I began using tobacco while I was a kid. This appears to be the most severe mistake of my life. Now 30 years down the road and I have chronic copd. When looking to quit cigs, I discovered the e-cigarette and will give it a try. With any luck, it will assist me with this unhealthy habit.

Tash- Thank you for the link! Yeah, I’ve found a few things they wear as well as they are always insanely expensive!
Toby- Even as I was writing my opinion I knew it would be unpopular and thought “this could be one that Toby won’t agree with me on.” But I DO agree about Don! I’m guessing the writers thought that since they already told us they would be dating, that they could play with the story line? But seriously. Tighty whities at work and they expect me to believe Robin would hit that? I don’t think so!!

jenn, the reason why i think there was some kind of moral thing about it, was because they all smoked, but always the reaction to them smoking was shock – ted’s kids, or disapproval. and at the end, they get to smoke on screen, but the message is ‘but look guys it was wrong, so we stopped doing it’.

and this show has showed them doing so many “wrong” things, drinking a lot, smoking pot, going to strip clubs, but there was never any judgment on any of that, and i thought that in this episode there was some. and i didnt like it.

like i said, i dont smoke, never have, and i wish that all my friends wouldnt do it, but not because of their health but because of the smell, which i hate. i think my friends are all adults and they can choose what they want for themselves, even, to a certain degree obviously, if its harmful to them.

but i guess what rubbed me the wrong way was the plotline per se, because it has been done before, so why do it? we all have seen robin, lily, barney and marshall (?) smoke at least one cigarette on the show before, so it was not a big deal. what was strange was seeing them suddenly all chain smoking together, then they quit, then they start smoking again and then they quit, all at the same time… it was dumb. and there was this judgmental tone about it, at least to me.

BGeo – I just logged on here to say the same thing! I LOVED that there is a Timmy Ho’s can on the roof. I guess the show put it there as a nod to Robyn’s Canadianity? Who knows. Love it.

I think most of the time season 5 has left me pretty conflicted every episode. There were a few things I really liked about Last Cig, but also some things I really hated. Loveddd the fact that Marshall can time travel, when Barney screamed to find a cigarette burn on his tie, and the ending. Totally am not liking Don one bit (parading in his underwear? really?) and Lily’s sore throat. Was just too over the top and kinda annoying. I tend to enjoy watching episodes where the group is all together, but this smoking club thing didn’t work for me.

A very very minor detail about the final scene on the roof.

The tin can they are using for an ashtray is a Tim Horton’s Coffee Can.

Being Canadian I noticed it instantly. Anyone else notice/care???

Toby, I agee with you yet again. This whole Don thing just seems…forced. I don’t like where it’s going, and there’s just something about his character that I don’t like. I can’t quite put my finger on it though.

Also…Jenn, I completely LOVE the coat she’s wearing! I have something kind of similar in blue from this store called Costa Blanca. It’s actually affordable (unlike almost all of the clothes on the show)!
I had fallen in love with this dress Robin wears back in season 4- it was grey, white and yellow…was gorgeous! I ended up finding it at Neiman Marcus for over $1000! Too much for me :S
