Guest Post: Examining the Act Break

Hey guys, Steve had a comment that intrigued me greatly. He talked about this week’s episode, Natural History, being an “act break” for the show. It was one of those forehead-slapping moments and I knew Steve was onto something. I asked him to elaborate thinking he could help me organize my thoughts around it but he was nice enough to do a write up himself. And a damn good one if I do say so, I might be out of a job if Steve decides to take it full time. I was smiling more than when Ted said “Hersey Squirts” by the end of this.

PS. I just posted a piece on AMLAW that I think you guys will like. I’m not being over-promotional, this isn’t some recap of a TV show. It’s a pretty personal story from my life that centers around a certain song. If you like the sentimental stuff or identify with SOT, check it out and tell me what you think.

Now, onto Steve’s genius!

JD asked me to elaborate on the post I made in response to How I Met Your Mother’s “Natural History” episode (season 6, episode 8), specifically on my comments regarding the episode as an “act break” in the overall arc of the show.

Season 6: Almost Here

Hey guys, so it’s the eve of Season 6 and I’m getting excited. A lot of great shows are coming back tomorrow, will HIMYM stand out from the bunch? I’ll be back with my recap as soon as I can, hopefully Monday night but Tuesday otherwise.

I know literally nothing about what to expect this season. I’ve heard some guest star rumors and some vague ideas of plot but I’m a clean slate. I haven’t (and won’t) return to last season before going into this new one, I’m ready to be wowed.

What are your thoughts on this season? What do you want to see?

Some housekeeping, I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile but I finally updated the music section. Not with content, that’s coming soon, but with structure. With six seasons one page was getting a little long. The music section is now broken out by season, and episode, so you can easily find the songs you love and share them with your friends.

Happy season 6, I’m glad to be sharing it with you!

How I Met Your Mother Season 5 – Photos

These are some crazy-ass photos. Now of course I want to hear under what circumstances you guys think these photos will appear. What will the plotlines be that lead us here? I’ve supplied my theories along side the images below.

How I Met Your Mother is the Best Comedy on Television (Maybe)

Where’s the new post button? What’s my admin password? What’s the website again? Oh yeah, I remember how to do this now…

Hey guys and gals, how’s your summer vacation so far? Having fun? How much fun? As much fun as it must be for Bays, Thomas, and the cast to be nominated for BEST EFFING COMEDY SERIES? (That’s the oft-forgotten full title of the award. True Story.)

It’s true, after years of shunning, HIMYM finally gets the nomination it deserves. I’m not going to lie, it’s up against some stiff competition. Nominees:

  • How I Met Your Mother – Woot!
  • Entourage – I’m a big fan, though I’m still pulling for HIMYM
  • The Office – Past it’s peak, IMO, still good but not as good as it used to be.
  • 30 Rock - Eh, it’s good, and it’s cool to love it, but I prefer HIMYM because it’s story AND funny.
  • Weeds – Who cares. OK, a lot of people, just not me.
  • Flight of the Conchords – Couldn’t get through this season. Too weird for its own good.
  • Family Guy – Would be historic, which is cool, but still not as good as HIMYM

What do you guys think? Does it have a chance? I think so. What do you think? Oh yeah, NPH is hosting and it airs September 20 on CBS. Tune in! Or don’t, that shit is long and you can just read the winners on twitter (where you can follow me here.)

How I Met Your Mother Theories – Tracey, Yellow Umbrella, and more

rightplacerighttime-hero

In honor of the upcoming finale and the promise that the show’s title will be addressed I think it’s worth rehashing some of the popular theories to see which are viable, which are debunked, and what we actually think is going to happen.
