Season 5, Episode 13: Jenkins Preview

This is a placeholder until I get my review posted. My internet is wonky lately so I’ll do my best to post tonight but I promise nothing.

What’s this episode all about anyway? I didn’t even remember the name until I just double checked (good thing, I thought it was “Merkin”).

Peace out hombres!

It seemed to me that the writers/producers were trying to stay away from Barney tonight, which was a nice change. I like “LAME” episodes, and I am sure many people have been in a similar situation that Marshall found himself in.

Loved the Robin drinking game. Coincidentally my buddies and I play a drinking game while watch Pierre McGuire (any hockey fans???)

Overall a pretty standard filler episode, but I don’t have any complaints

    Agreed with that.

I love when HIMYM combines the A/B plot style and finds a way to link Plot A to Plot B (i.e. Jenkins’ reason she was drunk the day she tongued Marshall).

Also, Robin has been saying “But, um” for quite a while now, good example: “The Fight” where Robin tries (but can’t) come up with an excuse of how to not go to the Hockey game with Sir Barnacles. She had to say “But, um” at least several times.

Wasn’t this the NPH directed episode? If it was, great job NPH.

Loved, LOVED the episode! I have to agree with some people retroactively that the season has been way too barney heavy, and even though we saw an episode that wasn’t focused on Ted, the Mother, or the “chase”, everyone was perfect tonight! Just the right amount of barney jokes (when did he stop being a wingman and start flying solo so much?), just the right amount of Ted and his own wicked brand of humor, “oh yeah, well if you don’t say ‘But Um’ so often, I guess Barney and I didn’t get drunk and I didn’t throw up all over myself. Oh wait, FACE!” and the perfect amount of Marshall being awesome rather than a pushover – skeeball.

I think that this ranks up there with the playbook and duel citizenship this season. Well done everyone involved!

Oh, and BGeo, let me know what the Pierre Maguire drinking game is, I am a huge Canucks fan, and my pals follow the leafs and Sens, so a TSN drinking game sounds awesome!!

Well. I’m not awake because of the episode. I was studying for my exams , and decided to watch it to relax a little bit.

This is gonna be awkward, because, after last time I wrote here, I promised myself to stop writing for an undetermined period of time, but I cannot leave commenting this episode.

You know first I thought Burger episode was the worst of all series. Then Slapgiving2 was the worst for me.

Guess what? We have a wineer. Jenkins is possibly the worst episode of himym. And if they continue this way, I prefer not to imagine what we’ll have for season finale.

I really think about quitting the show for a time, cos IMHO it’s getting one of the dumbest and lamest series to watch.

Come on. Ted is not like that. Everyone knows it.
The episode? A complete filler, nothing to remember from it.
I did not laugh a single time. And it gets worse:
And it’s truly hard for the writers to make a non-barney episode… Really. Although Barney is not the main character, they changed the show so much that they don’t know what to do without getting Barney a major role.

Yes, I know what you are gonna say: “Stop watching and bla bla bla…”. I think I will. I don’t want to create a bad mood here. But I kinda feel himym has jumped the shark. Maybe I’ll tune for season finale. Although I maybe will continue watching without commenting, I think that, if I continue watching, is for not having 5 years of my life wasted on nothing. I really think they have buried 90% of what made Himym the best tv series for me in the past.

And the usual… Robin’s but um was a little funny at first, but it got boring towards the end. Amanda peet role? lame for me. Ted, as I said, was not and is not like he was today.

I’m gonna continue studying. I would say this episode was a total deception… But whole season 5 is being itself a deception, so never mind.

I meant winner, of course, not wineer.

i believe somebody previously posted saying that barney was directing this episode and would probably not be featured as much..if i remember correctly.

I’M FROM PELICAN RAPIDS!!!!!!!!!!!! That being said, does anybody know why they chose Pelican Rapids to be the city Jenkins is from? I’m just curious if there is a connection there somewhere…

I loved this episode. But ummm. Classic.

NPH did direct it but it was still good despite the lack of barnyisms.

high hoper- i know you’re expecting this, but seriously, don’t watch. or at least don’t comment. himym isn’t a soap opera. it’s a sitcom. i felt great about the episode until i came over here to share and read your downer of a comment. the show can’t be nonstop development of the mother storyline; that would make it cease to be a comedy. just sayin’, i could definitely do without you trashing the show every week.

Because NPH directed it I think he probably chose to be focused less in this episode… I mean, if he’s IN the scene, it’s harder to view the scene from all angles right? Only makes sense. I thought he did a FANTASTIC job, the guy is so damn talented!!

I really enjoyed this episode, I even loved Ted so desperately wanting to be “cool” with his students that he offered to pay for the booze.

I often get stuck watching “Accidentally on Purpose” after this show. And I HATE it! Like it’s AWFUL! The jokes are stupid and predictable, the premise is lame and it has nothing interesting. If you think you didn’t like HIMYM, watch this garbage and you will be glad Carter and Craig have created such an awesome show that’s funny on multiple levels and closely mirrors many peoples lives. There’s NOTHING better than HIMYM at it’s best, and tonight was very good. Also, Amanda Peete is hot.

I love Marshall because I don’t think he owns a comb. You see his hair this entire episode, just a freaking mess, I don’t know how he walks around like that. I thought Robin had probably her best episode of the season, and she’s back a little bit to classic Robin. Lily punching out Jenkins at the end of the show was great too.

PS. I am also interested in Pierre McGuire’s drinking game. Does it revolve around the word “Monster” perhaps?

Edit: Why the hell does this comment format destroy my good grammar by erasing capitals? It takes my credibility away from being in front of my students!

ok..so i actually haven’t watched this episode (and won’t) and i have to say i feel a lot better than i did the last couple of weeks after a sucky episode.
so, high hoper, i recommend you stop watching new episodes not for some you-bring-me-down-reason but ’cause i think it’s going to work really well for me, too.
also, i started rewatching the old one and, man, it feels good to have the great versions of these characters back!
