RoBarn = Best Couple?
By JD

BuddyTv posted a poll for the best TV couple of 2008. The list seems odd to me since a few of the couples aren’t really couples (like Barney and Robin.) I would actually go against my HIMYM devotion and vote for Chuck and Sara since after that holiday episode I really think they’re wonderful.

Who’ll you vote for? It would seem, if the Google image search I ran for an image for this post is to be believed, that many of you out there are big fans of these two.

Well, in my opinion Barney isn0t the kind of character that is into a relation, despite he being in love with Robin. I go for Ted and Robin, they're great together. I think Barney must keep doing his "stuff" to meet other girls, thats what i think is one of the most funny parts of HIMYM.
So, Ted and Robin all the way!

Barney getting into a relationship will kill the barney that we love. His randy ways are what makes HIMYM so great! Imagine if he becomes a little whiny bitch like Ted.
I just hope that the yellow umbrella girl is more awesome than Robin.
(Which isnt gonna happen!)

Your top screencap makes Barney look like he did when he was pretending to be almost blind in "The Bracket"

I gotta go with Jim and Pam. They were made for eachother right?

RoBarn is an unusual couple in tv. Normally, they are very different, and that is those differences that make them together a good thing. It is true for Chuck and Sara(h?), Ross and Rachel, …
There, you have two very similar persons, afraid of commitments, that have a lot of things in common. That's maybe why there is a certain chemistry between the two of them, and that's why we can see them as a couple although it would be an impossible one in most of the shows.
Chuck and Sara is a nice couple, but I ain't really a big fan, since it's always on and off again and I tend to be a little bored of this string in every show.
For an unusual couple, I would go with Dexter and Rita, mainly because I'm a fan of this weird relationship unbased on truth and trust.
But the most romantic one is surely Chuck and Ned in Pushing Daisies. The untouchable love and the ways to pass through it is amazing. And both actors really show that.

I agree with KJO. Jim and Pam are the best couple on TV in a while.

The best couple on television? Well, that might be a stretch, especially since they aren't really a couple yet.
That being said, I've been excited about the possibility of Barney and Robin together ever since "Zip Zip Zip" during the first season. In some ways, it plays into how well characterized Barney is. He should be the most one dimensional character in the group. He's the ladykiller, the womanizer, the cad. We've seen him on virtually every sitcom. But then we got his back story, his brother, etc. Add in NPH's amazing performance, and Barney transcends the stereotype.
The idea of Barney and Robin is actually born, for me, in his heartfelt apology at the end of "The Bracket." Understanding why Barney chases women, what he's really after, makes his feelings for Robin that much more understandable.
I would hate to see Barney defanged and unfunny, of course. But I'd also hate to see Barney in season 7 (presuming we get that far) exactly like Barney in season 1. I
I mean if the writers can't find a way to make Barney funny in a relationship — and come on, we all knew that day had to come — what hope is there for the rest of us?

Best? Probably not. Most interesting, maybe. I think that it would open up a real dynamic in both of their characters, because they are so similar in many ways, with Barney possibly easing his womanizing just a tiny bit, or maybe Robin steps up her manizing (is that a word?) to match Barney.
Also, I think Barbin is better than Robarn.

Wow, this is an amazing site. I love it. I've been a big HIMYM fan for years and I've caused each one of my friends to fall in love with the show. I'm so glad that a site like this exists. Keep up the great work.
Your new fan,

Marshall and Lily are the best couple on TV, followed by Chuck and Sarah. That said, I'm hugely pro-BRo, but you're right, they're not a couple. When they are, they will be amazing and the best. But let's not jump the gun just yet here.

I would love to see Barney and Robin ending up together, but maybe at the end of the show, just a mention of it, it would make sense, they are a great couple!!
But Barney needs to stays as the Barney we love, for the show to be alive and kicking, so let's hope for a great finale one day

What Courtney said: Marshall and Lily, hands down.
Robin and Barney would make a great couple, but I can't see Barney settling down anytime soon.

I love the idea of Robin and Barney together but not in the sense that they'd be a typical couple like Marshall and Lily or Ted and Robin. I'm not quite sure what I envision yet for them but I do like their chemistry. Also, I don't think that Barney would have to lose his humor to date Robin either.

I really really want Barney & Robin to be together… but I also don't want either of them to lose themselves in each other… I hope the writers deal with it well… but by the end of the series, I hope that Bob Saget is saying that Uncle Barney & Aunt Robin end up together… because I really believe that they are perfect for each other… but I do think that Barney & Robin will both have to search their souls before they are ready to really be with each other… and I don't think, even if they do decide to be with other monogamous, that it will mean the end of their personalites… but I do think the writers have to be careful how they deal with the whole thing… it won't be able to happen immediately… it will have to be something that they ease into – maybe even over a year or two… but that will just make it all the more satisfying, IMO, when it finally happens for good.

Oh can I also mention one more thing? Everytime I watch that scene (and see the screencap posted above), I think – OMG, Neil is obviously an incredibly GREAT kisser… da-amn (that's a two syllable damn, folks)! His boyfriend is SO lucky… humina humina humina.

Here goes the video that got me thinking about this possibility!

Nininha,
I think you're right. I believe this was mentioned somewhere in a commentary or something. Now will we learn that Robin also used to be a cast member of You Can't Do That On Television?
