It seems interesting. I’m not going to sleep till I watch it :D

(Here in Spain, the time around the episode is uploaded anywhere and I download it is 3 am)

  2.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 11:50 am

High Hopper, where in Spain do you live? I was there over the summer, and I loved it!

I am actually really excited for this weeks episode, despite my feelings regarding the break up

  3.  High Hoper | November 16, 2009 @ 11:58 am

I have lived across the whole country, but nowadays I live in Madrid, in the center of Spain.

  4.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 12:18 pm

I loved Madrid. It reminded me of New york, but prettier

  5.  CourtneyE | November 16, 2009 @ 1:17 pm

JD, do they have you locked in a basement, updating merely to prove you’re alive? I’m going to search your posts for “HELP ME” codes.

Hope your real-life stuff calms down soon. Come back to us, good sir.

  6.  Little Barney | November 16, 2009 @ 2:00 pm

JD, you should make a post like this straight after the episode has aired so that we can discuss it even if you haven’t done a review.
It would be appreciated by people like me who have been following your website for more than two years.

  7.  Hey :) | November 16, 2009 @ 2:37 pm

I can also download it at 3 am. But I am unlike High Hoper going to sleep before that :P
    (I live in Amsterdam)

  8.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 2:39 pm

Wow I should stop complaining. I live in New York, and get home from work at 11pm, and must watch before I go to sleep, but I have in easy compared to you guys!

  9.  Jazzer | November 16, 2009 @ 2:42 pm

C’mon JD, you can do better then that. =] Good for a start though.

Anyway, this episode will be the best episode EVER! It’s going to contain all the awesomeness Barney made in the first four seasons, and nothing makes me more happier then seeing Barney at it’s best, making my day.

I don’t belive I’ll wait for it, since it also comes around 3am or so. I like the usual way, where I get up early and get it then.

  10.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 16, 2009 @ 2:52 pm

Wow. I watch it right when it airs, at 7:00 for me in Denver. And then I watch it again at like 9:00 because it was just so funny. Props to you guys who have to sacrifice a little to see it!
I’m still laughing at Mrs. Stinsfire.

  11.  mayank | November 16, 2009 @ 3:47 pm

I am so excited to see whats in the Playbook especially that now daddy’s home……Tough luck to me however coz I can’t watch the new episode before tuesday..Here in India were’e about 11 hrs ahead of US

  12.  Leigh | November 16, 2009 @ 4:12 pm

    Holy cow, whereis everyone from??

I get home from work in Toronto at 11 p.m. and can watch it online right away (www.quickflicksnow.com works best for me). But I guess with the time difference High Hopes and Jazzer have to wait until 3 a.m.? Wait…if I’m reading the time difference correctly, you should be able to watch it in the evening.

If I’m wrong…blame it on my blonde hair.

  13.  Leigh | November 16, 2009 @ 4:13 pm

Wait, I see how I was reading it wrong…Toronto is 6 hours behind Madrid, not the other way around. My bad.

  14.  Jazzer | November 16, 2009 @ 4:48 pm

I’m like, 6h ahead of Canada, since I’m in GMT 1. I don’t mind waiting, it’s not that much. And it makes the anxiety bigger, so I enjoy the episode more.

  15.  Anon9631 | November 16, 2009 @ 4:59 pm

Anyone know what’s going on with CBS.com lately? My DVR is having a meltdown, so I’ve had to watch online the past couple of weeks, but cbs hasn’t been putting the new epis up until FRIDAY – arghhhh!

  16.  katie90 | November 16, 2009 @ 5:04 pm

hehe, didn’t know the majority of you guys is from europe too :D i can get it at about 3am, too. don’t know if i will though, gotz a long day tomorrow.

JD, i agree with what someone said about making a post for every episode even if you’re not gonna review it – we totally spammed in the bagpipes-comments about the rough patch, i guess it got a little hard to oversee.
i know real life always needs to be the priority, so please just chill a little :) as much as we all like to read your reviews, don’t burden yourself with catching up. wanting to review all of the last episodes will only prevent you from posting caus it builds up to be so much work. just start reviewing again whenever you’re ready!

  17.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 5:09 pm

WOW. HIMYM seems really popular in Europe! I am beginning to think it is more popular there than it is here in New York.

I agree with Katie, JD don’t stress too much. I work a bazillion hours a week also, and totally understand the stress levels :)

  18.  katie90 | November 16, 2009 @ 5:48 pm

toby – that why it sucks so much that you guys are the ones responsible for ratings ;) there are many shows that do well over here but not in the US. and sadly, we don’t get a say in what stays on the air.. well, i know, neither do you guys (except for those nielsen people) but still :)

  19.  Zach | November 16, 2009 @ 5:48 pm

As a college student in the US, I usually can’t watch the episodes when they air. So how does everyone else see them online? Like anon said, CBS doesn’t upload the new episodes until almost a week after they air.

  20.  High Hoper | November 16, 2009 @ 6:31 pm

I really like commenting with you guys, wherever you are from. If there was a way to make a global meet-up, I’d be there LOL :P

At least, I in Spain can not watch CBS online. I have to wait till someone uploads it (normally half an hour after the episode has finished) to download asap and watch it.

Glad to see people from everywhere.

JD, don’t worry, be happy :)

    4 hours to go LOL

  21.  Jazzer | November 16, 2009 @ 6:32 pm

^ Not to sound like a leech, a bad guy, or something else, but I download my episodes, and I presume other people here do the same thing.

Since HIMYM is the greatest thing that ever happened to me, I have to watch it at all cost, and since I live in a place that’s hidden from everything, I don’t have CBS, and I don’t want it, since this works just as well. =]

  22.  High Hoper | November 16, 2009 @ 6:37 pm

^ I do it. I download them. And when it comes out the Season DVD, I buy it. I only do it with Himym, really, I don’t buy other series dvd’s.

Also.. in Spain, the dubbing in Spain is awful. I prefer watching Tv shows in the original versions. First and last time I was at US, I was told to speak with a good english accent. I replied: Thank your tv series! :)

  23.  Jazzer | November 16, 2009 @ 6:59 pm

Yeah, I got hooked to commenting here too. =] Don’t know why actually, but it’s fun to exchange thinking. I’m actually from Serbia, it’s under Austria, above Greece, and pretty close to Italy. Just so people know.

The show is really popular here, several TV stations aired it, but not the fifth season of course, so I always have to find alternate ways to watch everything. Comedy shows really changed my life, from the roots. Been watching sitcoms for… 5 years now, and intend to continue with it. Seeing Barney being single again, and that being the thing and character that hooked me on this amazing show, I’m incredibly happy! It’s almost 00 here in Serbia, actually, a minute till midnight.

  24.  GT | November 16, 2009 @ 7:10 pm

i’m from indonesia, about 12 hours ahead of the U.S.

but seriously, guys from europe, why don’t you just wait??
i dont watch it straight away in the morning at 8, i wait until the afternoon.

i mean, yeah it’s a funny show, but come on

  25.  Filipa | November 16, 2009 @ 7:20 pm

Well I’m from Portugal and I actually do the same as the other guys. I watch it around 2 a.m, unless i have a long day ahead :)

Zach- you should try sidereel.com if you want to watch it online ;)

Anyway, i’m looking forward for this episode tonight :)

  26.  High Hoper | November 16, 2009 @ 7:27 pm

I actually have (a bit of) insomnia. It’s difficult for me to sleep at regular hours. That’s why I watch it now instead of waiting to watch it the next day. Also, I like to tell people in the morning I already watched the episode, everyone asks me “what happened, what happened”.

I have an idea for when so many people that writes here, tell us where they are from. Go on!

    3 hours to go :P

  27.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 7:33 pm

Katie, I don’t have any control over the ratings, but I do try and get everyone I know watching HIMYM. I started last year, and am a total addict!

I like commenting on here also even though a lot of people don’t agree with me :( . But I guess thats what is fun about it the debating! I also comment on another forum, but we all think a like so there isn’t much of a debate thing happening.

  28.  Jazzer | November 16, 2009 @ 7:37 pm

It’s 00.30 here. So I’m probably going to sleep. It’s better for me to get up at 8AM and get the ep then, then waste another 3-4 hours waiting.

  29.  High Hoper | November 16, 2009 @ 7:38 pm

That’s not a problem, Toby, I usually have opposite reactions and thoughts about new episodes, but in the end, if we are all polite, there is no problem :)

  30.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 8:52 pm

Very true! It makes sense that a lot of you are from Europe because i wake up at 7am and check my email and see that a bunch of people have commented during the night, and was always curious about it.

I am actually kind of excited for this weeks episode.

  31.  CourtneyE | November 16, 2009 @ 9:33 pm

    SPOILERS, my out-of-the-country friends! AVOID!

I already don’t care for this Don person. Look, I didn’t much enjoy the way they handled Swarkles (let’s all make this happen now – thank you Katie for bringing it over) but I am bummed that Robin is going to start seeing someone. Reassure me that it works out for these two crazy kids. This can’t have all been for naught.

  32.  BGeo | November 16, 2009 @ 9:38 pm

I loved this episode… classic barney, the lily from the beginning of season 4, and Ted and marshall were funny as well

  33.  CourtneyE | November 16, 2009 @ 9:40 pm

I do want to say that I LOVED this episode and thought it was amazing. “Frozen waffles” was awesome. This breakup just affected me more than I thought, not unlike SCUBA suit Barney.

  34.  Arabella | November 16, 2009 @ 9:49 pm

    Lorenzo von matterhorn!!

  35.  Emily | November 16, 2009 @ 10:16 pm

    SPOILER

…I have mixed feeling bout this epidsode, i mean i LOVE single Barney and I was rooting for Swarkles to break up from the beginning, but now that its “done”, they treated it lyk it never happened … and I think Barney has ATLEAST some parts of a heart to care about that … and i think he was genuine when he was talkin to Robin and it just fit into the “scuba diver”… And i really feel that its time for the stpryline to move along..its been lyk 8 episodes… (though im loving the barneyness but miss his catchphrases..)

and i CANT wait for the 100th EPISODE!

  36.  High Hoper | November 16, 2009 @ 10:22 pm

    Loved the episode.

    Totally.

Just 3 words: SUCK IT, LILY!

  37.  6264 | November 16, 2009 @ 10:44 pm

In my opinion, the strongest episode of the season. It had all the little things that makes HIMYM awesome and we even see the story advancing for some of the characters. I may be in the minority, but single Barney is wonderful because it gives the shows more opportunity/freedom to work with inside jokes to the show such as “The Playbook” which had “The Bracket” feel to it brings out the best acting from all the cast. Hope you have the chance to do reviews again JD, cheers

  38.  ev. mosby | November 16, 2009 @ 10:46 pm

Well since everyone’s talking about where they’re from, I’m from SE Asia and I’m actually watching it on 17th Nov, 9am (they usually upload the video about 30 min after it’s aired and I just stream it). Been doing it for many years now! Anndd now that I’ve watched it I’ll say I wasn’t feeling the show too much.

I mean the best parts were Barney’s tricks and we already saw them in the promo. Just kinda wished there was… more. Have been saying this for a few episodes already – What is happening to Ted at work?? We’ve been seeing too much of NPH and I really will be sad on the day he unintentionally becomes too over-exposed on the show. Ted’s new job was what made Season 5 so promising but not a lot of attention has been given to him yet.

Though I’m starting to think Swarkles breaking up is a good idea, I wish they could’ve handled it more delicately. But the best thing is that they didn’t wait long to break up so realistically it’s easier to be friends after a really brief romance.

Things I liked were: the wonderfully chemistry between Ted and Marshall. They’re so cute with their murmurs about Robin finding The One. Also, only one person can get away with winking that much in a single episode…..

    Barr-neeeeeeyyyy. A-Stinsooonnnnnnn.

p.s: JD, we’ve, liked, seriously missed you.

  39.  ev. mosby | November 16, 2009 @ 10:55 pm

I can’t believe I missed this out. I loved the music from this entire episode! Reminded me so much of The Naked Man.

  40.  Toby | November 16, 2009 @ 11:58 pm

So i just watched the Playbook, but I didn’t love it as much as I would have pre Barney and Robin. I definitly loved Mrs. Stinsfire, and the Scuba Diver was hilarious!!!!!!! But………… I don’t know. I just really don’t like how the Barney/Robin relationship played out, and I don’t like that there is a new guy already for Robin. It makes me less hopeful that things will work out for them.

However, I do think what Barney said to Robin in the bar was really genuine. I guess we have to see how this plays itself out. I have to keep reminding myself that the writers are evil.

  41.  JT | November 17, 2009 @ 12:01 am

Tonight’s episode was superb… I was totally in love with the game show references:

Barney: “Correct! Circle gets the square!” from Hollywood Squares.
Ted: He suggests to start playing Pyramid at MacLarens.

Kudos out to Marshall for excellent execution of some really awkward lines… We know frozen waffles are frozen waffles… or are they?!

But nothing as epic as the Playbook. I want one. Legendary.

  42.  JT | November 17, 2009 @ 12:08 am

BTW – Google Lorenzo von Matterhorn and check the cached version of the Wikipedia entry…

  43.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 17, 2009 @ 12:21 am

I saw the Scuba Diver coming from a mile away… but I really enjoyed this episode. Lily’s and Barney’s swearing was really funny. Is that a call back to something? Saying it with that funny slurred accent?
I know everyone hates Lily lately, but as funny as Barney is on a show, I’d react the same way if he were a real life person! Someone said on comments a really long time ago that he’d be in jail or deported by now. So I see where Lily’s coming from.
Oh, Barney and his scams! What the writers must be on to come up with so many of these things! One of my favorite episodes is The Bracket and when you really think about all the various scams they’ve written in, it’s pretty impressive!
Also they could have picked a cuter guy for Don. But I’ll keep an open mind.

  44.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 12:23 am

Totally agree! Don was NOT cute

  45.  CourtneyE | November 17, 2009 @ 12:30 am

Anyone else notice the “Lorenzo von Matterhorn is not a jerk” in the Google search? LOVE.

  46.  Starney Binson | November 17, 2009 @ 12:34 am

THIS is what HIMYM is supposed to be like.

    Thank you.

  47.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 17, 2009 @ 12:35 am

Oh, yeah, I paused the google search and all the results were hilarious! Lorenzo von Matterhorn is not a jerk was my favorite.
I just did a google search and as soon as I typed in Lorenzo it came up with Von Matterhorn. and there’s this little graph at the bottom of the page of popularity (something Marshall would have liked) and it’s flatlined until 7:00 when it spikes up to the top! Love it.

  48.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 17, 2009 @ 12:36 am

In fact, it says that it is the “1st most popular search in the past hour” on google. Ah, the power of HIMYM fans.

  49.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 12:42 am

I did a google search, and I think its hilarious that there are already articles written about it! Its only been like 4 hours since the episode aired! The power of the internet.

  50.  Purple Giraffe | November 17, 2009 @ 12:46 am

Wow, I had no idea that HIMYM had such a large international fanbase! That’s awesome! I DVR the show and start it about ten minutes late because my last class gets done at 7 o’clock. I think it’s so cool that some of you guys watch it online in the middle of the night. If I didn’t live in America I would totally do the same thing. This show is totally worth it.

  51.  Chad | November 17, 2009 @ 3:15 am

    Wow! Great episode!

I hope “Don” was casted well!

Cute Blonde Girl singing the harmony part with the gang was a great moment. Think she has a chance? Hah.

  52.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 3:16 am

yeah, i download them as well and buy the DVDs when they get out. but we’ve only got the first three seasons out, so i couldn’t stand to watch only those (and the dubbing is really really painful to watch, so TV isn’t an option either)

i loved this episode! i don’t necessarily think it was one of the best or something but it had what makes himym great. it’s a great stepping stone to the comeback of season5 – bigger, better, stronger :D
few things i have to mention:

did you notice the sign in the kindergarden kitchen that said “please keep sinkl clean”?? that was so awesome and so, well, himym, because it follows the ep from the week before last where lily couldn’t stand a dirty sink.

robin’s hair’s starting to look normal again. she had kind of a mob going on all season but i guess that’s what pregnancy hormons can do to you ;)

i’m sorry but shelley was NOT cute

the lorenzo von matterhorn was awesome and so are the sites. i also LOVED “sonovabiitch” in that fake italian accent hahaha, i laughed every time that came up

the scuba diver was really obvious, in my opinion. not that i didn’t like it but as someone above me said – you could smell it from a mile away. sorry, swarkles shippers, but i thought the apology to robin seemed fake which is why i was totally witing for the reveal of the scuba diver as exactly that (getting his friends to help – i hadn’t expected)

flimflams! the fun thing is, when lily said that about the scams, the… i went like “huh..the forgot the flimflams!” cause that was such an obvious one bacause the word just sounds funny. and then they actually had barney ask for it, haha, i loved that

i’m glad i hadn’t watched the promo though, i guess it would’ve taken a lot of the fun out of his scams

i actually liked how robin and barney behaved around each other, i felt it was genuine and they’re on a good way to be awesome friends again (i really don’t want them to hook up again until the last episode i do think they take the awesome away frmo each other the way they were handled this time around)

    “it’s a good read” – “yeah, i’m reading it right now” :D

    MILSWANCAs!

    yesyesyes..keep them coming, writers!!

  53.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 3:18 am

forgot one thing: the “he’s not coming” — i loved his failed attempts like the girl who didn’t speak english or the “he’s not coming….she’s not coming?”

  54.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 3:21 am

guys, help me out with the harmonies? :D
    the SMOON!!
sorry for the huuuge post..i’m just so excited, i’m rewatching it already

  55.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 3:24 am

last post, promise: i don’t mind don. true, he’s not that handsome but i don’t think he’ll be of much significance, despite the build up (which i also loved..ted and marshall were great throughout the whole episode about teasing robin). also lily was back in a not annoying way! hope she stays like that

  56.  anthony | November 17, 2009 @ 4:14 am

Something i really wonder after this episode even though “Don” is not confirmed as a major character yet, would robin actually be the one getting married before ted? That would be a bizarre twist robin is married to someone and ted isn’t. Especially after how robin has said she didnt want to be married and ted is the one obsessed with it.

  57.  Jazzer | November 17, 2009 @ 5:15 am

OH SNAP!!!! I am sooooo hyped right now… This episode was legen… Wait for it…. And I hope you’re no lactose intolerant ‘couse the second half of that word is DARY!! Sorry, had to get it out of the system.

This episode was EPIC! There is no amount of words, no amount of meere letters written with turned on Caps Lock, that express how awesome this was.

The second “Barney Book” that comes as The Playbook, after the awesome Bro Code which also came in actual paper and form audio disc, hopefully, this get’s the same treatment. Already read the Bro Code about 7 times.

The end bummed me a little with his fake emotions, and how he’s stopping at his scams, but then… God, YES!! So awesome!!! How genius can you be to make so many legendary scams, like The Don’t Drink That, genius right? Mrs. Stinsfire, The Scuba Diver, The Ted Mosby, The He’s Not Coming, and so many awesome things and ideas.

So gonna watch this episode again, and again, and again.

  58.  vampeta64 | November 17, 2009 @ 8:55 am

I thought robin was still working on that morning show?

  59.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 9:19 am

I seriously doubt Don is going to significant either, and no I doubt that Robin is going to get married before Ted.
Katie, I agree with you that the scuba diver thing was obvious, but I disagree about the apology to Robin. If you notice he was shocked that Robin felt the way she did before lily approached claire at the bar. i think it was his “Barney” way fo apologizing to her, but he still had to make sure his scam worked.

Despite what I posted earlier I did like the episode, I thought it was funny. I am upset at the writers (or myself) because had this episode aired prior to the Barney and Robin relationship I would have loved it. It just reminded me how angry I was at the writers for how the relationship played out. I think my favorite was the he’s not coming scam.

  60.  Starney Binson | November 17, 2009 @ 10:26 am

Don’s significance for Robin will probably be akin to Stella’s significance to Ted — a tease, but really just a character who is there to “lead them” in the right direction.

  61.  Elisa | November 17, 2009 @ 10:35 am

Hi guys, I’m Elisa from Italy ( I hear today it’s the ‘I’m from Europe Day’ , so here I am)
First time I post a comment here, mostly because my english is not that good and I’m ashamed of all the mystakes I’m goint to make :)
I loved this episode, I didn’t like the Swarkles break up either but I love having the real Barney back!
And there were so many great lines .. I loved every word from The Playbook, I totally want a copy :D

  62.  Arxel | November 17, 2009 @ 10:58 am

In Teds apartment while playing with Marshall on Xbox 360, Teds remote controller is without batteries! :D FAIL! :D

  63.  Filipa | November 17, 2009 @ 11:38 am

Well, it was a good episode If it had happened pre Barney and Robin. It felt a little out of place for me. It’s not that i need barney and robin together to enjoy the show, but the way he treated robin so insensitively so soon after their break-up, it felt wrong.
And after 5 years, i never thought i would say this but as funny as this episode was, Barney’s womanizing is getting pathetic.

  64.  Meister | November 17, 2009 @ 12:20 pm

I liked this episode, and being one of those watching it as it broadcasted in the US (I’m in Nebraska at the moment if you are still playing “Where in the World are the have-you-met-ted fans”), I am part of the reason for the explosion of Google searches :) I love how HIMYM rewards its fans by posting everything it mentions online.

I think what Barney said to Robin was genuine. If it wasn’t, she probably would have been included in the playbook as “get ex-girlfriend to say great things about you.

I agree, CBS has been slacking. I’m also in college and not always able to be in my room at 7 PM sharp (and if I missed the start I hate watching just the end of the episode).

  65.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 12:33 pm

I agree fillipa, it would have been hilarious pre Robin and Barney! I hope the writers are going somewhere because right now I am ajust pissed off at them.

I am about to state a very unpopular opinion but I think there was so much of Barney’s personality that was evident when Barney was dating Robin, and I don’t understand why people think he needs to be womanizing to be funny. Yes, their relationship was super dramatic and out of charachter for several episodes, but come on in dual citizenship when Barney did the whole I am going to drill you and than we’re gonna study, or in Robin 101 when he was being a pain in the ass in Ted’s class, or when he went to the strip club. Still so much of Barney was there!

However, despite my mixed feelings, and my anger toward the writers at the end of the day I am so in love with Neil that I still found Barney hilarious in this episode. I did like that the gang was back together. We haven’t seen them in forever in full form.

P.S I am still waiting for a suit up

  66.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 12:37 pm

sorry, i didn’t express it too well: the things he said to robin while doing the scuba diver probably were genuine and heartfelt but the whole setting felt off. he never would’ve said something like that in public, that’s what made it so fake, in a way

  67.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 12:48 pm

Meister, :”where in the world have we met Ted” Awesome line!!

Agreed Katie, it did feel artificial and I saw it coming a mile away, but he definitly meant what he said. I think he uses womanizing as a way to cope with his feelings, i.e. shannon, because he can’t express them (sorry I am a social worker and analyzing human behavior is just automatic for me!)

  68.  Little Barney | November 17, 2009 @ 12:59 pm

    BARNEY IS BACK !!!
    INSANE STORY LINES!!!
    AND NEW PICK UPS

HIMYM IS BACK AND IS AWESOME.

  69.  Filipa | November 17, 2009 @ 1:03 pm

Toby – I understand you. This show spent an entire season building up Barney and Robin, only to tear them so quickly without reason. I don’t think we’re done with the Barney/Robin story and with Robin’s new love interest Don, we’ll see how Barney deals with it. Meanwhile, we’ll have to wait and enjoy the show :)

  70.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 17, 2009 @ 2:01 pm

heyyy haha high hoper suckt it lily just ruled.

and i am from berlin, germany by the way. LOL go europe!!

  72.  Mandi | November 17, 2009 @ 2:07 pm

himym is back! i gotta say i was getting a little nervous at the beginning of the season but last weeks was great. and this weeks. i’m watching it now, am only half way through and it is already one of my favorite episodes. i’m so excited lol

  73.  Jazzer | November 17, 2009 @ 3:13 pm

HIMYM is back baby! And in style too! I just hate it when people (noobs) critique an episode like this, just makes me wanna slap ‘em. It was damn perfect, and I hope JD will think that too.

I’ve been thinking of getting the LEGENDARY just under my neck, abroad my shoulders with a newspaper font like Times New Roman, to make it look formal.
Or some awesome piece of The Bro Code.

  74.  Hey :) | November 17, 2009 @ 3:22 pm

Haha, more people from Europe than from the US here. I finally got time to see the episode, and I liked it. Barney is awesome as ever, but it felt strange since he and Robin broke up such a short time ago. I loved the Playbook, though. I’m really looking forward to the next episode!

  75.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 17, 2009 @ 3:37 pm

IHAVE a letter on every toe…

Maybe I should use a different name :’) (this is only my 3rd comment on the site, i’ve been following it for some time now)

  79.  mayank | November 17, 2009 @ 4:11 pm

Barney is just greatt……and “my Penis grants wishes ” was just out of this world….anyhow the show was awesomely awesome…
The Playbook should be in the musems for guys like us to admire (not kiddin)…
and this DON guy hmmm….you writers are just wicked

P.S my love to everyone on this post

  80.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 4:15 pm

    THE SMOON…i’m still cracking up

  81.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 4:29 pm

from the (removed) wikipedia entry on lorenzo von matterhorn:

Lorenzo was diagnosed with phallumegaly, or bigness of penis disorder. As a result of his illness Lorenzo’s sense of balance frequently shifts, causing short-term memory loss.
    :D

  82.  LiamG | November 17, 2009 @ 4:38 pm

SMOON is one of the funniest things I have ever heard.

No theories about the woman who gave Ted her number??? *lol*

I am from Dresden (Germany) by the way. Ein freundliches Hallo an die deutsche FAn Community ;-)

  83.  katie90 | November 17, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

ja moin :) kaum amerikaner hier, komisch.. egal

my guess is that the writers will come back to that girl in a later episode. like “kids, remember that girl i won over with the ted mosby? well, here’s what happened..” simply bacause i love the jumping back and forth in timelines and stuff. like for example when ted’s non-date with stella (movie theater with all her friends) happens and at first we only see him preparing (and then hearing a LONG story about the platinum rule) and returning from it, only to be shown said date in the next episode. i like stuff like that and the writers are so good at it

now it’s time for some prof(f)essor ted!!

  84.  R2 Sweet Tooth | November 17, 2009 @ 4:47 pm

This episode was hilarious! All Barney’s disguises as we have seen them have been awesome, and so were the ones in this episode. And the “Lorenzo von Matterhorn” was just brilliant, and also the “My penis grants wishes”. And of course the “Ted Mosby”, with his typical checkered shirt and t-shirt under.
Marshall sure has gone weird in a fun way the last seasons, his Stephen King comment was just weird and random, but still made me laugh :D .

Jazzer: Funfact: The third one that would be, there’s also “Bro on The go” ;) .

  85.  Teddyboy | November 17, 2009 @ 5:43 pm

First post here, helloooo!(as ranjid would say…). Awesome blog, what a pitty that JD is very very busy! :)

This episode was just…amazingly awesome! As katie90 said, congrats to the writers, i love these twisted and at the first moment confusing stories of HIMYM!

Really laughed about the several-voices-singing, the ted-mosby-method and the “sonofabiitch”-parts! :D

Like Mr. Lorenzo von Matterhorn, I’m from Switzerland. Europe ROCKS!:) (in fact, it doesn’t.) The german translation of the show was really really bad, so I switched over…and stayed!

Oh, one question: did Alyson Hannigan pump up her lips? somethings different…isn’t it? o.O

  86.  Jazzer | November 17, 2009 @ 5:53 pm

^ You lost me. =] What Bro on the go? I never saw a play named like that.

  87.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 6:30 pm

Bro on the Go is the new Barney book

  88.  Jazzer | November 17, 2009 @ 7:27 pm

^ Nope, still lost. =] Anyway, tons of new readers, welcome. Can’t wait for the 4th slap next week. xD

  89.  High Hoper | November 17, 2009 @ 7:47 pm

Wow, I love reading your comments (again)

I’m gonna have a cup of scoffee, if you know what I mean :P

Probably will rewatch the episode and then get the new V.

BTW/ I was almost about to do the “he’s not coming” in a famous shop here in Spain where people usually meet in the lobby. I played the Have-you-met-XXXXX line about 2 years ago, although it did not work LOL

  90.  Toby | November 17, 2009 @ 8:01 pm

Maybe you guys don’t have it in Europe, but they published a book about two years ago called the Bro Code and they just came out with Bro on the Go which is supposed to be based on Barney’s play group.

So random, but my roommate has a friend named Robin, and she said to me “Have you met Robin.” I started laughing hysterically for like 5 minutes and they both looked at me like I came from another planet

  91.  High Hoper | November 17, 2009 @ 8:37 pm

    I got it from Amazon.

  92.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 18, 2009 @ 12:37 am

Uh… I haven’t bothered to comment because Toby is stating my opinions word for word. Which is kind of weird….. But in the spirit of Swarkles support, I will just say ditto.
That is hilarious about “have you met Robin!” I would have died laughing!
And I never heard about Bro on the Go either. That’s interesting.

  93.  Meister | November 18, 2009 @ 2:18 am

I saw the Bro on the Go on the CBS website a couple of weeks ago. Is there a lot of new stuff or does it repeat much from the Bro Code? I couldn’t tell from the description they gave.

  94.  Jazzer | November 18, 2009 @ 3:40 am

Yeah I also bought the Bro Code (genius investment), but I never got a Bro on the Go, only a audio disc with NPH reading through the book and it’s rules and articles.

  95.  Jazzer | November 18, 2009 @ 4:03 am

What the hell? How did I find out about Bro on the Go, now? Damnit, Jim… Also, did you guys know there’s the Brocabulary! =]

  96.  Jazzer | November 18, 2009 @ 6:08 am

Holy crap, just found something. =D Some people probably did too, but since I never saw this on here, I feen the need to share.

In the spirit of these websites, I’ll transcribe “The Lorenzo Von Matterhorn” play here:

“To perform The Lorenzo Von Matterhorn, here’s what you’ll need:

    - Basic knowledge of website design and a very unique fake name. So, think of your fake name right now. Have you got it? Good.

Now, select your target. Prefferably a girl with a real nice, phone.

    Sample Dialog:

    Lorenzo: Yeah it’s me.

    Target: Do I know You?

    Lorenzo: I’m Lorenzo Von Matterhorn…

Target: Are you, like, famous, or something?

Lorenzo: Yes… You really don’t know who I am, do you? What a refreshing change of pace. Nice to meet you. Once again I’m Lorenzo Von Matterhorn. Spells like it sounds, two T’s. Lorenzo, Von Matterhorn. Ciao.

Then, as soon as you’re gone, she get’s out her phone, and does an internet search for Lorenzo Von Matterhorn. And that’s when she discovers, a series of fake websites, all devoted to the incredible life of Lorenzo Von Matterhorn.

There’s the fake business article about Lorenzo, the reclusive billionare ; The fake explorers club newsletter describing his balloon to the north poll as a feet of pure daring and imagination ; The fake medical journal featuring a hart-breaking story of doctors telling him penis reduction surgery is not an option.

And by the time you get back:

Lorenzo: Hi, *insert target name here*, I hate to be forward but, can I buy you a cup of coffee? And it is on!

Sorry for the lenght of the comment, but I suppose most people will like it. =] Cheers.

  97.  Fabio | November 18, 2009 @ 7:13 am

Finally watched the episode and i can now read the comments hehehe….

Got nothing to say right now, though.

  98.  Fabio | November 18, 2009 @ 7:15 am

Just remembered something. How awesome was Ted&Marshall making fun of Robin saying she’d meet the love of her life. And Marshall’s speech about the frozen pancakes… hahahahaha

  99.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 9:55 am

Sorry Jenn!!!!! I guess great minds think alike :) . I am glad that there are a few people here who agree with me about swarkles (Katie, you rock for bringing that term in here)

I haven’t read Bro on The Go yet, but my friend, who got me into HIMYM and is a more in love with Barney than I am, has it. I am going to borrow it from her when she is done. It just came out recently.

  100.  SophiaStinsssooon | November 18, 2009 @ 10:07 am

hmmm i think i read ‘swarkles’ on this blog earlier. …

    Oder katie?

  101.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 1:39 pm

ich weiß es nicht, ich hatte es glaube ich in den imdb-foren gelesen :)
but it’s funny that everyone uses it now

  102.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 1:41 pm

    ummmmm not everyone speaks German!

  103.  Billiam | November 18, 2009 @ 2:10 pm

  104.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 2:10 pm

which is why we say most of the stuff in english :D
wasn’t important, just told her i got swarkles off of the imdb boards

  105.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 2:12 pm

Sorry, I was being bitchy! I hate when I don’t understand what people say.

You non Americans or non British people write English very well. I would never have known English wasn’t your first language

  106.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 2:22 pm

yeah i wouldn’t have guessed most of these people aren’t american either. still find it kind of weird that most of us aren’t from the US, though, but it says a lot about the universal humor of the show :) the german dubbing ruins most shows that are supposed to be funny. you just can’t translate words and phrases like “awesome” and “suit up”! they’re embarassingly unfunny in german (it was the same with “friends”, from the tv version i never would’ve guessed how brilliant it is! so glad i started buying the dvds..)

    billiam: what’s so funny?

  107.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 18, 2009 @ 2:23 pm

yeah toby and actually all thanks to how i met your mother LOL

well i never sucked at english, i was actually pretty good and fluent but when you watch how i met your mother EVERYDAY for about a year youll definately get better :-D

  108.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 2:26 pm

I can imagine, Humor always gets lost in translation! It’s cool you guys understand it in English :) . I hope no one gets offended by Barny’s stereotyping of anyone who is not American.

I really need to learn Spanish. Is there a Tv show out there I could watch everyday so I can learn Spanish? Maybe I should get into the Soap Operas on the Spanish Channel!

  109.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 2:40 pm

funny, for me the show that taught me english was friends, like, ten years ago. you miss out on so much when you watch these shows dubbed! i’m always trying to get people to watch himym in english cause i know so many who don’t like it based on the german version. but everyone i’ve gotten to watch it in english is totally blown away! i don’t think barney’s really offending to anyone, it’s all fun and not meant to harm anybody.

it’s difficult with spanish, i guess. um, maybe the original version of ugly betty? that’s from argentina, right?

  110.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 2:49 pm

I watched two and half men dubbed in Spanish when I was there over the summer, but I found it really annoying! I can imagine HIMYM is probably a lot more annoying

  111.  Tash | November 18, 2009 @ 3:07 pm

    @ Arxel:
HA! I can’t believe you noticed that, that’s hilarious! He really doesn’t have batteries in the controller!

Just a couple of quick things:
Who does this DON guy think he is…? :P

    Slap bet next week? AHyaaaaa!

I really liked this episode, it brought a lot of things back to the show that I felt were missing, and Lily is starting to grow on me…a little.

And finally: JD, where are you?? :(

  112.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 3:10 pm

I feel like starting a facebook group called We hate Don!

  113.  Tash | November 18, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

I would join that facebook group.

  114.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 18, 2009 @ 3:33 pm

ahaha r u kidding i looove weird funny stereotypes.

but i really love when i hear german terms in an all english series…like when heidi klum “translated” the yips. LOL or with lance hardwood, before that episode i didnt even now that doppelganger is also english :-D

well, as my last comment on this Post:

happy that the show seems to be on the right path again (never doubted the writers though) and that this forum is getting cuter, more adorable from day to day

    *hugs to all*

    see you….soon…. *SLAP*

  115.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 18, 2009 @ 3:35 pm

oh and ‘WILLKOMMEN to the bathroom’ hehe

he mustve remembered that from cabaret

  116.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 3:50 pm

lol yeah i know what you mean! but heidi’s english is terrible as well – don’t know how she managed to live over there for as long as she has and still sound so..sooo..GERMAN. apparently, they also use “gesundheit” over there for when someone sneezes. right?

the funniest thing was when ted mentioned to barneys fake wife he saw her in bertolt brechts “die heilige johanna der schlachthöfe”. i had to rewind cause i was like..what the hell, was that supposed to be german?!

on that note, did you by any chance see “the accidental husband”? some romantic comedy with uma thurman. anyway, there’s a “german” lady in there – played by isabella rosselini. i don’t really mind bad pronunciation when american shows or movies have a german character but come on, she’s italian! not even close, guys.. lol

  117.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 3:53 pm

PS: aaand “spiel”. barney used it in this ep, “give them some spiel about deep-seated insecurities”

i think i’ll follow in your foot steps and stop commenting until the next ep. caus thet one’s truly gonna be legen—(you know what’s coming)

  118.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 4:34 pm

I actually know a few words in German, but not much.

Heidi Klum does have a pretty heavy accent.

I don’t know how many of you have heard of Project Runway, but she hosts it, and I find her irritating (having nothing to do with her accent she is just really irritating.)

  119.  katie90 | November 18, 2009 @ 4:44 pm

thank you!! i fell like everyone (at least the media) in germany loves her but she annoys the hell out of me (in english and in german). she’s the host of germany’s next top model.. the show’s certainly a guilty pleasure of mine but i cannot stand that woman. plus, all the supermodels at that party were much prettier, i’ll never understand why barney hit on her ;)

  120.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 6:29 pm

no, I hate her!!!! Every time she says bye she sounds so whiny.

  121.  Fabio | November 18, 2009 @ 7:35 pm

    “hell no…hell no…. hell no… hell nooooooo”

Why do you wanna start a facebook group called “i had Don” Toby? Sorry, i missed the rest of the comments and just read yours…. hauehuaehuahe

  122.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 7:42 pm

Did I say that? I meant I HATE Don. Because he isn’t Barney and he is ugly. If he as hot I might be able to get on board with this storyline.

  123.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 18, 2009 @ 11:12 pm

    haha i had don

  124.  Toby | November 18, 2009 @ 11:59 pm

Ok, I just checked. I did not say “I had done Fabio” :P

  125.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 19, 2009 @ 12:58 am

Haha- I just checked the last comment to see if anything was new and read “I did not say ‘I had done Fabio.’” Since I didn’t realize “Fabio” had commented I thought, “well this should be interesting….”
JD, when you get caught up on work, it might be fun to put up a poll for a week or two and see where everyone’s from.
I’m excited for the Thanksgiving episode, Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap! Sounds like a “hit!” …..yeah I don’t know why I said that last part…

  126.  Toby | November 19, 2009 @ 1:17 am

LOL, I realized after I hit submit that I put the quotation in the wrong place. It as supposed to say I did not say “I had Don” Fabio!

I am also excited for Slapsgiving 2 Jenn, but that shouldn’t be shocking since we think alike!

  127.  katie90 | November 19, 2009 @ 4:48 am

ok since we’re (kind of) on the topic on ugly don..can someone please comment on how NOT cute shelley was? :P it’s been driving me crazy that no one has said anything about her

  128.  Michl | November 19, 2009 @ 5:18 am

rewatched this episode twice last night, the best in season 5 so far.

greets to all the german readers in here. I’m living in the middle of bavaria ;-)

  129.  Fabio | November 19, 2009 @ 7:17 am

hahahaha no idea why i wrote “had” instead of “hate”….

I don’t know… i did not that much problem with Don’s appearance…he looks like a normal (charming?) guy to me…. As for Shelley, not one of my favorites…both Ted and Barney can do better than her…

I wonder if Don’s gonna be sort of a regular on the show from now on…what do u guys think? Assuming he’ll end up with Robin, i expect to see him pretty regularly in the next episodes… :)

    Fabio

  130.  GT | November 19, 2009 @ 8:11 am

hey, am i the only one who thinks that claire might join the group? i mean, they’re one woman down compared to the dudes. and she seemed really cool in the last ep, i wouldnt really mind if she did.

and don? yeah, if he starts seeing robin, he definitely will appear more

  131.  GT | November 19, 2009 @ 8:59 am

non americans and non British? haha…
i was born in britain, i just travel a lot. i’m italian actually

  132.  Toby | November 19, 2009 @ 9:12 am

I’m sure that Don is going to be around for a bit, but I doubt he has any long term significance.

I can’t see them adding anyone new to the group at this point except maybe the mother.

Yes, Shelly wasn’t so pretty but Barney said he wanted her for her phone!

  133.  Jazzer | November 19, 2009 @ 9:25 am

^ Nooo, she’s a one night stand. She’s just ”another girl” in the show, nothing more. I’m more concerned about Don, he will either become a part of the cast, or just a Stella for Robin.

  134.  Michl | November 19, 2009 @ 11:37 am

@jazzer: i don’t think so. can’t remember any of Barneys One night stands been given so much air time than her. perhaps, there could’ve been a hint for the mother, when ted said “do i wanna date a girl barney hooked up with ” (or something like that) that we are going to meet claire again in the next episodes. think she’s kind a cute … *g*

  135.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 19, 2009 @ 11:50 am

Well…here i am again…i absolutely HATED this shelley girl. really weird looking girl and ugh.

I ALSO HATED claire, she sitting in the booth with the others looked totally weird and she looked out of place and both boing AND bored!!

and don…meh bleh just normal guy, not robim worthy….but hey she does have w eird taste in men…..the iron hockey guy, the naked man, gael, bob, they all sucked

  136.  SophiaVonMatterhorn | November 19, 2009 @ 11:51 am

oh forgot to say that shelley must be the prototype for the crazy eyes rule

wow, she had some crazy effing eyes

  137.  Toby | November 19, 2009 @ 12:08 pm

Of course non of Robin’s guys are going any good. They aren’t Barney!!!!

I read on EW’s website that the writers claim Don is going to stick around for a while. That did not make me happy.

  138.  Fabio | November 19, 2009 @ 12:34 pm

I think adding a new person to the group would mess up the group dynamic…i don’t know…would just feel weird… i agree with Sophia, that Claire girl was not comfortable around everybody on the booth…

What bugs me is the way old-ted said the name “Don”…. by that i inferred he’d be “the one” for Robin, but now that i think about it, maybe he’s not… i’m all confused lol…

Maybe i agree with Jazzer; Don can be just another Stella on the show…

    Fabio :)

Ted was probably being an unreliable narrator. I took it to mean they were making fun of her the whole episode, and she was so insistent she was never dating again, and than boom she met someone she wants to date.

  140.  High Hoper | November 19, 2009 @ 1:21 pm

don is gonna stay for a little while.

  141.  BGeo | November 19, 2009 @ 1:26 pm

We may not add anyone to the group at this point, but lets face it… Marshall and Lily are getting older, and at some point they’re going to have kids

  142.  Teddyboy | November 19, 2009 @ 2:08 pm

…and they’re gonna name the boy “Insanely Awesome”! ^^

what’s the matter with Don guys?

  143.  katie90 | November 19, 2009 @ 2:55 pm

i thought they were gonna name em frickin’ and totally :D

  144.  Teddyboy | November 19, 2009 @ 4:14 pm

oh…that could be…insanely would be a LITTLE offending for the kid! ;)

  145.  katie90 | November 19, 2009 @ 4:56 pm

ah i really don’t know. i just hope ted gets his wife to name the kids luke and leia :D

  146.  Jazzer | November 19, 2009 @ 5:50 pm

    JD, you have dissapointed me.

At least tell us why the hold up, at least that. =]

  147.  Jazzer | November 19, 2009 @ 6:21 pm

Also, I’m working on a real disscusion forum. If JD gives it the green lights it will be awesome. =D I don’t know about you guys, but having this much disscusions in the comments seciton is not right. If we had a board then we could easily organize posts, and be up to date with things, while using the comments section only for brief thoughts about the ep, and longer thoughts on the forum.

    What do you guys think?

  148.  Toby | November 19, 2009 @ 7:54 pm

    That would be cool :)

J.D, I know your busy, and I don’t mean to sound like a nag, but I am really curious about your opinion on the break up. No rush though :) .

  149.  Purple Giraffe | November 20, 2009 @ 3:56 am

So why does everybody hate Don so much? He was on screen for a grand total of about 3.4 seconds. And even if he is actually “the one” for Robin, that doesn’t mean that he has to be on the show all the time. Maybe they will start off in a casual relationship that will progress into something more serious in the next couple of seasons. Anyways I just didn’t quite understand why everyone seems to hate him so much already.

and just in case anyone was wondering, the actress who played the girl shelley with the crazy eyes is Susan Sarandon’s daughter. I think her name is Eva Amurri. She’s definitely not the most attractive person ever but besides her crazy eyes I don’t think she’s ugly or anything. And she’s also a good actress. If anybody’s ever seen the movie Saved, she’s in that and it’s really funny.

  150.  katie90 | November 20, 2009 @ 4:25 am

YES!! Saved. Thank you. That was bugging me, I knew I knew her from somewhere :D

  151.  katie90 | November 20, 2009 @ 4:28 am

btw i wouldn’t have commented on her looks if they hadn’t insisted on how cute she is.. i was like, what?! lily deemed her hot enough to keep her around for three years as a possible date for ted?

  152.  ...and It is ON | November 20, 2009 @ 4:58 am

Hiya there, first time poster. I felt I should point out sth: Eva Amurri (crazy eyes Lorenzo’s victim) is actually sort of a nice lassie. Check out Californication Season 3 to prove my point.

Another transeuropean here, Spaniard as well. This is for TOBY who was looking for a funny sit-com in spanish. I was thinking of “LA QUE SE AVECINA” and for a proper jaw-dropping film you should go for “PAGAFANTAS”

What do you Spaniards think? Im usually more keen on American series but I think this two are quite easy to pick for the universal humor they display, and real funny too.

btw.: how great are the fake (did I say fake?) Lorenzo’s sites? :D

  153.  Fabio | November 20, 2009 @ 6:35 am

Well said purple giraffe…. maybe that’s how Robin&Don’s relationship will begin….

Hahahaha Katie90…that was bugging me A LOT too…. i saw her and i knew i’d seen her on some random movie…didn’t realize she was Susan Sarandon’s daughter though…..

Jazzer.. as for your idea…. i think it’s great! I also think there must be a more practical way to organize our discussions!!

    Fabio :)

  154.  Jazzer | November 20, 2009 @ 7:32 am

    ^ Lorenzo rocks! xD

Anyway, do you guys want a forum or not?

  155.  katie90 | November 20, 2009 @ 8:16 am

hm, actually, i like this better than forums. plus, 160 posts a week don’t translate into multiple topics getting filled. plus, i don’t know why but i don’t know a single board that’s as nice as these comment sections. people always get mean in forums. i like it here :)

  156.  Fabio | November 20, 2009 @ 8:24 am

true….and most of the times we don’t even get to 100 comments… But i don’t know….i’m up for anything!

    Any update on JD’s status?

  157.  Toby | November 20, 2009 @ 8:38 am

Thanks for the recommendation!!! I will check it out.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I hate Don because I am pissed about how the B&R relationship as handled, and now they are bringing in a new guy and inferring he might be the one??? Although I doubt he is the one because of the history of the writers screwing with their audience.

  158.  CourtneyE | November 20, 2009 @ 11:45 am

I firmly believe that Don’s not THE ONE. He’s “the one” to eventually bring Swarkles back together. I’m calling it now. Those two end up together.

  159.  Toby | November 20, 2009 @ 12:02 pm

I hope your right Courtney :)

  160.  Jazzer | November 20, 2009 @ 2:34 pm

Well, the comments section isn’t made for all discussion, ever. If you didn’t notice we are discussing Don, shelly, the episode, RoBarn breakup, and tons of other things here, where those things shouldn’t be.

  161.  High Hoper | November 20, 2009 @ 3:04 pm

As far as I know, he is enjoying his new Apple mouse :P

  162.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 20, 2009 @ 11:30 pm

I think it’s so funny that Chloe, you know, the girl with the crazy eyes forever ago, is now an Alien on V. It looks like it wasn’t just Ted and Barney that noticed something was off with those eyes!

  163.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 20, 2009 @ 11:42 pm

I don’t think we should get too upset about Don yet… although I’m fighting that instinct hard because I wanted Robin and Barney to be together…. but things are never quite how they seem in narration the week before. Remember all the times that Ted says “and it’s a good thing I did, because that’s where ______.” And then it turns out to be something that leads to meeting the mother in a totally different way. Like the time that Stella turned out to be under the umbrella, and it was her boyfriend who gave him the job so the mom could awkwardly recognize him later or something. A lot of things are important to Ted because they signify the journey which leads to the destination. For all we know Don is important because he used to be the mother’s dentist! Although I am pretty sure he will date Robin in some fashion, but hopefully that will lead her or Barney to the realization that they want to be together. I think the writers will see how audiences respond and then write in the connection that was so important to Ted.
Wow, sorry that was really long.

  164.  katie90 | November 21, 2009 @ 2:17 pm

soo, jazzer, in that case – ever noticed that little button on top that says “forum”? :D click on that and go nuts with separate topics!

  165.  mayank | November 21, 2009 @ 4:49 pm

I also want robin and barney back together….i love them as a couple plus their (neil’s and cobie’s) on-screen chemistry is superb..Don must be a small time thats it

  166.  Toby | November 21, 2009 @ 6:31 pm

I don’t want to post Spoilers, but to let people know there is an article by aussielo on EW.com in which they talk about the reason behind the abrupt Barney and Robin breakup. If any of you non Americans can’t access it let me know and I will email it to you :) .

Jenn, I agree with you about Don not being as significant as it sounds, but I am not holding out any hope that his significance brings Barney and Robin back together.

  167.  Toby | November 21, 2009 @ 7:06 pm

BTW Katie, this is so off topic but i turned on the Tv today and some stupid Lifetime movie was on, but Ted’s daughter was in it. I thought about you because you said you missed the kids! She was also in season 4 of Desperate Housewives.

  168.  Jazzer | November 21, 2009 @ 7:57 pm

@katie90: BBPress is designed for small projects, and even smaller discussions. This isn’t exactly a small community, countless people post here, and BbPress isn’t designed for that much posting.

=] Anyway, a few days away from the 4th slap!!

  169.  Jenn- GCWOK Approved | November 22, 2009 @ 3:53 am

I thought I was done talking about “Swarkles,” but I checked out that article at ew.com and I liked one of the comments by chickie1105. They said, “The only reason the relationship got boring and needed to end was because the writer’s completely changed the personalities of Barney and Robin. I really loved watching Barney pine for Robin through season 4, and even in the first few episodes of season 5 they’re chemistry as a couple was great. Then the writer’s decided to completely change how Robin and Barney act together. So yeah I’m not surprised they broke them up.”
I thought it was stated perfectly.
Now I won’t say another word on the subject. Probably. :) (Ted, the youngest architect ever to design a building over 70 stories probably!)

  170.  katie90 | November 22, 2009 @ 4:50 am

toby: haha, thanks, i should check the housewives out then! but it seems like we’ll get them back from time to time on himym, too. i was so happy when we saw them two weeks ago :D i know they don’t talk or anything but their appearance helps with the big picture, i think, it reminds me: ok, this is ted telling a story and he’s gonna meet the mother eventually. sometimes that gets lost in all the stand-alona-episodes

  171.  BHR | November 22, 2009 @ 12:56 pm

I like the way it sais “I you enjoyed this post, make sure you…”. The truth is I didn’t enjoy this one.

  172.  Jazzer | November 22, 2009 @ 2:08 pm

A few hours ago I saw NPH in a movie when he was like, 15. Weirdest 5 minutes of my life.

  173.  Toby | November 22, 2009 @ 2:53 pm

I was so pissed off at that article because i felt they were making excuses for their crappy writing and failing to make Barney and Robin Legendairy! However, I was happy that Bays said their story isn’t over, but I am not holding out any hope that it will happen anytime in the near future.

    Can’t wait for Slapsgiving!

  174.  Nonblonde | November 22, 2009 @ 9:53 pm

Okay, so I just wanted to add myself to the international fanbase! HIMYM is a popular show here in sweden aswell :)

About the episode: I’m not sure if I have anything new to add to the comments of this weeks episode. But I too feel like the break-up of Swarkles is treated as if it just is something the writers want us to forget, or maybe even something they’d like to undo… I mean, it’s the episode right after their break up and they’re already hinting that Robin soon will meet someone new and (probably) important, and Barney has very quickly gone back to being.. well, Barney.

I’m not complaining (of obvious reasons), but I liked Barney when he was human you know, with real feelings. It just added more dimension to his character, made him more believable. I would’ve liked maybe just one episode where Barney goes through all the things you typically go through when you’ve broken up with someone, but in his own way. The guy hasn’t broken up with anyone during his life as Barney as we know him; it would have been natural for him to feel a little insecure So yeah – an episode where we see how Barney copes with the break-up – imagine the hilarious breakdowns, the drunken phonecalls, the meaningless one night-stands where he calls the girls Robin… anything!!

I’m sure it would’ve been great, and as I said, it would have been more believeable. But, I guess it’s okay, I love Barney and the episode WAS great (“He’s not coming… She’s not coming?”)!

  175.  katie90 | November 23, 2009 @ 10:40 am

guys, notice how this site has become just as much ours as it is JDs? i mean, just read these comments, basically everyone on here has already written a review at least the length of JDs weekly musings :) this has become a fun little community and while i’m truly sorry JD’s not around like he used to, the lack of someone posting has really driven us to discuss more, i kind of like it

  176.  High Hoper | November 23, 2009 @ 11:59 am

    Everyone ready for tonight?

I would like some slappetizers XD

  177.  Toby | November 23, 2009 @ 12:20 pm

Im with you Katie! I used to not like this site because I thought it was a little too harsh, but I have grown to like it a lot. I also enjoy having conflicting opinions because it flexes my debating muscles!

  178.  katie90 | November 23, 2009 @ 12:55 pm

hehe, debating muscles, i like that :)
and: hell yeah! i’m setting my alarm clock to 3:30 german time (to make sure it’s up by then) and rockin’ slapsgiving! i hardly ever to that and instead watch the show in the morning (did it last for the season premiere) but slapsgiving is worth it..or at least it should be but i have total faith in the writers with this one!!

  179.  Toby | November 23, 2009 @ 1:20 pm

getting up at 3:30 am is what I call commitment! I am excited because I don’t have my 9pm client this evening so I will be able to watch it when I get home around 930.

  180.  Hey:) | November 23, 2009 @ 5:16 pm

I’m really looking forward to tonights episode :)
But i have exam week, so i’m not gonna stay up till 3:30.
Maybe i’ll watch it at breakfast :’)

  181.  High Hoper | November 23, 2009 @ 8:47 pm

Another monday till 3.30 for me :)

I am wondering… if JD does not open another thread, what about posting in the forum rather than here?
