How I Met Your Mother Season 5 Premiere Date Announced
How’s everyone’s summer going so far? Good I hope.
CBS has confirmed that How I Met Your Mother season 5 will premiere on September 21st at 8pm. (via TVGuide)
In other news, reader Lara-Jane tells me that C4/ e4 in the UK is rumored to be purchasing rights to show the first four seasons of the show. She says:
It’s expected that C4 / e4 might do something of a double with The Big Bang Theory like CBS do as that show has been a success for them. C4 have a great record with US shows (Friends, Fraisier, Will and Grace, My Name is Earl, Big Bang Theory, Scrubs, Sex and the City, Dawson’s Creek, Desperate Housewives, Six Feet Under, The Soprano’s to name just a few!). Hopefully they will start showing it soon as e4’s big homegrown shows (Skins and The Inbetweeners) aren’t back until January at the earliest and Big Bang Theory and a few others just finished their new runs.
This is good news for UK HIMYM fans as there hasn’t been a good way to see the shows before unless you go online.

Actually, HIMYM is shown on Trouble in the UK. It's on Sky (the equivilant of an American having cable I guess). The BBC also had rights to show the seasons marathon style (like 5 a night) for cheap and have done so a couple times, the same way they have for other American comedies, like Arrested Development.
It's not as big as it could be, and Channel 4 and e4 certainly know how to make a big deal of sitcoms but you don't have to go online to see it; it is available.
Anyway, can't wait for September!

Hope you are having a good summer too, JD. Mine's kinda busy now.
I promised myself not to read any single spoiler from here to end of the series, in order to have the "surprise element", instead of knowing everything I can before the episode's on.
That does not mean I'll stop writing

I know Trouble showed the first two series a few times but that channel doesn't exist anymore (replaced in the Sky EPG by more Living channels) and Living itself has shown at least series one.
Sadly the BBC never really gave it a good chance, putting it on at 7.30pm on a Sunday evening against Coronation Street which is one of the most watched shows in the UK. It was always the wrong channel for such a great show and imo it would have been better on C4 / e4 or maybe FIVE from the off. If more people discover the awesomeness of this show over here then it's great even if we're a few years behind where we should be with promotion of the show over here.

Yeah, I totally agree it hasn't been given enough of a chance. Not had Sky for a year (good old credit crunch means digger murdoch ain't getting my hard earned student loan) so I never knew Trouble no longer existed, my bad. HIMYM has done pretty well in not dating the show so if it started again with a big push, I think it could be more successful than minor failures like the past couple comedy-based shows channel 4 have picked up (spending a huge amount on Studio 60 and The Class only to get cancelled etc.). The show should have been treated as the proper successor to Friends and while it's never going to get that sort of following, there is no reason that proper marketing and that heralded 9pm on a Friday slot might do some magic.

If C4/E4 take this this. This sitcom will blow up and everyone will realise how awesome this is. UK fans, including me will be crazy about this.
They should have got it when Friends finished.
I really hope this is true.

ITS TRUE !

This is fantastic news that it looks like the show will be on C4 and/or E4. Even if its just on E4 that will help take it on to a wider audience. You've just got to look at how something like Scrubs which, while already fairly popular from its time on Sky One, has really kicked on through daily showings on E4 and other than Friends is arguably the most popular US sitcom in the UK now. Other programmes like Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill have developed decent followings too through endless repeats, and in the case of the former that has just been with daytime showings.
With that said How I Met Your Mother is more than capable of doing well on Channel 4, as Sam said with proper marketing it could do pretty well on the channel's Friday night line-up. The ingredients are there. It is accessible enough to appeal to casual television watchers, but is also as we all know fantastically written and performed to get followers of British sitcoms like The Office and Peep Show that might have previously viewed most American sitcoms poorly.

Glad to see a post JD. I've been checking every day. Great news that HIMYM is continuing to be globalized

Great to read a post! Now all we have to do is wait for the Emmy Nominations. If HIMYM doesn't get one, I'll eat my top hat. Or a pineapple, for comfort.

have you seen this?
Hiding a pregnancy on network tv
pretty funny
Nitz the Bloody | July 8, 2009 @ 8:52 pm
All those screencaps of the valiant but failed attempts to hide the pregnancies, and they didn't include the stroke of genius that was Lily's hot-dog-eating-contest? Bah!

Official confirmation on Digital Spy that HIMYM will commence on e4 initially (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/a164465/... sometime soon.
Excellent news with it being a very popular digital channel with it being available for free on Freeview and not just on pay-tv platforms like Sky.
I think I might quit watching the DVDs etc… until it starts airing over here so it has a fresher feel, hopefully I can convert some more people to the show now (I've been with it since day 1).
