"How I Met Your Mother" has all the makings of a generational hit show. It has a well balanced cast of characters sure to appeal to a wide range of viewers and an interesting mix of plot lines to keep the audience intrigued. The general premise of the show, a love story in reverse, is a truly novel and interesting take on the stereotypical network sitcom. Ted's journey to find the love of his life and get married has an interesting type of suspense, we already know he is married and has children 25 years in the future, so we have to wonder, with each new girl he meets, is she the one, much as Ted is doing himself. The added dimension of Robin being dangled in front of both Ted and the audience leads us through a series of cleverly crafted ups and downs with their relationship, always wanting them to end up together, much as we all wanted Ross and Rachel to end up together in the 90's, but knowing they can not if Robin is the children's "Aunt Robin".

Much as we all enjoyed following the life and times of everyone's favorite "Friends" through the 90's, and before them, going somewhere everybody knows your name with "Cheers", the characters of "How I Met Your Mother" will draw you in and leaving you craving more every time. The true brilliance of the concept is that the story is perfect to run either as long or as short as the ratings will allow, we have no idea when Ted actually met his wife, and the kids are early to mid teens 25 years in the future, giving the show the possibility of running 2 years or 10, it all depends on how long we enjoy the show and keep it alive.

Finally, a truly biased note here. In this day and age of more, faster, better, it is a wonderful feeling to find a show that is devoted to such a bohemian concept as true love. I personally revel in following the ups and downs of Ted's heart fluctuations and can very well relate. Its nice to find a show that can be this great combination of funny, romantic and serious all without missing a beat. I recommend a good healthy dose of "How I Met Your Mother" for anyone with a broken heart, a healing heart, a completed heart, or pretty much anyone with any type of heart (which is pretty much everyone but Barney), trust me, it will do you a world of good.

I must say that I was a little disappointed. Its getting to the point where I'm worrying that it will begin to get a little stale like scrubs or all the other sitcoms that stayed on way too long. I love the show, it reminds me of myself and so I want it to end like the, well, other greatest sitcom ever Seinfeld which ended early before it could go stale. I did expect a little more from the end of the season with all the drama leading up to it and feel as though they could've gone in a better direction. Anyway, as a person much like Ted, I also feel the story of him getting together with his wife will definitely not be, or at least hopefully, not just an end of an episode but will likely have a fairly good story arch. Remember, earlier in the 5th season we got to hear the 2nd greatest love story! So its gotta top that one.

interesting theory, but it is very specific about Ted- where he goes, what he did, its all from his point of view. Also, the narrator is the one living in the house Ted bought. I am with you that they won't just show a woman and say "that is your mother" at the end though, there has to be some twist/ surprise ending.

I have this theory. Now, I enjoy HIMYM & think that the writers are very smart. That being said, I don't think they will just give us some brown haired lady w/a yellow umbrella at the end of the show and be all 'this is how I met your mother'. No , nonono. I think ( & this is my theory) that the narrator at the end of the show will be Barney. & in being Barney he would have chosen to tell how he met his wife by explaining it through Ted's crazy love life. (?) I mean, he (Barney) did think the Karate Kid was a story about how the bully lost the karate match to some inexperienced kid. ((remember that??))

This is my theory, discuss. =)

A lot of people who watch Chuck forget that they are watching a action/comedy. The people who think that its supposed to be solely comedy will be disappointed because they think they're supposed to be laughing the whole time. These people aren't the fans....

People who get offended by its portrayal of its action/sci-fi side are offended because it doesn't thrill them like most shows like Dexter or Supernatural do. Its not supposed to do that either. These people aren't the fans....

People who are able to see the key factor of this show.... the simple care-free enjoyment that puts a smile on your face when they watch chuck. Who can see behind the unrealistic plot and cliché characters to the amazing morals and ethics that only this type of show can have. People who can just sit back and indulge in the charming epicness of Chuck. These people ARE the fans!

And i am one of them.

If you are a rationalist, don't watch......ever.

cuco on "Friends: One of the better American sit-coms"

I have nothing against sit-coms in general, as long as they are funny. In America, there is Frasier and Will & Grace, in Britain, there is Only Fools and Horses and Last of the Summer Wine, they are great sit-coms. There was a time when I didn't like Friends very much, then again it was also at a time when I wasn't into sit-coms. My brother and sister, who absolutely adore the show suggested I should try the show again, so I did. Well, my initial reaction of the show was wrong, this show is great, it is funny and smart with appealing characters. It is by far one of the better American sit-coms and I do think it is better than Everybody Loves Raymond.

First and foremost, I love the theme song. It may get on some people's nerves, but I find it irresistibly catchy, memorable and fun, with a simple melody and nice lyrics that are relevant.

I also love how funny and smart Friends is. Some of the episode titles alone are hilarious and clever. That reminds me when I see and review When Harry Met Sally, maybe the title of the review should be "The One With the Scene in the Diner". Along with this the writing is consistently funny, with some wit and intelligence and very rarely becomes clichéd and cringe worthy. I even like the plot lines, I don't find them boring, predictable perhaps occasionally but the funny situations that the characters get into make them absorbing and worthwhile.

The direction is also really solid, and the photography and scenery are striking.

I love the characters, they are unique and engaging, even with their flaws they manage to be likable. Rachel does have moments when she is spoilt, but she is also the epitome of sweetness. I know there are people who have problems with Jennifer Aniston, the thing is I don't and I find her at her prettiest and most appealing here. Monica is another strong character, not the funniest by all means, but because she is almost like a maternal figure to the other characters with her caring and sympathetic attitude. I loved how Courtney Cox portrayed her. Phoebe is my favourite female character, she is hilarious; I especially love her songs, they are the sort of songs that are so bad they are great. Lisa Kudrow couldn't have been the more perfect choice for her, she pulls off Phoebe's personality to perfection.

Joey is stupid admittedly, but I love him anyway because he is also cool. I am not a huge fan of Matt LeBlanc, but he is really good as Joey. Matthew Perry is great as Chandler, who is like a clownish and sarcastic sort of character, who makes jokes that are almost as bad as Phoebe's songs, but he is still a likable character in his own right. Ross is deliciously neurotic, I constantly love his priceless facial expressions and David Schwimmer's delivery is absolutely perfect.

There have also been some wonderful guest stars, Elliot Gould as Jack Geller, Gary Oldman(who I really like in films like Dracula and Immortal Beloved) as Richard Crosby, Michael McKean and Danny DeVito as a stripper who arrives at a party in a policeman's outfit, all but to name a few. Overall, I love this show, not only for the writing but for the characters. 10/10 Bethany Cox

That sounds like a weird analogy now, but just wait a second. Both titles are about selfish, immature guys whose lives are affected (if not always changed, per se) by the arrival of a young child. In "About a Boy," this is the geeky young Marcus. In this show, it's Jake, a slothful but impressionable child of recent divorce whose presence in the life of his uncle Charlie (Charlie Sheen) seems to be having no effect, but clearly is. Jake's parenthood nightmare is a neurotic pushover of a dad and an uptight (to say the least) mother who has attached the vacuum cleaner quite firmly to her ex-husband's wallet. This is one of few shows on TV that brings me to genuine uncontrollable bouts of laughter every time I see an unfamiliar episode. This is due to my three favorite characters: Evelyn, Charlie and dad Alan's mother-the-monster played hilariously by Holland Taylor; Rose, Charlie's out-of-bounds-at-all-times stalker, who steals show after show with her constant and palpable presence in the shadows of Charlie's mind-- and house; and Berta, the hilarious housekeeper who takes raises from boss Charlie's wallet and refers to him as "Drunkenstein." Golly Moses, this show's a muffin!

When "How I Met Your Mother" first appeared on the small screen, I refused to watch it. But then I watched an episode (I think it was Episode 5 when they went to a club) and a thought it was pretty funny. I must admit that the new show isn't laugh-out-loud, slap-your-knee HILARIOUS...but it has potential to be great! Every character in the CBS show (5 in total) are likable but I must give extra kudos to the characters played by Alyson Hannigan (Lily), and Neil Patrick Harris (Barney). I may be biased towards my liking of Alyson Hannigan's Lily (due to her previous comedic roles: American Pie Series, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) but she brings a charm and charismatic flair to the show. Also Neil Patrick Harris' Barney is GREAT!!! He basically plays a creep which I'm sure everyone is familiar with (because I know I sure am!). I find Barney hilarious!!! He IS that creepy guy at the club but that's what makes him lovable.

All in all this show has potential! As long as the stories, acting and writing keep up then I am definitely going to tune in! I think once people start getting to know the characters better, they'll start tuning in as well. Everyone always compares this show to "Friends" which didn't really get popular until after the first season. Hopefully, this show will continue to be funny and exceed our expectations. But WATCH IT!

Haha, I love the mediocracy of the Estonians. They are so self centered, that they understand absolutely no humor at all. The fact that estonia was even mentioned in the series should become a national event.

Regarding the accent that MartinGore claim not to have. For your information 35% of people in Estonia do have the Russian accent. But once again, these idiosyncratic features of his homeland were not noticed by him.

Thank you my Polish friend for actually having a sense of humor :-)

Regards and all the best to the Glorious Nation of Estonia...

3 - I can't because she is not

Yeah totally, it started of great and it kind went downhill after 5x07; that epp was totaly lame, the cast was totaly out of character. Nevertheless "The Perfect Week", "Robots vs Wrestlers" and "Say cheese" are still awesome.

I think that's the joke, it's not supposed to be an accurate portrayal. That's why it's Barney, and why it's funny. Remember, his schemes are aimed at bimbos! 'Estonian Barney' isn't supposed to be believable. It's supposed to be funny, and a lot of that humor is in the fact that his portrayal of an Estonian is completely factually incorrect and yet he still makes it work.

I know Estonians don't have Russian accents etc. (I'm Polish originally) so when he used the Russian accent I found it even funnier that it was completely wrong but he still pulled it off :)
It was just funny and ridiculous.
