KAtie, I totally understand what you mean about Friends. They were a huge part of my life for ten years and I felt a void after it went off the air, but I got really sick of the show because when I first got DVR I would record the reruns and just got sick of it

none taken, toby weirdly, i measure himym by a higher standard than friends because its setting just has more potential and it’s just a little more up-do-date simply because it’s newer (i laughed out loud when chandler started bragging about his 28k modem in an episode i recently watched). it has a very modern style of storytelling with the flashbacks and fast cuts and all. can’t quite explain about friends, the show’s just been part of my everyday life for so many years, i can’t go without it. simply put: they’ll be there for me

yes, that’s it, the pining..ooooh the pining..it took barney the last few episodes of season 3 and all of season 4 to tell robin he liked her and now they were togheter for a total of six episodes. that’s why romantic movies stop after the happy end. you don’t want to see that the girl/boy the characters has longed for for more than a year is not the right one (that’s also why i liked that they waited with ross/rachel until the very end, no one wants to see the crappy daily relationship drama). but i trust the writers to at some point in the future really make me believe in robin and barney.

@ katie, yes they were only together once during the show, but they always went back and forth with their feelings for each other. Plus they had a baby together. It was pretty annoying (I am sorry, I know you are a die hard Friends fan. I mean no offense)
I do however at this point agree with you that Robin and Barney are more analogous to J.D and Elliot only because J.D spent a year and a half pining after her, and their “relationship” lasted a minute. Sound familiar???????

The thing that scares me about the similarities JD/Elliot thing is that Bill Lawrence never intended for them to get back together again after the 3rd(?) season (can’t remember which one), and that’s why he had J.D. destroy her, so that even if they got their friendship back, there would not be another chance at a relationship because he didn’t want it to become “Ross/Rachel” and the constant undercurrent of the show and its fanbase. He only gave in because the other writers (and, imho, the fans) really wanted it.

That said, I still trust these writers. I feel like the last few episodes have felt like HIMYM again, if not quite up to the quality of the classics. They know when they are making mistakes, and work to fix them. And, lets be honest, mediocre HIMYM still blows 99% of comedy out of the water, if only because the chemistry between the actors was always what made the dialogue work, and not appear canned and unbelievable.

Can’t wait to see what is next.

i really don’t get what people are always saying about ross and rachel. it’s like they’ve become the poster child for on-again-off-again relationships by telling and re-telling the story. i mean, they really only were together twice, once in season 2 and then again in the finale. ted and robin also had their sex-relapse twice (slapsgiving and then where they use it to prevent fighting).
the JD/elliot comparison is more of a fit for me, that’s what i don’t want as well. but i think the being-friends-speech while breaking up was a good indication that they won’t be such an dramatic on-again-off-again couple. sure, they’ll be on again at some point, but it won’t go back and forth so much, i don’t think

I don’t think Barney and Robin are really over just yet.

I’m yet again in between about this ep. I liked how it was handled, but I still don’t understnad why they would bring this couple together just to tear them apart so quickly. Not only that, but I really hope this isn’t going to be just another repeat of the Rachel Ross thing. That’s why I’m thinking the whole story hasn’t been shared just yet.

I mean, he went to Canada for her! He HATES Canada and anything it stands for ;P

But yeah, this episode was alright IMO

Yeah, I mean I hate the outcome of Barney and Robin but there is a part of me that is looking forward to womanizing Barney again. He looked so hot when he came in and said Daddy’s home.

Of course what I found hilarious was at the end tag when he ran out to find the next Robin Sparkles thing instead of picking up women at the bar gave me hope that this isn’t over for good.
