Announcing the How I Met Your Mother Forum
The season is over, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have anything to talk about. While the show is airing, it makes sense for me to create posts and have you comment. But now that we’re on summer vacation, it’s time to change things up a bit.
Have You Met Ted now has a forum to discuss How I Met Your Mother. Why should I decide what we talk about? With your intelligent, well thought-out, articulate commentary you guys are the real reason the site is a success. That’s why I want to give you all the opportunity to start discussions as well as participate in them.
If you visit the forum you’ll see that there is already some activity. A few days ago I sent out an email to some of the site’s top contributors and asked them to check out the forum and tell me what they thought. Imagine my surprise when I checked back and everyone had not only started topics but started topics that were all blog posts I’ve been meaning to write.
So check out the forum, sign up for an account, tell your friends, and let’s keep the discussion going. Anything goes, there are no rules. A few things to consider when making an account:
- A valid email address is required. Some of you like to use cute fake addresses when leaving comments. Make sure you use a real one here since activation is required. I promise I won’t spam you.
- If you’d like a better title than “member” send me a message or an email and I can change it to whatever you like. Some people are doing this already and I love the creativity. Who can come up with the best name?

Happy Birthday Have You Met Ted
Have-You-Met-Ted.com turns eight months old today. I posted Barney and Marshall have a Confrontation on September 1st last year. I didn’t know what the site would become, if anyone would read it, or if there were even that many other fans of the show out there. I just wanted to have some intelligent discussion about the show and couldn’t find a good place for it.Since then I’ve had 130,000 page views, 965 comments, 332 subscribers, and 162 posts (it feels like I’ve written 10x that). I’ve gotten a chance to get to know a number of intelligent, hilarious, and all around legendary fellow fans; launched a Facebook group, and helped a soldier in Iraq publicize his love for the show.
The show has also come a long way. When I started it had a cult following, and now it’s gone a lot more mainstream and gaining viewers every week. The world is starting to realize what we’ve known all along.
I want to thank you guys for all the comments and support for both the site and the show that you’ve shown over the past eight months. I hope you stick around, I’ve got more great stuff to come in the future.

Commenting: Was Broken, Now Fixed (Sorry)
Hi guys!
I want to apologize for the comments being broken last night. I had installed a new plugin and that didn’t bode well for any of the AJAX on the site. Everything should be back in working order now. Feel free to leave your comment on this week’s recap.
Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks to all the readers who emailed me about the issue, you guys are the best!
I’d like to make it up to you. Since you couldn’t comment yesterday, here are some nice pictures of Sarah Chalke who’ll be on the show next week.

Shameless Self Promotion
Hi everyone! 2007 was a big year for Have You Met Ted and I hope that 2008 is even bigger. You can help! If you enjoy the site and haven’t subscribed, you should do so in the sidebar—you can enter your email and have posts delivered daily (your info is safe, you won’t get spam) or you can subscribe using RSS.
You can also help out by submitting have-you-met-ted to sites like Technorati, Digg, and StumbleUpon. This will help give the site some visibility and when it’s marvelously famous you can sit back on your veteran reader status.
Thanks guys! I appreciate all the help.

Music Page Updated
I’ve been lazy about maintaining the music page. There was no info for season 3 at all. Until now. I headed over to the IMDB message board for How I Met Your Mother and sure enough super-fan Mike Jonas (who I’d love to get in contact with. Anyone know him?) had a list of the music so far in season 3. If there’s a song you’ve been dying to identify, go check out the music page and see if it’s there.
There are a few unidentified songs for these recent episodes still. If you know a song that’s missing from my list, please leave a comment and I’ll get the page updated.
Enjoy. Let’s hope we’ll get more episodes soon so I can keep updating this page.

Have You Met Ted? Blog Hits 10K Page Views!

I started this blog in September and there have already been 10,000 page views. That’s just organic traffic, the site hasn’t been on the front page of Digg or had any major endorsements or anything.
I can’t believe the success so far. I hoped for high page views when I started the site but I figured it’d take a long time, a year maybe, since the content was so specific. I’m not in the Technorati Top 100 or anything, but I think 10,000 views is something to be excited about.
The site averages about 150 visits a day, closer to 300 on Tuesdays. Episode recaps get between 4 and 12 comments. To get geekier, my bounce rate is good (around 50%) and the average time on the site is 3 minutes, which is impressive when you factor out all the people who hit a page and leave, which means that people that stay usually stay for at least 8 minutes.
The most popular posts to date are the discussion of Slapsgiving, the post to download the Slapsgiving song as an mp3, and the music page.
I want to thank all the readers who make this site so great. I am always amazed by the quality of the comments. I’ve been around the Internet and blogs for a long time and the level of participation here is astounding.
I don’t want to blow my own horn too much, but I was so excited by the fast growth of the site I felt moved to thank you all for the time you’ve spent here.
Moving forward, expect to see all kinds of Web 2.0 craziness like Facebook groups and MySpace content, all that community crap. I’ll probably add a Digg badge to posts as well so you all can help drive traffic to the site. Until then, keep telling your friends.
PS. The image above is a metaphor for the people who have rushed to this site. I don’t see my (entire) world in How I Met Your Mother screen shots…

Bachelor Party Discussion
Last night we saw a repeat of Bachelor Party from last season. I like this episode, although I prefer the B story (Robin’s inappropriate wedding shower present) to the A plot (Barney messing up Marshall’s bachelor party). That long description from Lily’s grandmother who thought Lily was about to open an antique sewing machine when in fact she was opening…something else was an inspired piece of writing.
Lastly, this episode was important because it showed us what made Lily finally come home. Barney flying out there with a ticket for her was a rare compassionate moment for him. He’s always shown a need for Marshall and Lily’s relationship to succeed (the ying to his bachelor yang it would seem) and it finally explained why Barney was so mean to Marshall during The Scorpion and the Toad.
Thoughts?
PS. Again, sorry for the limited posts. I’ve got a list of blog drafts a mile long and once I get situated you guys are in for some great content. Look forward to polls about returning guest stars, recaps from old episodes, legacy season vs. season talks, and maybe even a contest where we give away a DVD. Hang in there folks, it’s going to be a legendary new year.

I’m Moving

I got lucky with a repeat this week since I need to take a few days off from posting so I can move to NYC. That’s right, I’m heading to the same city our favorite friends live in. I’ll be packing, traveling, etc from Thursday to Sunday so I can start work Monday morning. Since I’ll be away, I’ve set up a few posts to go live each day until I get back. I might not be around to partake in the discussion, but I’ll try to stop by and see what’s up.
Once in NYC, I think I’ll try and pinpoint where the gang spends most of their time and see if I can identify any locations. Maybe Ranjit will be my cab driver!
See you all next week for the recap of “The Platinum Rule“.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Not only is today Thanksgiving but it’s also my birthday. That’s why right now I’m off somewhere deep in the woods of Connecticut with my family and this post is being published by robots.
This weeks’ showdown is going to be awesome. To make sure it’s as awesome as can be, I’m delaying till Friday or Saturday due to the double holiday. Check back tomorrow to weigh in on your favorites.
In the meantime, we can start voting.
Cheers, have a great Thanksgiving Slapsgiving.
