna right a summary for my site.
I hope HIMYM wil keep this level, and it will be a great season afterall

  20. Seanaus |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 08:18 am GMT -4

hey anyone else notice that during the part when robin says that maybe she’ll have babies when she is 70, that the same girl walks past twice in the green shirt. Funny hey.

  21. gael |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 09:33 am GMT -4

Anyone knows what’s the title of the song at the end?

  22. Hee |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 11:12 am GMT -4

    @ Higher Hope
I disagree with you. I loved Season 3 from start to finish.

  23. Nick |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 11:43 am GMT -4

For me, this was the best episode of the season so far. It combined all of the aspects that we love about the show: flashbacks, serious issues, great comedic phrases, and Barney!!!

I personally like the fact that LAME is all moved into their apartment. It helps move the show forward. I also think that LAME will accidently get pregnant when Alyson starts showing.

Rumor has it that later on in the season Barney gets upset because Robin and Ted “hook” up again. That should be interesting. As for now, I hope that the show can coninue to play off this episode. Keeping at the same awesomeness level or higher.

I can’t wait for next week!!!

  24. roland |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 11:46 am GMT -4

They should’ve stuck with the title “Jeremy’s Sock”, I think its more appropriate since it ties all of them together at the end, not “not a father’s day”. I will always think of this episode as Jeremy’s Sock! It was able to melt even ice queen Robin!

  25. Mandy |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:16 pm GMT -4

I just read that Heidi and Spencer from the Hills are going to appear on an episode in January. WHY??!! Ugh.

  26. Promethia |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:23 pm GMT -4

@Hee: I, too have noticed all of Robin’s yellow this season. She’s worn it, I’m pretty sure, at least once an episode, including some very important scenes: her “date” with Barney in the premier, her announcement that she is moving to Japan, her waffling in “Intervention,” the flash-forward to a year later . . . I’m going with the idea that yellow is a symbol both of joy/optimism/new beginnings and of cowardice. Robin’s life is in such upheaval, and I think the yellow reflects her state of mind.

Agreed with everyone here that the “dinner is a baby” joke was awesome. It reminded me both in its delivery and in its wonderful inappropriateness of the “Barney, you want my XBox?” joke from last season. And since the XBox joke is my former favorite HIMYM joke of all time, the baby dinner joke is my new co-favorite HIMYM joke of all time.

  27. Promethia |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:28 pm GMT -4

And another thing . . . I like how all the cooing over the sock hearkens back to Robin’s bewildered assessment of babies from “Little Boys”: “I mean, it’s cute that their shoes are real tiny, but other than that, what’s the appeal?”

  28. Tim |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:35 pm GMT -4

I am not sure if anyone mentioned this, but HIMYM has yet again brought in another 80′s TV dad in Dan Lauria.

Always good to see him, though he will always be Mr. Arnold to me.

  29. AF |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:42 pm GMT -4

    I enjoyed this episode a lot :)

I liked that the focus was on LAME and it’ll be interesting to see if they choose to work with Alyson’s pregnancy or not. I know at the end of this one it seemed like it won’t happen but they could have desperate, horny sex somewhere and feel like risking it.

I loved the Cheerleader Effect. They really made that work in both cases.

    Loved Barney in church

Loved the Ice Queen line :)

Brava HIMYM! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

  30. Courtney |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 12:46 pm GMT -4

I felt like the end was pointing to an accidental pregnancy. I mean, obviously it wouldn’t be unheard of for Alison to rock big coats and hide behind tables, but the way they made that decision to wait, I felt like at any second that Saget was going to come in and say “what they didn’t know was that Aunt Lily was already pregnant.”

I too feel like Ted and Robin are going to hook up, and it will definitely further the BRo (I’m sticking with it too) plotline, but sad Barney makes me so sad I’m not sure I can handle it.

  31. Hee |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 01:58 pm GMT -4

@ Promethia there has been a lot of yellow this season and the end of last season, however the color that Robin wears most consistently throughout the whole series is green. It is a rare outfit indeed that doesn’t contain either green, blue or yellow (and quite often all three). I wish I knew why.

Also, could people please not post spoilers and rumors in their comments.

  32. OpenCasketForTheLadies |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:36 pm GMT -4

One of the great things about this series is that after any given episode, any given fan will either think the episode was unreal, average, or unimpressive. Carter and Bays have done a great job of making the show appeal to everyone.

Also I have noticed Robin’s wardrobe being very yellow this season. I read an interview with Craig Thomas, and he stated that robin is not the mother, however she plays a part in the eventual meeting.

Is it safe to say that any yellow helps lead him to the mother (umbrella, stella’s place, the picture/letter on the wall at stella’s and behind the kids, robin…)?

  33. Brynne |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:38 pm GMT -4

    Hilarious.

  34. Brynne |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 02:40 pm GMT -4

    Ugh, obviously I meant “notafathersday.com”!

  35. Tyler B |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 03:40 pm GMT -4

I thought last night’s ep was a return to form after last week’s lackluster show. I wasn’t quite as big a fan of Baby Lily than some, but all the characters shined and Marshall seemed more like himself. Bravo.

  36. Chrissy |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 04:14 pm GMT -4

I loved the episode. It was the best since ‘Intervention’. I liked pretty much everything. Even the story was perfect.

I also think what many of you have already pointed out to. It seems more than obvious to me that Ted and Robin hook up again, though Robin doesn’t know about Barney’s feelings for her. Her speech in ‘Shelter Island’ gave another good reason to believe that.
I sure could imagine Lily getting pregnant by accident. ‘Let’s have protected sex’ is way too obvious. I’d like to refer to Friends’ Ross and Rachel…

  37. OpenCasketForTheLadies |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 05:14 pm GMT -4

    @Gael

The song Barney sings at the end is Cat’s in the cradle by harry chapin

  38. daaan |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 06:08 pm GMT -4

i loooved the episode, and drunk lily rocked! barney being the usual playboy type but now taking it far by actually creating a holiday.
definitely the liner was: dinner is a baby. LILY, THAT’S HORRIBLE! hahaha
i also loooved the marshall being an ugly girl hitting on marshall and marshall being an old pathetic guy. the beginning with barney’s reaction to the pregnancy scare was great, and overall, i loved the episode!
im interested to see how alyson’s pregnancy plays out, a surprise pregnancy would be the obvious answer, but i get the feeling craig and carter will surprise us.

  39. ashlee |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 06:47 pm GMT -4

i really liked this ep. Barney in the church (god, its me, barney. What up?) made me laugh really hard!!

marshall as a creepy guy and really ugly girl was funny and so was the fact that Marshall and lily thought she was cute :)

everyone smiling at Jeremy’s sock was great

i love how every website himym mentions is real – notafathersday.com is really funny, esp. the postcards and how it is sponsored by goliath national bank.

i too wonder how they’re gonna work with with alyson’s pregnancy.

this episode explains how robin moves in with ted (the goat), and shows that lame are in dowisetrepla, so it does somewhat move the plot forward.

we also got a new kind of 5 this episode- Wordplay 5!

i love how barney answers his phone too, JD!

Barney’s Michael Phelps reference was hilarious!

I am curious at what barney was never ever ever gonna do again too.

i thought when marshall shook his head no and then yes on the phone and then lily actually knew what he was doing was funny and shows how good together they are

“the breakfast in china” joke was soooo funny

i wonder how robin and barney broke the ship in a bottle too…

robin and ted had awesome jokes (the brain freeze one!), and robin being afraid of babies was hilarious, especially the talking baby commercial because we all know we’ve seen it :)

The Fraternity of Non-paternity was awesome! so was the scotch baptism!

i’m going on and on, so i’ll stop now… just shows you how many great jokes were in this ep!

  40. James |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 07:12 pm GMT -4

New to commenting on the blog but…

isn’t anyone wondering how the merger went?!?! Was Marshall able to impress the Chinese partners? Also, since Allyson Hannigan hasn’t started to show yet (I’m pretty sure), I doubt the writers would want to have Lily pregnant. Most shows don’t want/can’t write a 9 month pregnancy from start to finish into a season. They just skip ahead to the important parts like 1) when the woman first starts showing and 2) when the baby is born. I think that’s how HIMYM will handle it.

  41. Mothership |  Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 11:06 pm GMT -4

Kim Kardashian WTF? WOW you are that mad?

    Hope I don’t spill the beans…..the Lima beans…..

  42. Wolfgang Returns |  Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 07:03 am GMT -4

    Hi!

I think there’s a problem with the guys’ apartments… We’ve not clearly viewed when Marshall and Lily moved to their new apartment, and -maybe it’s my lack of brain xD- I don’t know exactly if Ted is still living in the ‘main apartment’ (which we have been watching along 3 and a almost a half seasons). Ted’s free room? Is it refer to Marshall and Lily now free room on the tree guys apartment?.
    I believe I’m a mess…

Barney in church? legen-wait for it…. DARY! Also, I miss the old catchpharses, he should still say “Suit up!” every once in a while ;)

And I think the ep should have been named Jeremy’s sock. :D

    @Wolfgan Returns

Marshall and Lily moved into Dowisetrepla (their new place) after the events in Intervention when the gang decided they all had to move forward.

Now the apartment above MacLaren’s is all Ted. With Lily and Marshall’s old bedroom now vacant, he has a ‘spare room’ for Robin to move into. Robin presumably gave up the lease on her apartment in Brooklyn when she moved to Japan.

    Hope that helped!

clearly robin and ted are not done with each other , on the description of episode 11 Benefits :

“Marshall finds out the downside of his new job, Lily helps Barney work out rage issues, and there’s something in the air around Ted and Robin ”

I dont like that idea at all , i wanna see more of barney and robin 2getehr
and i wanna see ted searching for the mother

lame were awesome this episode but barney’s holiday was not working for me

I just noticed that in http://www.notafathersday.com/, the site has a FOX favicon. Anyone noticed that? What is that supposed to mean?

  49. JD |  Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 08:20 pm GMT -4

Well, HIMYM is owned by Fox so that might have something to do with it… :)

pretty awesome episode, need to say a few things tho, haha.

Lily mentions that she hated robin when she first met her becuz she’s hot, didn’t they first meet in “purple girafe” and got along hence y they hung out at the party in that episode?

i have a prediction and just wonder what everyone else thinks, marhall and lily live next to the sewage treatment plant and marshalls dream is to save the enviroment, has anyone predicted that marshall helps shut down the plant for air pollution and makes his neighborhood a better place? just curious what every1 else thinks.

Episode-wise i think it settles a lot of the plot that everyone seems to think was missing, we know where robin lives n that she isn’t a news anchor no more, we know LAME moved into their new apartment, and we know that LAME is thinking of havin a kid. many great moments in this episode and now i think everyones curious where things are going now, maybe lily being pregnant will be the season ending cliff-hanger they leave us with every season, haha. Having said that this has been a pretty great season so far, i really hope some more slaps happen sometime soon tho

First of all, this episode was pretty satisfying.

By far the best thing about this episode was ROBIN.First, her conversation with Marshall at the begining, then awesome flashback of her and the babies. I can watch robin leting a baby sniff her hand for hours:) her body reaction was hilarious. After that, the stain thing in the cab. I’m so glad that Robin is BACK! I love her.

i think this episode was the best of season 4.

and i m pretty sure that Jason Segel and his hair have both become gainers!!! Somebody stop them!!

Thx for this amazing site by the way. Great Work!

    Greetings from Turkey!

Anybody else think that Robin TIVOing The View is a little bit our of character?

    *out

Did anyone notice that when Barney was in the church there was a funeral going on? When the camera shows all the other churchgoers, to the left you see the coffin. That just makes it extra funny to me.

Tim: I don’t think Robin TiVoing the View was out of character, because this is the kind of crap people get reduced to when they’re unemployed. You sit there and watch TV that you’d never consider watching in your normal life. She’s clearly at a low point right now.

Also, to those of you hypothesising about the use of yellow in Robin’s wardrobe– I don’t think it symbolises anything other than the fact that yellow is in this season, and Cobie Smulders looks good in it.

guys… really… best of season 4? Are you serious?

Do I have to remember how GOOD this show was (and is nowadays just in random episodes)?

Can you compare really Jeremy`s sock to Nothing good ever happens after 2am, come on, drumroll please or even shelter island? I really don’t think so.

I hope they don’t screw up the best sitcom nowadays, and my favourite, but the general idea from every people I know who watches the show is that they’re running out of the magic that made this sitcom THE BEST ONE nowadays. Remember the funny unforced jokes of the beginning, the good storylines, the changes in every episode… I think that in season 4 (and in some episodes of season 3) they have to make X jokes per episode, and they fill them until they reach X. I really don’t like it. If nothing good ever happens would have to be emited nowadays, they probably want to insert some joke at the end…

Please, carter and bays, remember what made your sitcom THE BEST.

plain old cotton socks are still the best for babies….
