As was reported late last night on the official HIMYM Twitter and Facebook pages, the show has been picked up for another season. This is great news for us, them, and the world. Remember the old days when the show was on the bubble?

    I am happy as long as the show gets back on track for me.
    Although it’s been a hard time this season, I think the writers have an enormous finale prepared for us and more adventures to come.
    From now on, I’ll try to balance how I feel the episodes and how I write here, to non-seem-all-negative.

    It would appear that Craig and Carter are going to be able to keep making the show as long as they want at this point. What r u feelin? 9 seasons? That’s how long Seinfeld ran.

    In my opinion they need to finish this season up strong, and then call season 6 it’s final season. It’s a great show, and 6 seasons would be a great run, and I REALLY don’t want them to have another dull moment in the show. First half of season 5 has been God-awful, and if they start climaxing the whole show’s storyline soon, I’ll be happy with a good finish.

    i agree, season 6 should more than definitely be the last one. i don’t want it to end after these five, mainly, because it wouldn’t to a great show justice to end on such a mediocre note. i want them to get it together and produce 20 great episodes for season 6 and then just wrap it up, himym-style!!

    I love this show, but I feel it broke with the break up of Barney and Robin. I hope it was temporary and that they get back on the track with that (haven’t seen the last two episodes yet, so it might have happened things I don’t know of). I do agree with many other, season six ought to be the final, you can’t drag out the story forever. I’d love a grand finale where Ted gets his girl, Marshal and Lilly are a couple (well we already know they will remain together) and Barney and Robin get hooked together for real.
    However: I feel the story telling with all it’s flashbacks, alternative viewpoints etc is unique among sitcoms, and the chemistry between the five in the team is quite astounding, so I would love to see a spin off which pretty much follows the same pattern, just having a new story line.

    Yeah! As for the comments above, I would want the show to last as long as the producers have ideas for new episodes. Which can be up to Season 10, or even 110.

    Its certainly nice there isn’t any worry about whether it’ll get another season or not! Personally I’d be happy if they go to season 7 and then finish things there. I don’t think the concept of the show could go on much longer after that, but another couple seasons would be more than enough to round things up and hopefully provide a few laughs along the way. Although I could change my mind by the end of season 5!

    Carter has hinted at HIMYM topping out at 8 seasons. Can they do it? I think so. I know I’ll be excited to watch!

    It is so awesome that they got renewed this fast. Last year I was freaking out waiting for it in May.

    I am in the seven season camp; i think there is a bit more there to go til season 7, but after that I think they need to end. I hate when shows drag things out longer than they should, i.e. scrubs.

    i am in total agreement about Barney and Robin. That needs to get back on track, but not til the last season.

    While I think they should end the plot line of meeting the mother by season 7, I think they should just keep right on going with the story after that. They could add a few more seasons of How I Married Your Mother or- Ohh!! Ohh!!! How I Met Your BROTHER- of him telling his daughter about his life after meeting the mother and having the two kids. I think the current plot line has been dragged out for about as long as it can go, but they could keep going with a great show with just a little different directive.

    Yeah, y’know, they could keep on producing after Ted meet’s the mother, as in how his children were born and so on. But there is a need for that. I’d rather have a few episodes after he meet’s the mother about how Barney, Robin, Lily and Marshall go on with they’re lives.

    Carter Bays said in the beginning that they didn’t want the show to run long since it would make ted seem really messed up and bad at dating. I love the show but it seems that lately they have been grasping for outlandish ideas that are more hit or miss and not as consistently hilarious as the were in the beginning. I would be happy with finishing strong next year, and at most 7 seasons. Any more, and they would be getting way too old. Teds kids look mid-teens in the year 2030, which puts their birth around 2013-15ish. So one or two more seasons makes sense…

    I would be really happy if they announced that season six would be the last and they started to close the story. I love the show but the number of 1 offs is too much. The show is treading water in the same way that Lost was in season 3.

    i hope this isn’t turning out like scrubs,where they started to tell the same ass-boring stories over and over again,because they ran out of ideas,but not of airtime,and where the only reason to keep watching was the hope that j.d. and elliot would FINALLY get their happy ending…i’d love lo see teds happy ending before i can’t stand to see HIM anymore….

    I don’t feel like it would be too “Scrubs- New Class” because it would all be the exact same cast and everything- just freedom to move past the restriction of that one pivotal story-line. I think it’d really be the exact same as this. We’ve seen Ted when he’s hooked up before; as long as the mom has good chemistry with the group then it’d be pretty much like when he was with Robin. I just feel bad that they think they have to end the show so he can meet his wife.

    It is nice that HIMYM will have another season.. But I am in agreement with all of the others. 6 seasons is enough for HIMYM, because if they continue the story even longer, the people will get bored. And I want Robin and Barney back together, their short legendary relationship should be rekindled. In the end, Barney should change his habit of sleeping with a lot of women and settle down with Robin. Long live the BRomance!

    I think that the show could go alot longer than 6 seasons i dont think it was boring at all this season i thought the Barney and Robin relationship was a great idea for this. But i definatly dont think that they will end up together and it wouldnt fit with the show, the writers have said that this show is supposed to show that “it would be nice if things were like that, but thats just not how life works” and with barney and robin they fell in love so quickly and it didnt work it would have been great if they did but life just doesnt work that way thats my favorite part of the show

    no way! barney and robin don’t belong together at all!
    barney is a womanizer and while i thought he was tacky at first, now it’s just him – and in a realistic world, it would be a sad life to live out til old age.
    but for the show, it eliminated all his picking up antics and i don’t think being in a couple suited him.
    as for ted, i would definitely love to see more about him meeting and dating the mother. i loved the episode where he only glimpsed her ankle and all the things that he learnt about her, that were perfect for him!
    makes me think about the random occurences in my life as i’m compiling my one little ‘how i met your father’ story for my future children!

    Its not about ted meeting his wife, its about the journey!!! and its funny as hell, S5 was not boring to me. Neither was scrubs!

    Beh, comedy shows are not about romance, so thats not the end goal!!!

    I really want to see Ted and Robin together in the end. I know this show is about comedy and not a usual romance. However, I think the way Ted and Robin have been shown together, they share a subtle level of serious admiration. While Robin might be dating other guys, she still admires Ted. And same is the case with Ted for Robin. There might be twists and turns in the story, but seeing these two together will make it a real feel-good sitcom, as it has always been.

    And yes, I agree that S6 should be the last one. Over-dragging the storyline will spoil the beauty of the show.

    And man, Robin is soooooo hot!! Cobie is hot, and Robin’s character makes her look like the Goddess of hotness :D

    For all of you who thinks that Robin will be Teds’ wife: THEY WONT!
    If you’ve watched all the episodes until now, you should know that it’s 0% chance Robin is the wife.

    1. In one episode, Ted sees a glimpse of his future wifes ankle.
    She was a roommate with another girl Ted was dating, so there’s no way it could be Robin.

    2. He refers to Robin as “aunt” Robin when he speaks to his kids.

    3. In the latest episode (lesser SPOILER ALERT)

    Ted and Robin almost kiss eachother but Robin starts to laugh at Teds blonde hair and Ted explains to his kids that the blonde hair prevented him from doing something they both would regret.

    I don’t think people understand that everyone has different opinions of the show overall, some think it’s getting and some think it can last a few more season.

    Personally i can say that the show is still awesome, i hope it stays good with season 6 but that it can go up to season 7 with a totally new idea (perhaps met the wife) but… What if he cheats on her! That’ll just bring a whole new idea into the series haha xD (Personally i dont like cheating and im not making it seem as a good idea, but for the show it might be used well).

    I have been watching himym since season 1..i feel it is an awesome show and want it to continue forever…but then that is sth not practical and unrealistic.Episodes of himym grab u right right from the start…and i believe we all can realize the hard work that goes into the making of such a perfect and great show…..writers,actors, directors and every other crew member who put their precious effort to connect with common people, reflecting through day to day characters like.ted,robin,lily & marshall,via this great show.

    hey guys…I love the show.. and it should have as many seasons as possible but technically it cant.. he is telling the story to his kids… the title says 2030.. and the kids might be 15 or 18 years old, n he wanted to first get married then have kids so its another year… so it comes like it cant be loger then to 2012 or 2011… but who knows…
    But I love it anyway and I am pumped about the new season. Cant wait!

    I just wish the show goes on and on and on and the creative team can come up with newer ideas for exhibiting the chemistry between the Hi-Five mates and also give enough justice on how ted wooed the mother of his children ……..

    I am quite excited about this season.. cant wait to see who is the MOTHER (i havent watchced last few episodes of season 5) i think the season 6 should not be stretched to season 7.. otherwise the magic in the show would vanish.. well.. Lastly m dying to see the LEGENDARY person on the show.. Barney… i guess this season is totally gonna be the most Awesomest season of all…

    For those assuming Ted is gonna marry Robin. There’s no way it could happen. He refers to her as Aunt Robin, and remember that episode when Robin couldnt deal with kids. Ted said “but she finally made her peace with kids” and they showed a picture of “US AND AUNT ROBIN” .

    hmm i think what ultra_fan suggests would be an interesting twist in to the story and i would love to see it happen, I am all for robin and ted and would love if they would be together. I personally don’t see it happening, but i would love for it to happen.

    actually now that i think of it that theory is wrong.. he always refers to lily as: your aunt lily.

    Watched every episode and enjoyed each and every one of them.The show is enticing because of the way the actors’ role-play is , whatever the twists i will keep watching it.I look forward to the next season, although i would really like to know who the mother is since she’s referred pretty often and i couldn’t find any info about her on wiki or other sources.
    Also,i think Robin should remain Barman’s sidekick, i don’t know they just seemed right for each other.
    In my opinion How i met your mother is way better than Seinfeld/Friends, or maybe it’s just me, a few years back they seemed hilarious but now the jokes and the humor in them seems just dull compared to the insane,well thought jokes that literally(“not figurately ” those who watched the show know what i mean)blow you away.
    The actors are all sensational but really Neil Patrick Harris is something else, i have seen him in movies(i disliked his role in starship troopers) before but i never thought as such a good actor, honest to god except johnny depp and anthony hopkins i never thought highly about the “act” of male actors and neither did my fiancee but really barney is our favorite character and the role “suits”(yes these barney jokes catch on) him (even though he’s a bit derranged ).
    PS:If you liked the show don’t “download all 5 seasons” , buy it to support the developers.

    Wow! I’m so excited for Season 6! I would love to see Robin&Ted getting back together again(they had the special something), but we all know that she’s not gonna be the ‘mother’. The Robin&Barney constellation wasn’t really something I preferred, because I think they are perfect as beeing FRIENDS(they seem to have a brother-sister relation to me..). I think Barney will still be single in 1o years, hopefully not in a charlie sheen way..he has more class…aahh maybe they should make an episode where he is
    (accidentily) hooking up a man, that would be fun! i have noticed some hidden gags about that gay topic.. (o:
    Robin and Don are really cute together,Dawn should get his ass back from Chicago…!And someone should please give Marshall his “balls” back? He was getting too sissy… I mean it was kind of cute,that he is so concerned about stuff, but it was kind of getting too much…on the other hand, lilly sometimes gets too manly..well they two balance..
    And I still cannot find out, what Barneys job/position is?? I would be glad, if they would get back to the roots and didn’t follow 50 stories in one episode ,well…whatevers gonna be, it’s gonna be….great!

    won’t wonder, if story ends up that children are not son and girl of Tedd: this means we all just later will realise he is telling someone’s (Lilly’s or Barney’s) children whole story, but not own.

    Considering last episode of 1 season; when Tedd is calling Robin under the rain, and almost two season they lived together, seemed awesome couple, maked all not only feel funny, but quite romantic, I think HIMYM can’t end in other way or other conclusion, but Robin and Tedd will be together.

    im almost a 100% sure that the kids, to which future ted is talking to, referred to him as dad. even if they didnt, it doesnt matter. they’re clearly their children. ted said that if he hadnt broke up with stella, things would have been different (there’s actually a scene where there were alternative kids in which stella was their mother, and only ted hook up with stella, so there u have it). so robin cant be the kids’s mother nor ted’s wife. btw that would be a crappy ending. it has to be someone that we have already seen in one of those parties in which both ted and his future wife have been, like saint patrick’s day party, and others that i dont remember now, and at the same time goes to the school where ted teaches. someone that has appeared and we never gave much importance. that would be a good ending, in my opinion. or, maybe we never saw her and then this super beautiful and hot, girl appears who we can say for sure that is gonna be ted’s wife.
    different topic now: i agree with what someone said about having 50 stories in one episode. i love the entire show, but that 5th season was kinda not as good as the others. the things that happen have nothing to do with the storyline. if carter and thomas r gonna keep doing that, they can make 30 seasons, but then the show would start to lose its magic and interest. they should keep up with the storyline and eventually in this sixth season, ted will finally meet the mother of his kids, which would mean the end of the show, but at least we wont think of the show as something that was great and got ruined because the writers didnt want to end it. we will always think of it as the perfect show. they might stretch it up to 2 seasons, but no more than that, is my guess.
    and to the guy who said marshall is fat: it’s not just marshall. marshall, lily and robin got a lot fatter in the last season. lily’s breasts were almost non-existant, and then in the 5th season she got enormous boobs. the only one who got skinnier,, from the first season to the 5th, as ted, and that is clear. barney is always the same. that guy’s awesome.

    Everyone is saying that this show should continue long and will not finish soon. But keeping intrigue requires new ideas and always changes in sequence of events. Season 6 finale episode may reveal who is real mother of children, then in the season 7, Ted and mother should track long way; meeting each other, loving, getting married etc.

    Howerever, I think Ted and Robin will end up together. Because why older Ted decided to tell his children that story and there is no mother ? why mother will not add something to stories ?

    I really think that mother died when children were baby and at the same time Robin as it said she travelled through the world and this made Tedd to tell stories. Also in 2030 Ted and Robin are married. If you watched 3 season Robin finds new boyfriend with son drawing his and mother, Then Ted says that Robin never loved children, but only loved you (children) and paintings of children “Aunt Robin and Us in zoo” shown (But in fact, the general meaning of this episode is children when they are very young will draw only their mother or who takes care of )

    There might be other ideas that Carter Bays and Craig Thomas can prolong and keep interesting, however I bet Ted and Robin will be together.

    (By the way, when I saw Robin’s childhood, I found great similarity to Tedd’s daughter. You can check 3 season 4 episode)

    Let me clear up a few things. 1. Robin is not going to be the mother, although the kids do look a lot like her. Ted, in 2030 always refers to her as “Aunt Robin” and Ted dated the mothers roomate in season 5. The mother is cleary NOT Robin and you all need to get it through your thick heads. 2. Barney is obviously still in love with Robin and they will probably get back together by the end of the series. Atleast thats what im hoping. Ted is also in love, but will not make the mistake of getting back together with Robin. 3. Lilly and Marshall do end up having kids. Atleast one. In season 5 Ted says that Marshall quits smoking with the birth of his son. 4. The series will go until atleast the end of season 7, but probably not any further than season 8 or 9. Im loving this show and I don’t want it to end any time soon. People who say that season 5 was bad were cleary looking at the bad episodes. I’d have to admit that there were a few but on the whole it was legen wait for it……. dary.
