Casting News: Frances Conroy to play Mrs. Stinson

Oh wow, I’m so excited about this. In the upcoming episode “The Stinson’s” Barney’s mom will come to town to visit her son. Seen only from the shoulders down in Barney flashbacks, this will be the first appearance of Mrs. Stinson on the show. In a stroke of what might be the most legendary casting ever Barney’s mom will be played by Frances Conroy.
I loved Conroy on Six Feet Under. She has a maternal warmth beneath headstrong individualism that really dominates the characters she plays. I think she’s perfectly suited for comedy as well. This is just awesome.
Here’s the premise of the episode, via TVGuide who broke the news:
Conroy will appear on the CBS hitcom’s 15th episode of the season, “The Stinsons,” in which the gang discovers that Barney has a fake wife-and-kid on call should his mother ever come to town.
Sure enough, an occasion presents itself where Barney has to produce his “family,” and it’s Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle‘s Brooke D’Orsay fulfilling the wifely duties.
I’ve never seen the Harold & Kumar movies but this Brooke lady looks like the kind of girl that Barney would get to pretend to be his wife.

Brooke D'Orsay is Canadian, which already makes her awesome. She's only been on another CBS monday sitcom, the ever-popular "Big Bang Theory". She played Christy, Penny's slutty friend from Omaha in season one.

Interesting, but kind of annoyed. I'd been hopeful that Barney's mom would be played by Megan Mullally, considering it's been her voice….

Frances Conroy seems so squeaky clean and classy to me. She was like the moral compass on Six Feet Under. I just can't see her as Barney's mother.

Okay, awesome! Ruth Fisher was my favorite SFU character. She's an incredible actress and I can't wait. (she was also in The Wicker Man, which is in my top five favorite awful movies ever).

The premise of this episode has me drooling with "WANT TO SEE IT" vybe. Barney with a wife and kid? ROFL. NPH will have to bring his A+ game to this one.
