So this is a new idea. I got an email from a reader who is throwing a party for her sister who is a huge fan of the show. This reader is a fan, but isn’t as steeped in the lore of HIMYM as we all are. She was hoping for some tips—details she could include in the party that would make it legendary for a true fan of the show.

Off the top of my head I thought of making sure they had a lot of dip, maybe play some music by The 88, maybe play some Marshgammon (if you can figure out what it is.) I feel like there’s more, that the party could be pushed further. So I leave it up to all of you.

What could you do to create the best HIMYM themed party? Leave your tips in the comments.

Just recently I’ve gotten five or six people in my office to start watching HIMYM. They all love it—obviously—but they’re all surprised they like it so much. Shocked even. They can’t believe that such a good show could have gone unnoticed for so long. Even one guy who was a sworn hater of sitcoms came around after he saw the “Crazy/Hot Scale” YouTube clip.

It would seem then that it ’tis the season to share the HIMYM love. If you’re a new reader, a new fan, or know someone who will love the show now is the perfect time to pick up seasons 1-3 on DVD. Amazon is having a sale where you can get all three for $45. That’s a damn good deal. Pick these up and have everyone over for a viewing party, even if you don’t make t-shirts the way some readers do.

So we’re just hours away from the season 4 premiere of How I Met Your Mother and the excitement is palpable. What will happen? What did Stella say? What will Barney do? Who owns the yellow umbrella? What will Lily’s new hair style be? We’ll find out the answers to those questions and more tonight. After the show, check in here for my thougts, likes and dislikes, and join the discussion. In preparation for the premiere there’s been a lot of press surrounding the show lately. Earlier this month the cast auctioned off their jeans for charity and now CharityBuzz is working with CBS to give one lucky bidder the chance to win a walk-on role in an upcoming episode of How I Met Your Mother. Just in time for the season four premiere we’ll see Forgetting Sarah Marshall released on DVD. I got an early copy and I have to say that the special features are really impressive. I highly recommend checking out this DVD if you were a fan of the movie. There’s enough extra stuff there to fill up a weekend and who doesn’t want to spend a weekend with Jason Segel, Mila Kunis, and Kristen Bell?

What’s the point of having legendary HIMYM gear if no one sees you sporting it though? That’s why I created the How I Met Your Mother Fan Group on Flickr as a place for fans to show their support for the show. Upload pics of you and your friends wearing HIMYM gear, throwing HIMYM DVD parties, anything to show support.

Once we hit critical mass, I’ll do my best to make sure the people behind the show are made aware of the group so they see how much we all appreciate what they do and how much we love the show.

Need ideas? Try these:

• Come up with new and unique “fives”. Barney invented the “phone five” and “freeze frame five”, what else can we think up? Take a picture or video of your best “five” and post it to the group.
• Take a picture of you wearing HIMYM gear. If you don’t want to buy something, make your own!
• Recreate your favorite scene. Get some friends together and recreate a scene from the show. Upload the video and post it to the group.
• Suit up! Throw on an “outlaw” shirt, a striped polo, some leather boots—any of the cast’s trademark gear.
• Throw a HIMYM party. Have a few friends that aren’t into the show? Have them over for a DVD party where you watch a few episodes. Document the evening and share it with the group.
