Season 4, Episode 22: Right Place Right Time Preview

Tonight marks the third-to-last episode this season. I know some of you have been chortling about the promo in the comments but I haven’t read those because I don’t think promos should even be watched, let alone discussed. Any “drama” they hint at is done so for a reason, and is probably out of context for the episode. So if you are comfortable tying on strings for the marketing department to pull, feel free. I just choose to be a real boy. But I digress.

TV.com says that tonight:

Ted explains to his future kids how a chance encounter with a former girlfriend changed his life. Barney makes the 200th notch in his bedpost.

200, eh? Not bad for the Barnicle. Who will the lucky lady be? What run-in will Ted have with his ex. What ex will it be?

Come back and comment here before I post the recap tonight or tomorrow.

    VICTORIA……?

  2. High Hoper |  Monday, May 4th, 2009 10:47 pm GMT -4

I think, the time they decide to bring back Victoria, they're not gonna tell anyone. It's gotta be an enormous surprise that nobody's waiting for.

  3. Pizzaboy |  Monday, May 4th, 2009 11:31 pm GMT -4

I would also like it to be Victoria. She was so awesome!

  4. kevin  |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:47 am GMT -4

Barney's line, "the highest of fives" was in the extra scenes for Role Models..I believe the King of Cazedonia says it….interesting. coincidence? Either way, so far this episode is great!

  5. John |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:55 am GMT -4

Can you believe it was Stella?

  6. Gravity |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:56 am GMT -4

WHAT IN HOLY HELL JUST HAPPENED

  7. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:56 am GMT -4

    Stella…. I am so disappointed…. of all the characters… :(

Stupid stupid Stella. We know she isn't the mother because of the ending of the wedding episode. The episode was a huge tease.

    Ugh.

I was really really hoping for a random Mother citing. Or VICTORIA. Good ol Victoria… how I would have loved it to be you.

  8. Jfelix  |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:56 am GMT -4

what the hell, i am so upset about this episode.

  9. vivien |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:56 am GMT -4

STELLAAAAA!?!?!?!?! URGH SERIOUSLY!?!???! It was such a great episode till then….Marshall's charts, the call back to the fish jokes? intervention? Awesome. Stella was a big disappointment.

  10. Pizzaboy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 12:58 am GMT -4

Argh! I gotta stop reading this right before the show is on! I hate being west coast. Time zones are not my friends anymore!

  11. aaron5425 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:00 am GMT -4

    STELLA!!! whaaaattttttt
all of that just to see her?? That was a rip. oh well it was well written, guess i've got to wait another week.

  12. jesse-nyc |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:01 am GMT -4

i thought the mother also had a yellow umbrella.

  13. John Darc |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:02 am GMT -4

Ha, Intervention callback, as well as an Old King Clancy callback. At least he didn't bother naming the fish this time.

  14. Sara |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:02 am GMT -4

I wish it wasn't Stella either!! It was a very nice episode with a good lead-up but a disappointing ending. I agree, Victoria would have been a better surprise. You know they probably won't reveal the mother until the last episode, so I'm glad they're dragging things out (I don't want the series to end!). The question now is, how will Stella lead to the mom?

  15. aaron5425 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:02 am GMT -4

stella obviously has some role in taking ted's umbrella and ultimately giving it to the mother, but we'll probably have to wait 3 more seasons for that

  16. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:03 am GMT -4

Okay I'm back…. now that I have come to terms with my anger about Stella.

I really loved Barney's defeat of the list topper, especially because Robin caused it (sort of). Haha. I am very very glad they addressed the BRo issue. Barney has no reason to be a player anymore.. now he can settle down!

Awesomeness – Intervention callback, Marshall's sign addcition, Narrator Ted speaking about the Fate of where life takes you. ACTUALLY SEEING THE KIDS!!!

I still miss Wendy, Ranjit, and Carl…. come back my loves.

  17. aaron5425 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:05 am GMT -4

    umm guys… where was lily??

  18. JackAtak08 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:06 am GMT -4

    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Elizabeth |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:07 am GMT -4

Ugh, I am glad to know I wasn't the only one who was disappointed with Stella! I literally starting shouting NOOOOOO. I too was hoping it was Victoria.

    I miss Lily.

  20. YankeeGirl |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:09 am GMT -4

    LOVE. THIS. EPISODE.
    the whole chart obsession/intervention? classic.
however, when ted was meeting with the cowboys, i so wish they would of panned down to his red cowboy boots. I know they were just in the last episode, but come on, can you really get enough?!
    however, i miss lily.

  21. para04 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:10 am GMT -4

Lily isn't in episodes because of her baby. So Stella isn't the mom, then not worth showing her.

  22. George |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:11 am GMT -4

That's stupid!!!!! No one uses cardboard charts anymore, that's what Powerpoint is for.

  23. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:11 am GMT -4

The mother lost her yellow umbrella at the ST Pattys Day party, Ted got it the next day when he went back to look for his cell phone. I'm was expecting it to be the original owner of the umbrella asking him for it back. Thus it would have been the mother.

  24. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:13 am GMT -4

She doesn't see them for 4 weeks remember. :) Because of the joke. She'll be back for the end of the season.

  25. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:13 am GMT -4

I was so disappointed I almost didn't wait to see the end… luckily I did, BRo romance lifted my spirits. But I WAS SO PISSED

  26. Bob |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:14 am GMT -4

I am extremely disappointed by this episode, the story wasn't coherent enough for me. It just felt like everything was thrown int there just to make the meeting with Stella happen, it didn't have any natural flow at all. I liked that they threw in so much from the previous season, like intervention, Marshall liking fish jokes, but all those things felt too much. There was too much going on and too much that didn't fit together well. And anyone think that they just used all the storylines just to draw out the episode so we can have the "big" Stella reveal at the end?

  27. Ari |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:14 am GMT -4

That's what I was hoping for too. I was NOT wanting it to be Stella. What a waste of time.

  28. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:14 am GMT -4

Hahah, that would have been great! GCWOK approved. ;)

  29. aaron5425 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:14 am GMT -4

yea after i wrote it i realized my oversight, still it sucks to not have her for the last three episodes. I didn't miss her at all last week, but this episode it was more noticeable.

i hope she makes it back for the finale. oh and the robin baby spoof was pretty good.

  30. curiousillusion |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:15 am GMT -4

Wait, remind me again, how do we know Stella isn't the mother?

  31. Bob |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:16 am GMT -4

I hope the mother isn't Stella….we had somewhat of a closure at when Ted saw her with her family it be a waste.

P.s. are the scenes with the kids just reused old scenes? I mean they must have grown somewhat right?

  32. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:17 am GMT -4

I know.. The only thing making me feel better is that everyone else hated it too!

  33. Katie |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:17 am GMT -4

I loved the episode, but I'm so freaking sick of Stella that when she appeared on the screen, all I could do was groan. gah.

  34. jesse-nyc |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:18 am GMT -4

    gotcha! Thanks Amy!

  35. Amanda |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:20 am GMT -4

Oh boy! Like many here, I was absolutely hoping for Victoria. Then they showed her and at first I thought it was one of the Olsen twins! Haha. I freaked out for a moment and had to rewind it. Boo Stella.
Total tease with the yellow umbrella at the beginning. I thought that might amount to something.
LOVE the intervention callback as well.
And what happened to Petra? Did I miss something or did they not tell us what happened with her and Barney's date?

  36. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:20 am GMT -4

Haha. Lily will be back. They taped the season finale early before the girls got too huge to handle. Or at least that's what they said.

  37. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:20 am GMT -4

I still can't believe it was Stella… I thought they were bringing back popular characters this season (i.e. Victoria, Barney's Brother, Carl, etc).

  38. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:21 am GMT -4

The writers and producers said they taped a lot of scenes with the kids in earlier seasons. They shot reactions and chatting so work with the rest of the seasons.

  39. Ari |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:25 am GMT -4

Do you think the writers knew what they were doing though? I mean, they had to know that they when wrote Stella off, they destroyed her character and made most fans stop liking her for Ted. So maybe they brought her back… for a reason? I really hope they know us better than to think that we would want her to get back with Ted. Maybe that's not what they're planning, maybe she'll lead Ted in the right direction?

I have to think that's what is going to happen. Because I will not be happy if they get back together. At all. I've never been mad at the show before and I don't want to start now!

  40. Sara |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:30 am GMT -4

I agree! Though sometimes it's just easier to use cardboard charts when you just have a few of them – instead of going through the trouble of setting up a computer and projector, etc. for a Powerpoint with only a few slides.

  41. Bob |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:32 am GMT -4

thanks I didn't know that. but I kinda want new scenes. I'm sure they'll need different reactions/new ones in the future and they'll have to record them and the kids will have a sudden growth spurt which might be weird. But I'm sure they'll play it off and have fun with it.

  42. Ari |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:34 am GMT -4

Just had to add (man I never post a comment on this site and today I can't shut up): saw this on Watch With Kristin:
"…we've been holding back from revealing tonight's surprise return to HIMYM by a girl that we love. To make it up to you, we'll reveal now that by the end of the season we will know for sure if she is the mother (or not). Check back later this week from more from the lady in question!"

That makes me worried b/c I thought we already knew she wasn't the mother…

  43. arabella |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:43 am GMT -4

this is random. like super random. but barney has been going tie-less lately. wonder if that means something?

  44. jen209 |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:51 am GMT -4

Okay, everyone obviously hates Stella, and I don't disagree. Well, at least I never thought she was the mother, and was glad when they broke up. But I have to point out here that I think Ted really learned something from his relationship with Stella, but he hasn't really come to terms with it. I think she is coming back so he can figure out what his lesson was, and be one step closer to being emotionally ready to meet the mother.

  45. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:54 am GMT -4

Plus… who loves her…. NOT me.

  46. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:56 am GMT -4

Whatever, I know it will have some deeper meaning… but I would rather have deeper meaning with someone like Victoria….

We had our Stella closure…. the whole seeing the family together… wasn't that enough. UGH. Plus if I were Stella I wouldn't tap the shoulder to get the attention of the Man I left at the alter…. evil…

  47. Courtney |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:58 am GMT -4

Okay, someone else had to be a little stoked when they saw Stella. Right? Anyone? COME ON. Besides. She's not the mother. She's just going to guide him to the mother in some way. Maybe she has a good friend that she wants to set Ted up with. One who just got back from a baking fellowship in Germany.

  48. Courtney |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 01:59 am GMT -4

OH and the end with Barney and Robin? Heart-wait for it-warming (sorry, I couldn't wait).

  49. Kimberly |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 02:19 am GMT -4

I really thought we were done with Stella on HIMYM. She never clicked for so many viewers. When we saw her tonight, we groaned and sighed * the show is a lot less compelling to all of us (there are about 20 of us who watch it together every week). The episode was great * right until Stella appeared. And you'll note, even before she dumped Ted at the alter, none of his friends were seeing much connection between them either. Please * she can't be the mother! We've all be rooting for a return of Victoria, cupcake girl, because her chemistry with Ted was magical and believable. Please, please implore Carter Bays to consider her as the mother.

  50. Kimberly |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 02:20 am GMT -4

    I wish – I loved Ted's chemistry with Victoria!

  51. George |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 02:23 am GMT -4

Good point, but in that case wouldn't printing handouts be faster and less of a hassle? Besides meeting rooms nowadays should have that kind of stuff installed already. For a big company, the GNB meeting room looks like crap.

  52. TimK |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 02:32 am GMT -4

Stella won't be the mother, but she could know who's umbrella Ted has. So, she might serve to lead Ted to the mother.

Either way, the final reveal of Stella was just annoying. She is a terrible character that never clicked (as noted by a poster above). It's a shame they brought her back.

  53. too much free time |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 02:48 am GMT -4

    BEST EPISODE EVER!!!

  54. too much free time |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 02:54 am GMT -4

Also, I love young Barney. First a hippie, now a D&D kid. But didn't he lose his virginity late in life and just tell people it was early?

  55. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 03:02 am GMT -4

Even if someone knew who the umbrella belonged to it didn't have to be Stella…. The writer's got our hopes up for the return of a loved character and then failed.

When Ted dumped Stella (before the car accident I was so relieved), and every episode after that was me waiting for them to be done. I was so annoyed when he proposed, frustrated when nothing happened after the intervention reveal… AND so totally happy when she finally left him at the Alter.

Having the girl be Stella was the most disappointing moment I have ever experienced with this show… ::sigh:: Never have I been so sad

  56. Leigh |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 03:14 am GMT -4

I think they might be referring to Sarah Chalke, not Stella. The cast & crew all loved her.

  57. JustinDickinson |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 03:37 am GMT -4

They've got a bunch of stuff with the kids shot that we'll see eventually. So it'll be new, but the kids will still be young.

  58. Amy |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 03:55 am GMT -4

I feel like I have been really hating….

Overall I loved the episode, minus the Stella reveal everything else was perfect.

JD JD JD please give us your opinion.

  59. Liz |  Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 04:00 am GMT -4

I really doubt that Stella is the mother. The mother is probably going to be one of her friends. Maybe the mother went to the St. Patrick's Day party with her? If anyone here still watches Scrubs, ABC is airing the two final eps on Tuesday and Wednesday. I really like Sarah Chalke but I don't like Stella. Or Elliot after season 4, but that's another show entirely.

I loved Marshall's Cecilia chart. And now that Barney has that 200th conquest secured, he can move on to more important things, i.e. Robin.

where can i find subtitles for this episode? please gimme the link

  62. Beth |  Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 06:05 pm GMT -4

I know she's pregnant in real life, but I wish they had found a way to include her in the Charts intervention, especailly since it was a flash-back to when Marshall first started working at the bank, not a current event (when she's on her 4-week stint of not speaking to Barney)
