I LOVED this episode. The dialogue was snappy, the characters interacted so well (although Barney didn’t have much to do) and it just sizzled. This was some of HIMYM’s best! The flashbacks we all love, even a few throwbacks to previous episodes (Hello Ted’s ex-gf Natalie). This season has been hit or miss, but when they hit, they knock it out of the park.
SundaeQueen | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 12:30 am GMT -4
This episode was really awesome! Barney’s perfect photos were hilarious, and the flashback to Ted, Marshall, and Lily’s first photo ever was a really heartwarming moment.
But next year at this time Ted still hasn’t met the mother?!
Andy | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 12:40 am GMT -4
The ep was fine, but I have to say…HUGE time-jump complaint. Ted re-dated Natalie in the fall of 2005, three years after dumping her (fall of 2002, then)…why was she around in February 2005? For a show that ALWAYS manages to sneak in references that do make sense, that one, which didn’t make any sense at all in the timeline, kinda stung.
Bgeo | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 01:02 am GMT -4
I will post again after jd, but I liked this episode. It reminded me a little of “the front porch” but maybe it was because of Karen
Tim | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 01:20 am GMT -4
In the future, is Lily pregnant? Look at again at her dress. Kinda big and a little puffy. Trying to hid something? Evidence: There are three wine glasses on the table and four people sitting.
JT | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 01:46 am GMT -4
Not the funniest episode, but very good flashbacks and writing made me enjoy this episode. Loved it when I thought Lily was about to blow Ted’s date’s head off.
By the way, remember how close to the end of the episode Lily comes to reconciliation with letting someone in the group (in this episode, Ted) bring someone who they “thought they were the one” into the photo? Well, how come Don isn’t with Robin at Lily’s birthday a year later? Could it just be Robin’s personality not bringing dates to intimate events? Is Don on “assignment” that day? Or is this a hint that he’s just “not the one” for Robin, and perhaps they’re not together then? I love when they have us thinking with their “flash forwards.”
Colin | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 03:34 am GMT -4
Great episode, and I was kind of glad to see it not revolve around Barney and Robin, although they were involved in a fun B-plot. And at least they took a second to acknowledge Don’s absence.
I’ve always loved Marshall, but this episode made me love him more. And it was actually nice to see him go off on Ted. Marshall really needs to stick up for himself sometimes.
And I agree that Lily looked pregnant in the flash forward. Let’s hope that finally happens and Marshall becomes a dad.
katie90 | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 04:45 am GMT -4
watched 3 minutes so far. if lily says one more “yay”, i’ll have to mute that chick. i hate hate hate her and marshall in the crazy birthday beginning. hope this gets better. see you guys in, like, 18 minutes
katie90 | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 05:06 am GMT -4
hm. just a regular bad episode. only thing i liked was marshalls penguin line.
(not that i want them to, i’, just saying, they have to at some point)
btw we saw the future a year ahead and lily still isn’t (visibly) pregnant? how long are they hoping to drag this out for? i mean, it’s inevitable and would be the next logical storyline for lily and marshall. plus, it’d be the ONLY storyline that lasts longer than one episode that they can give them, except for them breaking up again. i mean, they got married, they bought the apartment, they fixed the aprtment.. make some babies, people
katie90 | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 05:08 am GMT -4
sundaequeen: i didn’t even think of that.. the mom’s not around one year from now?! my god, i don’t want to see this show dragged to a seventh or eight season, it just won’t work
katie90 | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 05:18 am GMT -4
sorry for .. quatruple posting
but i wouldn’t put too much thought in the wine glasses regarding a possible pregnancy. remember the scotch flash-forward when lily just sniffed hers instead of drinking it and every online and vocal himym fan thought she was pregnant by then? their either putting slight clues in so can go either way and decide later on if they want a pregnancy at that point or they’re just messing with us
SophiaVonMatterhorn | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 05:40 am GMT -4
i heard rumors there would be 8 seasons
i wouldnt mind
maybe she is already or soon to be pregnant and in one year a little newborn baby is sleeping in another room
Fon | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 07:16 am GMT -4
This episode reminds me of why I love HIMYM! It’s hilarious & heart-warming, & everybody has a part on it! I really love the first group photo flashback and the Robin & Barney’s part is just so AWESOME! I really love when Robin tries to win a fight with Barney, it really shows that they can remain as good friends.
Mrs. Stinsfire | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 08:51 am GMT -4
I love the part where Barney goes “Happy happy Lilyday, happe happy Lilyday” on the guitar
Hilarious!
The picture in the ending is also pretty good!
Poppy Fields | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 08:51 am GMT -4
I thought Barney was not awesome until he got dumped (in exchange for a guy wearing suit)?
High Hoper | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 09:47 am GMT -4
mmm… Good episode, but not as good as the last 3. Although there were so many hilarious moments!
SundaeQueen | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 11:23 am GMT -4
Oh and also, the window thing Marshall for Lily did was way sweet.
Ari | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 11:49 am GMT -4
I liked it, totally made me laugh.. I’m just like Lily with the birthday thing, and the pictures cracked me up.
Meanwhile, there’s an article on ew.com complaining that Ted is a jerk: http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/03/23/how-i-met-your-mother-ted-mosby/ , I have to say I completely disagree… I don’t find him a jerk at all. A bit self-involved at times, but who isn’t?
lori68 | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 12:04 pm GMT -4
Lol.. this was funny to me because..
1. I do have friends who have the same pose for every picture. Right down to the angle and the smile. They actually practice it.
2. I do have friends who bring whoever they are dating to special group occasions.
I love this show!!
Spencer | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 12:48 pm GMT -4
the headline spells “cheese” wrong.
Sorry, had to voice it.
osumarko | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 01:50 pm GMT -4
Spencer, nobody likes a Ted.
Starney Binson | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 01:58 pm GMT -4
Yes, but no one likes a Robin either.
Toby | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 03:10 pm GMT -4
I thought it was ok. I liked the Name that Bitch trivia game, and I liked how Ted called Lily a Birthday Bitch.
I was also wondering why Don wasn’t in the Flashforward, but the truth is they probably didn’t put him in because they don’t know where that is going yet. Although, I am sure he won’t last too long.
kay vee | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 03:24 pm GMT -4
Ari, I read that article and also disagreed … Calling Ted the biggest douche on TV is really stretching it. I was kind of pissed at his actions last night, but I think having Marshall blow up at Ted kind of made up for it. Angry Marshall is awesome!
jons | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 04:50 pm GMT -4
just one thing dad…can we skip to the part when you meet mom?
Tove | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 04:52 pm GMT -4
Hmm, not too impressed. I think the theme is kind of funny because people are so intense about pictures, with posing the same pose as Barney or faking a scene as Lily. But I just think Ted was a bit out of character, or one part of his character (believing that almost every girl is The Girl) was stretched out. Some writers just makes Ted so douchey, to the point where it’s not really believable. I loved to see a bit more of college Ted and Karen though! And now I feel like eating cake.
And Katie90, I totally agree on the babything. Just get to it, they need more stories.
Thomas | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 05:06 pm GMT -4
Really enjoyed this episode, another one in a great second half of the season. I was in agreement with Lily and Marshall about Ted bringing girls to the group occasions. But I liked how they took it back to the college photo, not just a silly explanation, but a real example of why Ted is a guy who generally means well with these things.
Some great lines and moments too. I loved Robin’s “fun fact, each year my Mother has Easter tea with her friend Bunny,” joke plus the lukewarm response. Its been mentioned on this blog before but they do those moments very well. Lily and Marshall’s general excitement (intentional pun *salutes*) over celebrating the latter’s birthday was also a lot of fun too and suited those guys perfectly.
Not too long left of this season now, feels like its gone by pretty darn quickly!
Jenn- GCWOK Approved | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 06:21 pm GMT -4
This episode was just ok again. Bummer. But I think they left it wide open plot-wise for next year. Maybe Ted learned his lesson and didn’t bring someone, or she was out of town. Lily could totally be pregnant, or maybe not. I don’t think it really indicated anything one way or another.
That made me happy.
In those flashbacks, do they redress the whole set to when Marshall lived in the apartment? I’ve never really noticed before but I bet those flashbacks are super annoying for the set dressers! I love them, though.
Katie, I loved your comment about the coat!
Colin | Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 05:30 am GMT -4
And what do you know? Today is Alyson Hannigan’s birthday. And just two days after the episode on Lily’s birthday.
Fabio | Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 08:07 am GMT -4
@poppy fields
hahahahaha ur right… barney was lame before that guy in a suit!
i really loved this episode…. especially because it is true! there’s always someone who brings a date to special dates with friends…
and uh….
-ted, what if i break up with her?
-what if you don’t?
Corey | Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 05:45 pm GMT -4
True, Barney is a hippie before becoming his present Awesome self, but that could have just been college Barney. I know someone that’s kind of turned into a hippie since going to college. Barney in elementary school could have had flashes of awesome like that.
I wish they would find some footage of the kids in the vault to use that has them actually say something rather than just sit quietly on the couch.
BGeo | Thursday, March 25th, 2010 12:25 am GMT -4
I really did like this episode. As I mentioned before, I found this episode reminded me of the episode “The Front Porch”. There were a lot of flash backs in both, as well as a few flash forwards.
I am getting anxious for the final 6 episodes, and to be honest, I feel it’s about time for the group to move into the next phase of their lives. I thought Lily looked pregnant a year from now, however i didn’t analyze the table for alcoholic drinks or anything.
It’s time for Marshall and Lily to start their family, and its time for ted to find his wife
Buxton | Thursday, March 25th, 2010 05:37 am GMT -4
Barney wearing a suit at a funeral?
I thought suits for meant for a time of awesomeness.

But Barney is always in a time of awesomeness
Bunny | Thursday, March 25th, 2010 03:34 pm GMT -4
Why do all of you ppl want Ted to finally meet the mother of his children so soon? I know its the name of the show, but what happens next them? I dont want Himym to be finished already. I love how he is just slowly getting clother to the point of his story.
ps: i am from Germany and i hate bbeing like the last one beeing able to watch every new episode. Anyone knows a good place to watch himym right after they were aired in the USA? It takes too much time to wait for the new episodes to be uploaded here. And i dont want to wait for the german translation either, because they really suck

bunny, you don’t need to…i am from croatia, so we are in the same time zone, the show gets out on monday at 8 p.m….am i right? When in the usa is 8 p.m. in Europe, at least in our time zone is 3 in the morning…so right after you wake up, on tuesday you can get the epizode from torrentz ‘s any source..faster than that, i wouldn’t know how…
jons | Thursday, March 25th, 2010 05:17 pm GMT -4
of course if you want to collect the episodes…
Jazzer | Thursday, March 25th, 2010 06:27 pm GMT -4
To think I completely forgot about the episode even airing. Watched it. It was… Well, can’t say it’s bad, at least not how katie90 did.
The episode is not as bad as some other can be, since it does have a wee bit storyline in it. Just, a really small bit that contributes to the show.
Didn’t really enjoy it that much. At least not as much as I did enjoy Of Course two weeks ago, that left me amazed on how good it was. The story on this one, it’s just boring. The only good bit on it – Barney’s poses. I never really thought about it, but I too have the exact same pose on every picture. Kinda epic.
I think the show is going slow, because the producers didn’t think it will get a sixth season, so it’s probably going to be slow until the end.
And what the hell is with the schedules? It takes over 2 weeks for an episode to be aired! It’s freakin’ annoying. The next episode will be April 12th. That is three weeks away from today. Three weeks…
Going to watch The Window now…
Digz | Thursday, March 25th, 2010 07:38 pm GMT -4
Hilarious episode. One of my favorites. So hey is anyone else sick of the producers sneaking Laura Prepon into as many episodes as they can? Loved her on That 70′s, cant stand her on HIMYM.
Great catch on that suit at a funeral thing Buxton. Rare production slip.
Really? No one else found Marshall’s “my balls were “bleu!” line hilarious???
katie90 | Friday, March 26th, 2010 06:19 am GMT -4
Jazzer: “Well, can’t say it’s bad, at least not how katie90 did.”
i love how i’m the go-to person for bad critiques
i’m sorry to disagree with so many of you guys, but i really enjoy commenting on here (which even puts the fun back in some of the lamer episodes) and you people (especially the differing opinions) make it so much fun!
katie90 | Friday, March 26th, 2010 06:20 am GMT -4
and, oh yeah, prepon needs to be GONE, like, now. i know, we’re supposed to hate her, but i kind of hate her so much i don’t even find her scenes funny
Jazzer | Friday, March 26th, 2010 11:24 am GMT -4
Oh yeah, I sprung into laughter today at school due to the Slash joke. xD
BGeo | Saturday, March 27th, 2010 04:00 pm GMT -4
how funny was marshall’s “my balls were bleu, bleu!!!” joke. One of the best jokes this season imo

Hi everybody!
This episode is really awesome!
I loved the music playing on thebackground, during flashback in France.
Please, please, somebody tell me who is the singer? Or group?
It does sound like French hip-hop, but there tonns of music there. Would be really difficult to search it all…
Lance Hardwood | Saturday, March 27th, 2010 06:19 pm GMT -4
I liked the French hip hop a lot, I liked Robin’s bunny story a lot, I liked Marshall’s face when he read ‘you seem really nice’. I liked ‘HER NAME WAS STRAWBERRY’ a lot.
I LOVED ROBIN IN THAT PINK DRESS, OH MY GOD, STUNNING.
http://thankedgnat.wordpress.com
^ Planning a legen…wait for it…dary blog post on HIMYM.
I’m gonna try searching for the French hip hop song after I finish watching and I’ll report back if I have any luck

Hi everybody!
First, thanks for this blog, a perfect complement to the show!
I enjoyed this episode, but didn’t find it as good as the three or four last ones. I was worried about the show after the last episodes of the fourth season, but this one is completely doing it for me!
Something bothers me though: doesn’t the guitar player we can see during the “spanish interlude” really look like Rufus Wainwright? I can’t make my mind. Does anybody know if it’s him?

Yeah, he said something before about real life being more important than TV sometimes. He’s obviously very confused.
