Season 5, Episode 1 (Premiere): Decisions Discussion

[pictures to come]

Decisions, decisions. How do we approach a new job? How do we approach a new relationship? How do we approach a new bullwhip? Let’s discuss.

First off, I haven’t read any of your comments. But I like to think I know you guys, and if not, I can at least expect the worst. With that I say: calm down. It’ll be OK. Everything is good. Don’t believe me? Read on. Do believe me? Good, let’s continue.

What Was Good

There’s an entirely new dynamic to the show. I don’t know if it’ll last but this episode was fresh and different and I loved it. I fear that this will scare people and there’ll be cries of shark jumping, or selling out, but I say nay. What makes the show awesome is still there. The characters are still all themselves. It’s like reorganizing your living room. Same stuff, the only thing new is your outlook.

The episode was so good I’m going to break out a “What was good” per character. Here we go.

Barney

Glad to see the return of the “ORRRR…”. Barney hasn’t changed at all. He’s different than he was in the first season but that growth has been slow and progressive. Just like The Leap was not a big jump (pun intended) for his character, this episode wasn’t either. Go back and look at my posts from previous seasons, I was the first opponent of sensitive, Boyfriend Barney. But now I’m a believer.

Ted

Boy does he mean well. But he’s kind of a mess. All the stress over starting class. This was a B-plot but Radnor sells it. He’s adorable in his neuroses. I can identify with wanting to be awesome despite my self doubt and then having the issue manifest through something dumb like forgetting how to spell a word on the black board. Also, was Ted running with the big Empire State Building print more than just a little phallic?

Notice how cleverly they teased us with the mother but then pulled away, never to return. The “class” in which the mother was in attendance will not be the class we spend the year with. By putting him in the wrong class and making a gag out of it Bays and Thomas Jedi mind tricked us to forget that the mother was in the auditorium class, not Ted’s class. This eliminates the “dating his student” issues we’ve all discussed.

Lily

The reveal of Lily having locked RoBarn in engendered the kind of smile that makes me love this show. She is pure evil. Manipulative doesn’t begin to explain it. You have to love her though. She sees what her friends need and gives it to them, whether they want it or not. Also, and maybe it’s just that she’s glowing from being a mom but did she not look hotter than she ever has before? The new hair color is pretty great. I love Hannigan but honestly she’s never fanned my pancakes, as it were, until now.

Marshall

Definitely the one with the least to do this week Segel didn’t disappoint. How perefect is it that he loves Indiana Jones? It’s obvious really, considering his love for Star Wars. Him whipping while Lily forced her lesson was well played. Also, could anyone else walk into a bar in a tux dropping lines like “didn’t we meet on a yacht?” and make it as awesome as Segel? I think not.

Robin

Robin has gotten awesome. Her chemistry was always great with Ted and I never thought RoBarn could measure up to it but, somehow, it’s almost better. They’re perfect for each other. Is the set for Robin’s bedroom in Ted’s apartment the same as the set for her bedroom in her old apartment? It looks similar.

What Was Bad

Ha, ha, ha. Please.

Favorite Moments

  • Great song, for those that are wondering it’s Vampire Weekend “Oxford Comma” (see bottom)
  • How tricky were they to pan around the class teasing us with who the mother might be?
  • I love Lily’s excitement for RoBarn as a couple and her subsequent depression over their “breakup”
  • Marshall getting Ted a fedora and whip is adorable and fantastic. Ted also looks good in what can be an awkward hat.
  • Barney has a whip guy
  • “I’m so excited I’ve got whip fever!”
  • It’s sort of perfect that the one thing that makes Lily “woo” is seeing another relationship
  • “Slow your roll there, Lilypad”
  • God, fantasy Ted is such a douchey professor
  • Barney looking for condoms next to Ted’s bed when he wakes up from a nightmare might be the most perfectly funny moment ever from the show.
  • “You should’ve hit that. Your pants were already off, you had a classroom of people to cheer you on, and you couldn’t knock her up because it was a dream.”
  • Barney and Lily haven’t had a lot of good interaction, mostly just her yelling at him. Nice to see a more subtle dichotomy
  • “You just think you’re happy because you feel happy”
  • “What do I have to do, put a gun to your head?” Brad is awesome. I love that line. Mark my words, I’ll use that line.
  • “Wow, there’s really six of them…”
  • “Before we get going you should know something about my stuff below the belt. I was born different.”
  • “My heart says ‘leap into it’” – I love the call backs to previous episodes.
  • Did anyone else assume Ted and Barney in tuxes was after LAME’s wedding?
  • I want to know how the movie Predator helps you pick a tie.
  • Barnman and Robin
  • The return of the unreliable narrator! I love Future Ted’s assumption that Robin claims her ruined relationships for her.
  • Didn’t we meet on a yacht?

Closing

We’re in for a hell of a season. I always love the season premieres, but I think the preview we’ve got here is promising. I am excited for a focus on RoBarn in the beginning of the season. NPH can carry any weight given to him and Robin is an equal match.

It’s hilarious that RoBarn has been dating all summer without telling anyone. It’s great that they’re both so apprehensive to be with each other. One of the great things about them both is how much they convince themselves they’re something they’re not. Successful, awesome, whatever it might be. They believe it so much it’s real. The same is true for their relationship. They pretend that they’re pretending but Lily said it best. They don’t realize they aren’t.

For anyone who might not have liked the “fake” declaration of love between them, this should be the denouement of all your fan-fic fantasies of what they could be together. “he looks good in a suit” and “she can handle her scotch” are the most romantic sweet-nothings these two could exchange.

Also, my bet for the mom is the girl shaking her head to Ted spelling professor with two F’s. You heard it here first.

how could you not include my favorite line from the episode?

barney: she's more than just awesome, she's awwwe-a whole darn lot! lol

  2.  Picelli | September 23, 2009 @ 6:28 am

    just two words:
    DOOR FIVE

  3.  Andrew | September 23, 2009 @ 6:57 am

i doubt that the girl nodding her head when ted was wrong about writing proFFessor was the mother, sup dudes… SILENCE!!! that was awesome

  4.  Derek | September 23, 2009 @ 7:52 am

i miss this Barney. I hope we would see a lot of him (in this view) on future episodes.

    This episode rocks!

  5.  Jazzer | September 23, 2009 @ 7:57 am

Sup dudes, SILENCE was epic. xD AS well as Door Five!

Anyway, since I didn't watch new eps of HIMYM all summer, I kinda lost the love, it wasn't the same as before. But I also sat down to watch the ep, to see if it's good. The first half didn't make me laugh Much, but the the second half reminded me why I love the show so much. It always wakens a part of me that only that show can waken. It's amazing. the best show I've ever seen.

Awesome Discussion JD. Keep it up.

  6.  roland | September 23, 2009 @ 8:40 am

"Did anyone else assume Ted and Barney in tuxes was after LAME’s wedding?"

I thought I heard Ted say: "Four years ago, MacLaren's bar…" before beginning the tuxedo story. That would be around the time of the pilot, no?

  7.  sydb | September 23, 2009 @ 5:35 am

after having watched the episode a good 3 times by now i have to say that the best line is ted's "sup dudes? SILENCE! "

    other highlights for me are:
    the girl nodding
"did you do this?" "-no." "flugelhorn! did you do this?" "no!"
"didnt we meet in a yatch?"
    the exploding high fives
and the whole scene during the hockey game

i love that they changed the dynamics. it was necessary, the barney + bimbos thing was getting repetitive, and the whole "robin is a slut" thing was getting on my nerves. i think neil and cobie have A LOT of chemistry. and both actors are doing a great job, i was afraid it might be weird but i thought they were totally believable.

i love douchey teacher ted. i just hope they give more material to jason. he is awesome, the whole tuxedo thing was genius.

  8.  lamerezouille | September 23, 2009 @ 9:40 am

Well… I've got one big "what was bad" : What the heck happened to Robin's hair ? The hairdresser for the show don't seem to be on strike as Lily's look fabulous so there is no explanation for me…
Also, I was really waiting for my Mershall moment and gave up hope just before the tuxedo scene… Gosh ! I really lurve Jason Segel !
And I still don't think we see enough of Robin insights about her relationship with Barney… What we saw there was a little too light for me I'd say…
But well, this ep was awesome and it wouldn't be funny if everything was just perfect !

    Perfect as :
Ted as a teacher – couldn't stop laughing all scence long
    Barney calling a truce
    Indiana Jones references
    and so on

Not disappointed at all after a summer of waiting

  9.  Clemens | September 23, 2009 @ 11:12 am

I really liked this episode too, but since everyone has pointed out the outstanding parts of it by now, I think I can skip this part and start with my complaints:

1.: Am I the only one who thinks that Robin looks awfully fat in this episode? I read that she gave birth to her little daughter on May 16th, whereas the last episode of the 4th season had it's premier two days later. Could it be that she was still kinda pregnant when they shot this one? She is wearing wide stuff in every scene. Kinda found that annoying.

2.: I think there was too less footage/scenes for the whole barney-robin-thing. All through Season 4, he was kinda in love, and she didn't notice, and at the very last episode I think it was that they "finally found each other", whereas the "finally" means that robin gives in. There has been no scene wich told the audience where she got the feelings for barney from. And now, they are a cute, flirting couple. Doesn't fit for me. But hey, let's wait how this wirks out, shall we?

Anyhow, I totally agree with most of your pros, especially jasons scenes and teds "sup dudes. SILENCE!". Hilarious :D

  10.  curiousillusion | September 23, 2009 @ 11:21 am

I totally agree with what you said. I loved it.. thought it was a great episode!

  11.  curiousillusion | September 23, 2009 @ 11:21 am

I totally agree with what you said. I loved it.. thought it was a great episode!

Random realization: they never touched upon what happened after the episode The Leap. Like, how did they get back down after they jumped to that building with the pool? Maybe it'll be touched upon in a future episode?

  12.  katie | September 23, 2009 @ 12:18 pm

    Maybe they jumped back xD
    or, took the elevator down…

  13.  BSMOOTH | September 23, 2009 @ 1:16 pm

Maybe I need to rewatch the episode, but wasn't the girl who nodded her head to professor having one F black? If Ted's wife is in fact black, their two kids didn't get any of their mother's genes because those are two of the whitest kids I've ever seen.

  14.  Skye | September 23, 2009 @ 1:17 pm

    Seriously?

"And if you're a professor, where's your hat and whip?"

Best line from a thoroughly great episode.

  15.  nini | September 23, 2009 @ 1:28 pm

Robin fat? you have to get glasses or something. If by being fat you mean her boobs are bigger, you are right. Both the girls look so hot right now.

  16.  Trevor | September 23, 2009 @ 2:14 pm

Yes, she was black. No way it was her. His kids like you say are so white. However, you could see complaints like that of Friends of too many white people and never and minorities that Ted could end up dating a minority chick for awhile.

  17.  Jazzer | September 23, 2009 @ 2:15 pm

Sup dudes, SILENCE was epic. xD AS well as Door Five!

  18.  Clemens | September 23, 2009 @ 2:35 pm

Seriously, she have a look at her hips. You never get to see her in something tight, and have a look at how eager she is to close her bath robe when ascending from her bed. Have a look at this picture: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_u6zUOMhDqbs/Sriz7eAcWhI...
But if I'm the only one having this impression, I'll shut my mouth and stare at her bigger instead :p

  19.  Clemens | September 23, 2009 @ 2:36 pm

Ok, I'll stop using the phrase "have a look" for a while ^^

  20.  Daniel Saks | September 23, 2009 @ 2:48 pm

Robin's bedroom in Ted's apartment IS Marshall's old bedroom. And you will notice the bed from her old apartment is too F*king big for the room. We have to remind the warehouse that it's "Marshall's Old Bedroom" whenever we use it. Jason worked hard to learn to use that whip which made for (CRACK) an interesting (CRACK) Week In the Art De(CRACK)partment. We had a "Whip Guy" on set.

  21.  JustinDickinson | September 23, 2009 @ 3:08 pm

    Hey Daniel!

Yes, but thinking back to episodes like S3E01 where we see Robin's bedroom from her old apartment, it looks like a very similar set and I was curious. I don't remember spending a lot of time in the bedroom when it was Lily and Marshall's.

  22.  Chelsea | September 23, 2009 @ 3:19 pm

Just like before they came up with new saying for me, such as "whoa fog horn!" :D

  23.  6264 | September 23, 2009 @ 11:32 am

Although the woman in the class who was shaking her head is an ethnic minority, Bays and Thomas could work around that by suggesting Ted’s son and daughter being adopted. I wouldn’t put it pass them to be really creative with how Ted meets the mother. I still can’t help but to think the woman Ted bumps into in “No Tomorrow” or the woman who is walking out of MacLaren’s after Barney and Robin leaving Robin and Ted’s place bearing some significance. Perhaps if someone is up for it, watch ”No Tomorrow” again to see in there is someone in the club who matches someone in the Economics class. Anyhow, awesome episode.

  24.  Sara | September 23, 2009 @ 3:54 pm

The issues with Ted dating his student may have been resolved, but not the issue of Ted dating somebody 10 years younger than him. It just doesn't seem to fit with the show. The gang is around the same age, and throwing in a much younger woman would just throw things off. Plus, it's just weird. I seem to be the only one bothered by this (?).

  25.  browner | September 23, 2009 @ 3:59 pm

I'm pretty positive JD was kidding with that one

  26.  browny | September 23, 2009 @ 4:00 pm

Hope this season Barney gets Slap #3

  27.  Daniel Saks | September 23, 2009 @ 4:06 pm

Both are Red, Both have the windows upstage, and both have the door stage right (Camera Left) True they are similar. It's just an odd coincidence. We saw Marshall's Bedroom in Ted's apt. 2 or three times in seasons 3 and 4. (I started on the show in season 3)

  28.  Daniel Saks | September 23, 2009 @ 4:06 pm

    Keep watching.

  29.  JustinDickinson | September 23, 2009 @ 4:09 pm

    Thanks Daniel!

  30.  S.K. | September 23, 2009 @ 4:21 pm

How could you not include "No Ted, brunch is not cool" in the quotes? :o Taken altogether it was a great episode, Teds thank YOUU cracked me up the first few times :) Marshall was really underused in this ep though.

  31.  Josh | September 23, 2009 @ 4:24 pm

Season 4 got off to a slow start for me last year, but I'm really liking the new direction of the show (per my comments on the previous post).

Definitely agree that Barney just being a womanizer forever would just get played out and side after a while (we were about a season away). This is still Barney but in a new relational (and realistic) dynamic.

PS – I have ALWAYS thought Oxford Comma would be the perfect way to open a movie so it was so cool to see HIMYM use it to kick of the premiere. It's my favorite track on a solid album.

  32.  lithel | September 23, 2009 @ 4:31 pm

First of all don't think the girl that helped Ted wirte professor is the mother because we have seen the kids and the kids are not african american like I remember when he was talking about he marrying Stella the kids were blond and stuff so… don't think so
Regarding the age I don't know how college system works in the US but economics 305 sounds like a third year subject so she may not be that young (hey 7 years is less than 10)

LOVE THE EPISODE was so so so funny!!!

  33.  Andre | September 23, 2009 @ 4:37 pm

she is fat + has bigger boobs. but it's not like it's her fault, a human being had left her utero some weeks before.
    it's his fault.

  34.  Andre | September 23, 2009 @ 4:38 pm

i'd vote on jumping back but i think it would be a great flashback anyway, like the re-return

  35.  Andre | September 23, 2009 @ 4:39 pm

    the kids are adopted. doh

  36.  Andre | September 23, 2009 @ 4:45 pm

you know you can study economy at any age after you completed high school or something

  37.  Andre | September 23, 2009 @ 4:47 pm

    you mean #4. 1 – slapbet 2 – stuff 3 – slapsgiving

  38.  R2 Sweet Tooth | September 23, 2009 @ 4:53 pm

Great article, and a really good start for the new season. All the characters had their bright and funny moments which was great. Although I hope there will be more focus on Ted in the coming episodes, seems like Barney and Robin is the main-story now. I can't say that I agree that they're a good couple, one couple as Lily and Marshall is enough.

    /R2 Sweet Tooth

  39.  Rachel | September 23, 2009 @ 5:22 pm

Tux night couldn't have been after LAME's wedding because Ted and Barney were wearing striped ties, not bow ties.

    GREAT episode, love it!

  40.  Ranelle | September 23, 2009 @ 5:28 pm

I discovered How I Met Your Mother this past summer. I *love* it. I now look forward to watching the new season on TV!
As for the premiere, it definitely had a different vibe to it… a lot happened so it was fast-paced, which threw me off a bit… but I did like the episode. The biggest draw for me is the characters (so great, loveable and funny!) and I don't think Barnman uh Barney and Robin have changed because of their new "relationship" …well, for the most part. Barney is still Barney, and I've loved the journey of him realizing his feelings for Robin. It's Robin's feelings that I'm unsure about. She definitely has two sides to her. The side that was good with Ted, and the side that is good with Barney… so I guess I will see how it goes with her as the season progresses (ie: what does she think about Barney going to a strip club, does she care, is she worried he'll return to his old ways? etc). Can't wait to find out!

  41.  Scott | September 23, 2009 @ 5:43 pm

pretty amazing episode, definetly see this show going in a different direction, to be honest i thought they wrapped up ted's teaching part a litle quick, i was expecting a little more of a hint at the mom, but i guess we got all season.
The tux night couldn't be after LAME's wedding tho cause they were wearing striped ties at the wedding, also remember ted had just broken up with robin n wasn't going out anywhere yet, so it's doubtful he suited up with barney n went to the bar. Door five deserves a mention, and i think ted was probably funnier in this episode then he's ever been.
I'm going to make a prediction that ted eventually apologizes to the ecomomics class and the prof, and while making the apology this creates a reason for ted to come back into that class and meet/make an impression on the mother, just throwing it out there like i always do. Hat's off to the start of an intense season of the greatest show ever made

  42.  Beth | September 23, 2009 @ 6:47 pm

When he rates the whip, does Barney say he has a "whip guy" or a "whip guide?" I thought it was "guide."
Also, I'd love to see Robin discuss how her feelings for Barney evolved–maybe a discussion with Lily, or even better, Marshall. We need to know how that happened, since we already know about the progression of Barney's feelings (his discussions with Lily).

  43.  DaveR | September 23, 2009 @ 6:50 pm

I'm not particularly bothered by it. There's stil so much undiscovered about the mother. I think it's very possible the mother is there on a second degree, or whatever, and not necessarily early 20s.

  44.  sydb | September 23, 2009 @ 7:39 pm

i think fat is a bit much, isnt it?

as for the robin being into barney thing. i can see why people might be confused by that, but to me its no big deal. havent you ever dated a friend, or knew a friend that did? you dont need a big revelation moment where you decide you're now "in love", you just start hanging out, or in their case, having sex, and things grow from there. she clearly got along well with him before, and was somehow attracted to him, there have been hints of that for a while now.

  45.  sydb | September 23, 2009 @ 7:44 pm

my father is eleven years older than my mum. they have been together for 30 years, she gets along great with his friends. i have friends 10 years older than me as well as younger, i cant see why this is would be an issue.

  46.  Chelsea | September 23, 2009 @ 8:15 pm

oops I meant to say "flugelhorn"

  47.  Tash | September 23, 2009 @ 8:34 pm

Well I'm in third year here in Canada and I'm 20. So that would probably make a third year there 21 (Ted's 31) so it's still a 10 year difference if she did start right out of highschool. But maybe she changed programs halfway through or went back to school or something?

  48.  Sara | September 23, 2009 @ 8:34 pm

I agree with Andre and DaveR, that the mom could be an older student (like Ted's age). That may explain why she wasn't immediately turned off by Ted's embarrassing debut as a professor – she understands what it's like to start over and try something new at 30-ish. We'll have to wait and see I guess! (I love how this show always keeps you in suspense about the mother!)

  49.  Sara | September 23, 2009 @ 8:37 pm

I realize people enter into successful relationships with much older/younger people (like your parents, congrats to them!). The issue I have with the age gap (or possible age gap, we don't know yet) is that the show has always focused on this group of late 20's/early 30's bunch, and rather realistically I might add (I'm the same age as Ted). As someone who is 31, I can't imagine dating somebody who is 10 years younger than I am. The gap in maturity and life goals is huge when you're at that age. If the mother were to be 10 years younger than Ted, I just don't see her fitting in well with the gang or having a relationship-turned-marriage with Ted without the age difference being brought up. Unless she's a really, really mature 20-year-old. The portrayal of the students in the Econ class as being less mature and at a different life stage than Ted shows that the writers understand the differences in the ages. I can't wait to see how this one plays out!

  50.  Sara | September 23, 2009 @ 8:41 pm

In the U.S., students normally start college/university right after high school at age 18, so that would mean a third year student would be about 20 (11 years younger than Ted). However, a few have pointed out that there are plenty of college students out there that start college later or return to college later in life to start a new career. The mom could be in this category.

  51.  Sara | September 23, 2009 @ 8:44 pm

I thought it was "guy", like he was implying he has a guy who sells him whips. :)

  52.  JustinDickinson | September 23, 2009 @ 8:57 pm

Wouldn't it be interesting if the mother was in the wrong class as well? She meets Ted later and recognizes him, they share the bond of embarrassment for that day. Then it's addressed in a line something like \”I wondered why everyone else in the class was 10 years younger than me\”

  53.  Matt | September 23, 2009 @ 9:03 pm

I think the mother is going to be in the class, just like she was in the bar the episode when they thought the world was going to end. Ted mentioned she was there, but he didnt find it out until much later in life, and she probably wouldn't have liked him then. Additionally the age difference can be nulled, because people go back to college, or she could have been a guest lecturer sitting in on the class or just a first day observer. She doesn't even necessarily need to be taking Eco 304. It'll be fun to find out how they end up playing it out.

  54.  Toby | September 23, 2009 @ 9:38 pm

I just recently stumbled on to this site, but I LOVE it (almost as much as the show)

I was really worried that the Robin/Barney pairing would kill their chemistry, but I am so happy to be wrong I loved everything about the episode but I especially liked when they were "lying" to Lily, Marshall, and Ted but in reality they were having "the talk."

I also think when Barney interprets Ted's dream by saying "second of all you should have hit that" shows that he can still be Barney without having to be a womenizer.

BTW how funny was it that Ted was totally unfazed about Barney being in his room in the middle of the night rifling for condoms

  55.  Enrico | September 23, 2009 @ 11:51 pm

Hi, great episode….love it..and Segel is always my favorite .

I don't read all the other comments so don't now if someone already say that but it is not mentioned in the recap so…anyone else noticed Segel dressed up like a student with red hair in the economic 305 class…at least it seemed like he was him…
If i'm right it was great…

  56.  Bruna | September 24, 2009 @ 1:16 am

Great Episode!!!!! AWESOME! I´m really glad the way the writers put this hole RoBarn stuff, and Ted as a teacher… and, of course, Lily crazy to have a couple as friends! Just loved it…
And I have to say that I liked to see Robin a little fatter… she was realllly skinny these last seasons and, come on guys… they just had kids, both of then are fatter. They are not robots! Let the woman get smoother! :)

Last year around episode 4 or 5 everyone was complaining that she was rail thin… we need to give it a rest. She gave birth 4 months ago… i think she can be forgiven.

Just to reinforce: JASON SEGEL was the best in this episode!

  59.  BGeo | September 24, 2009 @ 1:31 am

After a disappointing night at the Emmy's, How I Met Your Mother certainly sent a big "REALLY?" in the direction of the Academy. It was a great episode to start off a season that surely will have a atmosphere that we aren't used to. The humour was so well written and Barney and Robin's relationship is totally believable. Jason Segel is hilarious.

Reading over all of the previous posts, it is obvious just how funny this episode was, as many readers have posted "…I can't believe you didn't mention this!" in response to JD's post.

Can't wait for the story of The Wedding Bride

they said it was economics 305. at minimum upper division, or possibly graduate level economics. the mother could be 24-26 or so.

yes, this. and what i meant is exactly the point you made about she being mature, it happens. also we dont even know if we'll get to see the mother interact with the gang, i think it could be dangerous introducing the mother anytime soon… what if the chemistry is off somehow? i would prefer if the mother just appeared in the end.

I absolutely LOVED it when Marshal is telling Ted that he has to agree with him about Barney needing to have "the talk," in which Ted responds with…"the talk is not necessary," in which Marshal responds with "WHAAAT!" Then Ted responds with, "Robin is already Barney's GF." then Barney responds with "WHAAAT!!" CLASSIC!!! My sisters and I have been doing that all day long!!!

You are retarded. Have you ever done the math? You gain like like 50 pounds in a pregnancy and the baby weighs around 7! It takes a little while to get that off.

  65.  Jenn | September 24, 2009 @ 6:02 am

Ha! That would be really funny to see in a flashback! Like this awkward silence with them all staring at the other building…. I like it.

  66.  Jenn | September 24, 2009 @ 6:03 am

Good point. I didn't even think of that!

  67.  Jenn | September 24, 2009 @ 6:03 am

Whoops I meant that last one in response to the comment below. :)

I keep thinking that along the show, Ted is gradually getting his cowboy outfit completed. LOL.

Loved the episode. The song gives the sense of a fresh beggining. Loving it. And in the end, I couldn't help by saying 'awww' when robin and barney held hands. So cute! :D

    Somehow i just didn't like this show…
The idea of Barney being in a relationship is very annoying besides the fact that Ted is not in one sounds really weird…

  71.  Clemens | September 24, 2009 @ 11:27 am

Actually, this was not supposed to be an insult to Colbie, as your comment about being retarded is to me. She has every right to look like she did, but since I wasn't shure whether her pregnancy could possibly be a reason for that because I don't know when they started shooting season 5, I just wanted to make sure I'm not the only one who sees it. Sorry if anyone here felt offended by that.

    And anyhow:
    1 + 1 = 3 , right? right??

  72.  Clemens | September 24, 2009 @ 11:36 am

Pretty shure it was a "guy". Look at the comment above of daniel smth, who appears to be set designer on the show. He also talks about a whip guy.

  73.  fhsambuichi | September 24, 2009 @ 6:58 pm

as Jd said, we're in for a hell of a season… just hope this is not the last one….

  74.  A-Face | September 24, 2009 @ 7:12 pm

Sorry JD, Alyson and Cobie both need to lose the baby weight

  75.  cma | September 25, 2009 @ 4:14 am

Am I the only one who thinks Brad is HILARIOUS and should be in more episodes?

"What do I have to do, put a GUN to your head?" LOL

  76.  sm_ | September 25, 2009 @ 5:42 am

I thought it was guide too, but after taking another look at the episode, he definitely said guy.

  77.  nitzthebloody | September 27, 2009 @ 7:23 am

Technically, Alyson Hannigan's baby weight at least was worked into the character ( in the season finale, Marshall buys that she was pregnant due to a canonical if not explained weight gain, which really pisses Lily off ). Robin might not have such an excuse, but really, does it matter if they have a few extra pounds? Both Hannigan and Smulders are incredibly talented and pretty, and their characters don't need to be emaciated Kate Moss types.

  78.  Neil | September 27, 2009 @ 8:42 am

    Love the ending. Really sweet.

Ted: You do realize they were lying right?
Lily: No Ted. They don't realize they weren't lying.

  79.  Jenn | September 28, 2009 @ 4:54 am

Ha! I didn't notice that with the cowboy outfit!

  80.  Yvette | September 28, 2009 @ 8:42 am

I think Barney says 'Whip guide' and not 'guy'…
But I loved the episode! "Sup dudes, SILENCE!' crackep me up! :D
And Marshall whipping and saying 'NOT GOOD ENOUGH' was awesome!

  81.  TheMix | September 28, 2009 @ 9:40 pm

Loved the episode….Loved it Loved it.

JD pretty much hit the nail on the head as far as my feelings on it.

As for your prediction that the girl in the fantasy shaking her head at Ted is the Mother….well that would be absolutely wonderful. After watching the episode with my friend Hannah (who is an actress) we both decided that that moment was the best of the episode (that and "Whip for love!") simply because of the timing between her and Ted. It was perfect. Could not have been done any better. If that would be an indication of how their relationship would be acted out, I would be more than pleased to see her as the mother.

  82.  TheMix | September 28, 2009 @ 10:03 pm

Doubt they would've jumped back. Ted's roof was about 3 ft. higher than the other roof. It would be an interesting jump back.
