Rebound Bro Airs Tonight

First, thank you to all the people who said such lovely things about the site in the comments last week, I appreciate all of it. You guys are the best readers.

Now, onto business. Tonight’s episode is “Rebound Bro” and it looks like a good one:

  • When Ted tells the gang Stella’s intimate secret, he must face the consequences of breaking her trust.
  • Guest Cast:
    Stella: Sarah Chalke
Randy: Will Forte (Barney’s new wingman)
    Pete: Blair Hickey
    Stapleton: Dean West
    Crazy Willie: Bill Parks
    Haley: Floriana Lima
    Kate: Rome Shadanloo
    Sadie: Sonia Rockwell
Lucy: Darcy Rose Byrnes (that’d be this young lady not this super-hot woman. I was disappointed although I bet Darcy makes a better eight-year-old daughter.)
  • Barney goes on a quest to find his next bro. It will be a challenging task as most of Barney’s old friends are now married and have children or already have a bro. He eventually teams up with nerdy Randy who delivers the mail in Barney’s office and actually offered to be Barney’s new wingman. Barney has a lot of work to do to make Randy bro material.

On April 21 How I Met Your Mother becomes I Love the 80s

vanderbeek-sparkles.jpg

I really hate copying directly from the source but I don’t have a ton of time so here we go:

The April 21 episode of How I Met Your Mother is turning into a wonderful ’80s flashback. Already marking the return of Robin Sparkles, the outing will feature visits from former teen popstress Tiffany and Growing Pains‘ Alan Thicke, playing Ms. Sparkles’ gal pal and father, respectively, in a newly unearthed video for “Sandcastles in the Sand,” a ballad Robin wrote upon being dumped by her backup-dancer beau (Dawson’s Creek’s James Van Der Beek).

HIMYM co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas wrote and composed “Sandcastles in the Sand” as the B-side of “Let’s Go to the Mall,” using iconic ’80s breakup ballads such as “Foolish Beat” and “Toy Soldiers” as inspiration.

With Michael Gross (Family Ties) having guested as Ted’s pop and Bob Saget (Full House) playing narrator, Thicke represents the third classic ’80s dad to get involved with the CBS sitcom.

I think this episode is shaping up to be truly legendary. What do we think?

I leave you with this, which is quite possibly the most insane commercial I’ve seen lately. It’s got Meatloaf and Tiffany selling Go Phones. I love it.

Is Victoria Coming Back? Update #2

victoria-first-view.jpg

So I’m back and have had a little more time. Here are the facts:

A reader pointed out tedmosbyisnotajerk.com which appears to be written by Victoria as a response to tedmosbyisajerk.com which popped up after Monday’s episode.

As reader Jack pointed out, the new site is registered to Timothy Kirschenheiter while the original is registered to Marc Geller. They were both registered through GoDaddy. The original was registered on March 3rd, the new one on April 4th. Neither of these people are the registrar for slapbetcountdown.com, an old web site associated with the show.

The new site is very detailed. If it’s written by a fan, it’s written by a devoted one. There are testimonials from all of the women in Ted’s life, replete with references to each one’s time spent with Ted. Color me impressed.

There’s an email associated with the the new site—tedmosbyisnotajerk@yahoo.com—that would seem to go to “Victoria”. Last night I emailed “her” this:

I agree. Ted is great. Do you think you’ll try to be with him when you get back from Germany? I would.

Then today I got this response:

Hey Justin,

Well, my internship only lasted two years. And those two years ended this past January. But I took a position with a prestigious French-inspired cafe in the heart of Berlin, so I am still in Germany.

But, I have thought about returning to NYC. If I do, I hope I bump into Ted. I really just want to see how he is doing. And maybe, just maybe, there is still something there.

I’m not sure, though. It is all bery confusing.

-Victoria

p.s. thanks for checking out my site! tell all your friends about it!

Interesting. I’m going to email again from a different address and see if I get a similar response.

Real or not, the site is hilarious. Check out the testimonials, they’re legendary.

What do we think? Is this canon? Made by a fan? Is Victoria coming back? Do we want her to? Her IMDB is pretty empty lately but she is currently filming a pilot for a television series called “Night Life” that Zach Braff is associated with.

Update: This site is fan made. The writers had nothing to do with it. That’s damn impressive though, and I tip my hat to whomever is responsible for it. That means that we probably won’t see Victoria again though. I just think it’s great that How I Met Your Mother fans are starting to make some noise!

What ever happened to Joe Nieves?

joe-nieves.jpg

Known to us as Carl the Bartender at MacLarens, we haven’t seen Joe Nieves in awhile. Not since Monday Night Football last season where he had much more of a speaking role and I thought he might be featured a little more prominently. Then he’s gone, just like that.

From the DVDs I know that Joe Nieves was originally supposed to play a cop in the pilot, but the role was cut. He showed up to work in his own cop outfit and made such an impression on Bays and Thomas that they gave him the part of Carl the Bartender (aspiring actor’s note: show up in outfit.)

More trivia: both the character Carl and the bar—MacLaren’s—is named after production assistant Carl Maclaren who, I believe, is the assistant to Bays and Thomas and has come up with a couple Barneyisms over the years.

But where’d Joe Nieves go? I always liked his appearances. Wendy the Waitress is still around, so why can’t Carl come back?

Consider this post a petition. Bring back Joe Nieves! Who’s going to write their number on Drunk Ted’s arm? He’ll wake up with the penguins at the zoo! Leave your support in the comments. Or maybe you hate Nieves. You’d be wrong, but you can still comment.

Carl the Bartender appeared in:

Pilot
The Sweet Taste of Liberty
The Slutty Pumpkin
Matchmaker
The Pineapple Incident
Ted Mosby, Architect
Swarley
Columns
Monday Night Football

Barney’s Mystery Woman Revealed: Tess Alexandra Parker

tess-alexandra-parker2.jpgtess-alexandra-parker1.jpg

I was rewatching The Bracket on the train home last night (as I’m wont to do) and noticed something in the credits. I Googled it a bit and beyond a post on tv.com forums no one else has wrote about this.

The girl stalking Barney last night was listed in the credits as “mystery woman”. Her name is Tess Alexandra Parker and, like Ted’s mystery woman, is a relative unknown.

I think it’s interesting that they listed her in the credits. Maybe my Lost fan paranoia is kicking in but this seems like a clue we might see her again in the future. Could she come back? To what extent? What does it all mean? Who’s pants are these?

What do you guys think of all this?

PS. Sorry for the small pictures. Don’t blame me, blame IMDB.

Dawson and Robin Sitting in a Tree…

vanderbeek-sparkles.jpg

The Internet is all a twitter with the latest How I Met Your Mother casting news:

I must break in with the fabulous news that our old friend Dawson Leery, aka James Van Der Beek, has officially agreed to guest star on How I Met Your Mother’s upcoming “Robin Sparkles” episode. I’m hearing he plays the Canadian pop star’s crush, but I have yet to get confirmation on that little detail. Sounds about right though, no?!
source

Thanks to Ranier and Kathryn for pointing this news out to me.

I always liked Dawson. He was good in the (underrated in my opinion) Rules of Attraction (great book, btw) and really, who didn’t like Dawson’s Creek? It had Katie Holmes (even though she butchered On My Own, I think Jason Segel would agree with me there) and Joshua Jackson. According to several girls in my high school I reminded them of Jackson, which led to less of a Barney-esque windfall then you’d expect. But I digress.

What do you think of this news? I’m just so excited to have another Robin Sparkles episode I’ll take what I can get.

Upcoming: The Final Four

dawn-olivieri.jpg

This Moday’s episode is titled “The Final Four” (or maybe “The Bracket”, depending on where you look) and, much like the super bowl episode last year, uses a current sporting event as its focus. But in classic How I Met Your Mother fashion, basketball teams won’t be the only competitors.

Reader Courtney had this tidbit:

Barney tries to find the mystery woman who’s out to ruin his reputation, by using the NCAA 64 person bracket. An interesting name comes up in the casting info for the episode:

“Anna” Dawn Olivieri.

tedmosby-arch-barney.jpg

Thanks to Courtney’s research we know that Dawn first appeared on the show in last season’s episode Ted Mosby, Architect as the girl “Ted” picked up by bragging about “his” job. At the end of the episode Robin and Lily, who think it is a cheating Ted in the apartment with this girl, bust in with the intent to kick her ass. Instead they find Barney tied up in bed and learn he’s used Ted’s name since he’s recently had some bad press on the Internet. In a rush to leave before the girl finishes her shower, Barney leaves a form letter he keeps with him for one night stands. Forgetting Anna’s name he addresses the letter to “resident”. The tag at the end of the episode shows Anna fresh out of the shower reading the letter—in which Barney proclaims to be a ghost who only appears once a year on the date of his death, and that he might one day return provided she keeps her figure—and asking aloud “who’s Barney?”.

The fact that they’ve brought Dawn back is wonderful news. I love how the show makes call backs to not only previous episodes but previous seasons. It’s a real reward for the fans. Who else might we see return from Barney’s past? Are there any other girls we know he’s scorned? Any victims of the lemon law? Could Wendy the Waitress be in the bracket? Tune in Monday to find out.

PS. If Dawn looks familiar to any of you it’s probably because she’s been a model on Deal or No Deal several times.

“The Final Four” (or, “The Bracket”) airs Monday March 3/31 at 8:30 EST on CBS.

Did We Meet the Mother?

umbrella-in-line.jpg

So there’s been a lot of chatter online about whether or not we may have met the mother this week. As reader Jez pointed out to me in an email, it seemed strange for the episode to include Ted bumping into a girl, seemingly at random, while at the club (for those of you who have the episode, say from iTunes like I do, it’s around the 13:30 mark). We know that the mother was at the party, yet Future Ted says at the end that he didn’t meet the mother there. Could the girl he bumped into turn out to be the mom? Let’s examine the possibilities.

  1. In the picture above, all we can see the woman with the yellow umbrella wearing is a leather jacket and jeans. We can tell she’s caucasian, petite, and has a bit of an olive complextion.
  2. Check out the images below, screen captures from the moment Ted bumps into the woman at the bar.

bump-into-her2.jpg
bump-into-her1.jpg

This woman is also wearing jeans, but so are 99% of the other women in the bar (and, in fact, the world.) I say this evidence isn’t conclusive enough. With all the talk about potential mother casting and then subsequent changes in game plan, it could be that, in lieu of Dermatologist Stella turning out to be the mom, the writers have thrown in a curve ball hinting at something else for the future. Or it could be a red herring.

I decided to track down the actress who played the girl Ted bumped into to try and determine how likely she would be to, at some point, become a series regular. Based on the press release I tracked her down:

Nicole Muirbrook WagnerHer name is Nicole Muirbrook Wagner and she has not appeared in anything notable. That’s a good sign, if she isn’t a hugely popular, in demand character actor there’s a good chance she’d be both available and amiable to come back on the show in a larger capacity.

Also, she fits the profile of the mother that was established in season one’s episode “Milk” when they showed shots of the mom with her face covered. What we could tell about the mother in those pictures was that she a) was brunette b) was petite c) had a mild olive complextion. Again, Wagner fits the bill. Additionally, if you look at Future Ted’s kids, they too are petite brunettes with vaguely olive complextions.

Now we have to ask if the creators of the show would do this to us? Maybe I watch too much Lost but yes, I think they would. That’s not to say that I’m convinced this is the mother, but it’s a definite possibility.

What do you think?

Will the woman Ted bumped into turn out to be the mother?

Pictures of Britney on the set.

126.jpgPersonally, I’m getting tired of covering this type of thing. I prefer analysis of the show on the blog, rather than the brainless reporting of information. I’m happy to share these photos though as anything concerning new episodes of the show are exciting at this point. Come back tomorrow for more of the episode discussion that made the pre-strike weeks so awesome around the halls here at Have You Met Ted. In the meantime, what do we think of these pictures?
